Larry was truly a special player. I'm from Dallas so sometimes I hear people want to compare Luka to Larry and even though Luka is incredible, he's not on Larry's level, in fact, only a few players in history are on Larry's level. Bird was so good with passing, and so good with shooting, and so good at free throws, and so good in the clutch, and so good with mind games, a complete player. Think of this, with all the influx of great Euro white talent, to this day, Larry Bird is considered better than all of them.
I love this video Matt. There’s things he does that are just amazing to see. What can you say, he’s amazing. When they say he’s slow, can’t jump. So when you see Lebron jump up and slam dump it. To me it’s 2 points. No different then when Bird dunks. He can’t Jump? He’s a career double digit rebounder. His IQ is superior to anyone who ever played. More than Jordan, Lebron or anyone else.He does so much more and that’s why he’s Larry Legend.
I dont mind the rewinds, because of how you do it - you make sure to go back and pick up the video without losing any footage - its when some butcher the game to pieces by missing great plays because theyre losing footage in sloppy rewinding - the way you do it is good and doesnt ruin the continuity of the video or lose plays and shots -- anyone else listening for some pointers here-???
At 16:25, where Larry bounced the ball off the backboard, then made it on the second attempt... When the announcer said excitedly "he passed it off the backboard to himself," a long time ago when I first heard/seen that, when I was first learning about Bird, I thought "Yeah right, he just missed and followed it up." But now after learning more about him, and watching that play more closely, I tend to believe that may have been what he actually did. With the way he moved, and with how he was on it again IMMEDIATELY, it makes me think it was actually probably planned that way. Larry did actually think that fast. I think it's a very real possibility that mid-maneuver, he realized his position and lost confidence with his original intended shot, and mid-air decided to pass it off the backboard to himself as a way to recover. Obviously I don't know for sure, but... That type of a thing definitely ISSSS Larry Bird.
You and many other misinterpret that layup attempt - what many dont realize is sometimes when he was heavily contested Larry would pass the ball off the back board to himself and wait for the guards to drop down then he would catch it off the backboard and make the shot, he did this more than a few times and he also did this with the late great Dennis Johnson, DJ would throw it at the backboard not even trying to score then Larry would catch it off the back board and this allowed him to often times make the shot uncontested. THAT is basketball IQ - theres a video talking about how Larry and DJ created this play and use it in certain plays
I’d want to see a team with(keep in mind this is not necessarily the best at every position just a team I’d love to see) Stockton/Jordan/Bird/Duncan/Chamberlain. It would lay waste to anyone.
