This was such an amazing time. Growing up in Hungary we had nothing like Alien, or horror figures at all, and I wanted nothing more than to own something from my beloved franchises. Then Mcfarlane toys did Movie Maniacs. I couldn’t believe it. And the way they looked… it was AMAZING!!! Whatever little money I had went towards these figures, and I loved them so much. I wish there were figures and toys like these today. Of course Neca does some amazing stuff a d there are other companies. But Mcfarlane toys was always breaking new grounds, producing everything from Movie Maniacs through Tortured Souls, and Monsters! Absolutely fantastic and a truly inspiring time.
My first glimpse at the arrival of these gems was in a Toymart Preview magazine which had full page advertisements dedicated to Michael, Jason and Freddy while also pushing their Sleepy Hollow line (i still own the Headless Horseman figure. A design thats due for a Neca upgrade) but the moment I finally saw them in person was walking into a Spencer's novelties store and locking in on the Michael Myers figure which my mother begrudgingly purchased for me. These were the game changers for sure. Thanks for the trip down memory lane sir.
Such a great video and wonderful look back as a horror film figure collector ive been doing it even before McFarlane but i gotta say they changed everything and yes mom and dad even then always got me a figure especially mom rest in peace dear but was so nice to get a look back and thank you for such a great time viewing they sure where less money then hot toys thanks ago cheers
Love these, started collecting them again about 10 years ago, huge fan of his older stuff, got a hold of a jaws deluxe box set a few years ago, the pride of my collection
Can't really express my true feelings and gratitude for this video -- McFarlane's MM having played a significant role in my own childhood as well. So overwhelmingly glad that it occurred to someone to pay tribute to this. THANK YOU. My first figure was - even though it wasn't produced under the MM line - the single carded version of the Headless Horseman... then probably Freddy Krueger, and so on... What I always wanted though, but never got it, was Eric Draven. Great memories. Cheers!
There actually is a pennywise the clown movie maniac available for preorder. I have purchased mine as I see it as a nice throwback to the older figures. Hopefully they keep it up and give us less wizard of ozz
Yep, my horror figure addiction began with Movie Maniacs. I was in a Suncoast Motion Pictures store and saw series 1, when they were first released, hanging on the rack. I had never heard of them or seen them before, but I just thought Leatherface looked awesome, so I bought it. I had no idea that it'd lead to my collecting horror figures and growing a collection that now consists of 382+ figures and continues to grow.
I've still got the Special Edition of the Fish tank Freddy and Jason action figure set and still hasn't opened they are still my favourite action figures of all time
definitely undeniable video man...started collecting McFarlane Toys Movie Maniacs in 1998 and said that just Jason and Freddy and Leatherface but I didn't keep to that...at all...yes now NECA alongside other companies provide horror fixes and now McFarlane Toys are offering "Movie Maniacs" again but not the same as before but it's a shame... thanks for this video man...and I still have the Jaws Movie Maniacs 4 set...no other company has done that again...only $30 US, new back then...memories of day's gone by man...great video man... the new figures called Scream Greats by Trick or Treat is like old Movie Maniacs...
Was hoping you were gonna talk about some of the other deluxe sets like the evolution of evil night he came home sets or the Friday 13th part 2 deluxe set

Todd's still putting toy stuff up on his instagram. Love this stuff. Don't have any McFarlane toys, but I would love to start a collection
NECA has most of the horror licenses now, super great, articulated figures. Loving Todds DC line though
