Apologies for saying that the input system like Rewired does not exist by default, since I totally forgot that the new Unity Input System is a thing xd, and I don't remember the last time I used it. Anyway, for the project in 2018 unity version, Rewired is still the best option in my opinion.
dude 4.5 folking years on a useless "game" that no one will ever play, Stardew Valley same 4.5 years solo developed game, make a millionare from a guy, that's why making right choises is so important
@@walkingwave2746 Useless comment. You act like he spent 4.5 five years only working on Ascendum when he was also at university, working, and making other games. I'm sure he also learned a ton from making this game. Also, you should not measure success from making a million dollars, people make things for all sorts of reasons and I commend anyone who takes the time to create something with their own hands.
Congrats! I have loved all of your devlogs and greatly admire your immense talent. I've learned a lot from your videos and plan to buy your game as a heartfelt thank you!
you are such an underated dev log. i always see these people getting so many views on devlog but u deserve so much more. i played ruin of albion, and although for its simplicity it gave me such a rush. and mendacium devlogs are always so good. pls dont give up and please keep uploading. Thank you for ur effort good.
HEY im so glad you found time to post!! your games are amazing! VIRIUM is my absolute favorite!! i am a game dev too and that game has inspired me ALOT keep it up man!!!
This game is really awesome! It looks very polished and has a lot of content. Taking into account that this is solo dev project made by yesterday's student, it is really fantastic job. Thanks for sharing your experience with us. Thrilled to see what is coming next!
Man, your work is heroic, and a great inspiration, by sharing the struggle, the non linearity of a real creative process.. and that you fkn did it man!! while also doing sevral other projects and working, and life...
Congratulations! I totally understand the difficulty in getting youtube content out while working full time and doing work on the game, it really becomes a drag. Ive found that including it into part if my gamedev time helps. Ive started trying to record key moments of when i begin and finish aspects if the game and then slowly write a script to narrate whats going on and just put it all together as i go. This lowers the work load and helps consistency. I hope you find what works for you!
Yup, understandable. That's why I only work on one project, bought a house 8 months ago and improving/maintaining is like a whole thing as well on top of my 45 hour a week job. The important thing is just moving forward, even if it takes longer than expected.
hey this game is so good !!! its really so freaking good. please dont ever stop with this game. i know it was a project but please we need this game. yoour really very tallented and your metroidvanias are one of the best. i mean like close to team cherry. i know you used some from them but you did it just as well as they did. so im just saying you have what it takes to make at least as much as t.c. is going to.... im sooo very serious!!!!
Glad you're finally completed this project. Don't forget to take at lest a week of time right on release to fix bugs, which are, undoubtably, will pop up, even if you think otherwise.
I understand the 40 hour work week problem all too well. Time for dev-ing is almost non-existent, but for you to come this far with all of that progress, it's really inspiring. Please continue doing what you do, man.
Congrats for finally releasing. Did you make your game with an orthographic camera and a parallax effect or with a perspective camera? Which method would you recommend to use for this kind of game? Thanks!
For this game i did it with the orthographic camera because the project is quite old and back when i started working on it i didnt know that I can use perspective camera xd. For all other 2d projects now im using a perspective camera, so i would recommend that.
Just a small correction from the Rewired part and Unity not having by default: since the 2019 version Unity now has a new Input System that works like Rewired, you define the actions with bindings and use the actions in the code
Yes, sorry my bad, i forgot that the new input system existed xd, because I dont remember the last time i used it. And also i remember struggling with making it work how i wanted, but maybe it got better with time.
I dont really know how to draw a complete background layer from scratch, so what i do is i first draw a bunch of environment assets, being different stones, rocks, grass, bushes, clouds, and so on. Then i use them inside the game engine to make backgrounds by arranging them in different ways. In case of Ascendum, i went a bit overboard with the amount of assets I was using for every background layer, so when i was happy with how levels looked like, i went into Photoshop and recreated each layer, but now in a single image to improve performance. You can probably rearrange assets directly in Photoshop as well, but for me its easier to see it immediately inside the game. Probably not the best and most efficient way, but thats how I am doing it. Hope that helps :)
Because the project is in unity version 2018. Also i worked a bit with the new input system in the past and I didnt manage to make it work how i wanted. Rewired supports more than 160 controller types and its mega easy to use, and considering the unity version that i have, i just went with it.
Sadly, I dont think I can make an actual online multiplayer, but luckily there is a RemotePlayTogehter option on Steam that allows Online play for these types of games. Not ideal, but hope that works for you.
@@TheCaecus1 thanks youre a fking legend this game is awsome and youre the one who gived me accual motivation to start making games soo im very very happy to play your biggest project :D

What a cool dev log! Thanks for your story. Good luck with your final release!!
When you said negative progress. I feel you after entering quite a few jams. Sometimes people make it worse than better!
This game is awesome, can u make a video of ur university journey??
Congrats for the incredible journey! It is so inspiring to see an incredible game being made while having a full time job. Looking forward to play it!
Good luck on the release
I bought Ascendum today! Beautiful game, and the puzzles are quite fun so far! Only played an hour at this point but looking forward to finishing it
Happy to hear that :)

If I were you, I would release Uirium on Steam, and then explore all of the creative ideas in a sequel.
May i ask about the game engine you used?
Btw this game looks fantastic!
Thanks, I used 2018 version of Unity xd
Will you be uploading the Ascendum OST to TH-cam?
congrats
i want to learn how to create 2d backgrounds for games, im an illustrator but dont know where to start any tips?

Did you work 4 years full time or 1/3 time because of all your other projects and how did you found income in the meantime ?
bro i cant wait for ascendum also curiosity what will the price be
Im still finalizing that, but it will not be more than 15 Euros for sure. And there will be constant discounts including the launch discount.
It would be interesting if all 3 of the games were connected together
Why do you use Rewired over Unity's new input system?
Because the project is in unity version 2018. Also i worked a bit with the new input system in the past and I didnt manage to make it work how i wanted. Rewired supports more than 160 controller types and its mega easy to use, and considering the unity version that i have, i just went with it.
Wow
This is an epic game❤🥰😍👍🏻
game looks dope but you may want to edit the description on steam cuz its lowkey a run on sentence
