making a mini Battle Axe from a 10lb Weight Plate

This project has been on my list to do for a year or two. Finally got around to making it. It was fun to build, and I definitely learned a thing or two. :)

A couple years back I saw someone make a large battle axe from a 45lb barbell plate, and it has been something I've wanted to try to create since. I had this ten pound exercise plate siting around and decided to make a mini version. It took a lot of grinding and cutting with the grinder to get the plate to look like a blade. I used a piece of round solid stock off of an old dry cleaner machine for the shaft. I used a block of wood that was lying around (not sure what kind of wood it is, maybe oak?) and used epoxy and a pin to attach it. I used two plates and some bolts to attach the weight plate on because if I had welded it, the weld probably wouldn't have held (if I was smashing stuff with it) because it's cast iron.
I've been wanting to experiment with pewter more after trying it on that knife. So, I thought it would be cool to put a cool design in the handle of this fearsome weapon. With a cast ladle, oxy acetylene torch, some blue tape, and many fails I finally got it to work. I now, definitely, have a better understanding of working with pewter.
