  • Producer and Mixing Engineer Mark "Spike” Stent, who received an honorary doctorate from the University of West London in 2019, gives a guest lecture on his mixing techniques.
Interviewed by Professor Simon Zagorski-Thomas, Mark Stent explores subjects from compression to reverb and how timing is important in mixing using a track produced by MA Record Production student, Andrea Succi, as an example.

It's one thing to have technical problems with the mics, but... how do you invite a guy like that and don't have questions prepared?

That's promising, I find most upcoming producers work their way "forward in time" to catch up with today. It's pretty logical really. You have to be an excellent producer to only have like 6 months practice so to say, to sound like today. Usually, intermediate producers are a few years behind in sound, until they get sharp enough to be able to sound "today" if they want to.

No if he's working on 32Bit and After he mixes, the track gets mastered too so that's is going to be always sorted.
