Make a Poster by Printing a Large Image on Multiple Pages | Draw it Too Vlog

- Ever wanted to turn one of your photos into a large poster that you can hang on your wall?
In this video I show you how, and all you need is your high-resolution image, Microsoft Excel, paper, scissors, glue, and of course a printer.
Here is the basic method:
1) Open MS Excel and insert your high-resolution image.
2) Change the view mode to "Page View" then stretch your image to the desired size. You'll be able to see how much paper you will use up if you zoom out.
3) Print it!
4) Cut the excess flaps (the white borders), but not all of them -- you'll want to use some of those flaps for gluing.
5) Glue each page one sheet at a time.
And ta-da! That's all there is to it!
Of course I go into a lot more detail in the video. Though I do want to mention that you MUST use a large, high-resolution image to keep the poster nice and sharp. Enlarging a small, low-resolution photo will result in a blurry, pixellated poster.

If you have the updated version of Excel, this still works BUT you've gotta go to the tab "View" and then click "Page Layout" to get to the view he shows in this video.
(I thought it would be under the TAB "Page Layout" and spent a lot of time not finding the view he shows in this video. lol) Good luck!

hey, i just wanted to print a periodic table for our final exam that the school supplied as a word doc. it was really tiny, so i thought i'd just double the size. which turned out to be weirdly hard. so i found this, then saved the word doc as a pdf. dropped the pdf in excel, like you suggested. i'm on an apple so i had to do it a bit differently, but yay. tiny periodic table details are visible. now for the final.

I think you should also mention about the proper paper size, "letter" and A4 is pretty close, picking the perfect paper should minimize paper waste.
I don't want do cutting how do you do this without any margins???!!
You can do that in page setup in printer settings but if you do that there will be no paper edge to glue the next piece down on.
Great video. One of the best I have watched in a long time. I would have never thought Excel could do this. I made a large USA outline last week on Word. What a hassle it was.

Tried in ADOBE, MSPaint, online banner, all meeehh.. now Excel, MUCH better thx! But my problem is; I need my image to finish at 5" x 48". My image can be stretched, as it won't distort much, so where can I tell Excel those measurements? Or can't I? Thanks so much!
I have only layout no page layout . what should I do?
i have Office 2007 but Excell in that version i do not find the page set up that you show in your presentation. are you using a later version and is it different from mine. i am a novice in excell so i am probably overlooking something. i am very anxious to use your method so any clarification will be welcome
armand gutierrez it's the page layout screen... just click on middle button at the bottom next to the percentage and zoom buttons, that will show you multiple pages at one time

seems to be missing something in a step. Exel gives me options to Place Over Cell or Place in Cell. Either way, It does not do what you are showing spread over the page with the gridlines showing. Looks like an old version of exel and many of the options and tbs you are showing and what you are navigating to are no longer available on office 365 exel

It might only be 3% or something, but you didnt have to speed up the video bro. Its an amazingly useful tutorial, the "enhancements" just take away from the content. The 22 seconds you saved were not a good trade off.

When you go in to adjust the margins, I find it helpful to set all margins at 0. Then OK. Then it will adjust margins to the narrowest your printer can handle. :Hope this helps. : )

Wonderful help! I wanted to blow up a word phrase in Word. I saved the Word file to a pdf file, then used the select tool to highlight and copy the phrase, and then I could paste it into Excel.
