Kevin Delaney , That's what I was thinking too. He only exchanged the coins for their original monetary value as currency. But, some of those pennies might be incredibly rare. I heard that 1943 pennies are worth $200K. He could have made bank if he had a handful of those.
Dude, someone needs to forcibly take this guys thesaurus away. Dude, someone needs to forcibly take this guys thesaurus away. Dude, someone needs to forcibly take this guys thesaurus away. oh yeah, and the repetition
The jar at 1:30 is clearly quarters not pennies.. also the comment "that's like a 1000 times better than finding a dollar"? No. It's like 5000 times better lol
smokedoubt sorry that I hurt your feeling, your attention span must be short because you couldn't tell that the story was repeated. I guess once wasn't good enough, hahahaha
At least deposit it periodically into an account with compound interest. Over time, it can really add up. If this person in the video had put all of that into an account over that 40 years , it would be much more than $5k.
Let me give a quick example from a savings calculator. Start with $1 and save $5 /mo for 40 years with an average interest rate of 6.50 %. That comes out to $11,431.46 Much more than his $5136.14
Big T. Larrity. Dave Dogge is correct even though it was a slow build. Assuming he saved at a steady pace, he saved $9.26 per month. With an average fed interest rate of approx 5.3% since 1972, starting with $9.26, adding $9.26 per month, for 45 years, with monthly compounding interest he’d have over $20,742. But not exactly... Now, the highest interest rates were in his early stages of savings 1972-1990’s, so we’d need to factor that. I calculate he’d have approx $16,705 using the average yearly interest rates for each year from ‘72-‘17. Saving pennies is stupid!
Man would I like to go through those pennies! I am almost certain there would be a penny worth at least $100 dollars in that many pennies. You could find a 1909 s VDB worth 200-1500 dollars, 1943 copper wheat penny worth upwards of $100k, 1944 steal penny worth 30-50k, 1914 d penny worth upwards of $1000, 1931 s penny worth upwards of $500, 1992 close AM worth up to $500. The list goes on and on. Man would it be cool to look through all that!
1914d is only worth about 300, 31s is only worth about 150, svdb are worth about 650-2000+, but yea pennies can def be expensive..a 1922 no d is worth up to 20k
Dwane Hubbard only 300...? That's a lot for just a penny, lol that said, I was thinking it would take a looong time to go through all those coins but finding some worth anything over its face value can compensate you for your time pretty good, you just need the patience and some good reference material... oh, also someone that's gonna pay for them as well!
Dude I've been saving all my change just for the past year & I already got a 5 Gallon jug half full that's why you never throw your change away it does add up after time
Adam Hoekstra Exactly Even 82 and before is worth melting down if not just for the copper content Or to coat cast bullets But I'm not condoning that because it's against the law Seriously had to be a bunch of collectibles in that lot
They stopped making ing wheaties ~1960, 45 years ago was 1972, so he might have quite a few, but not an outstanding amount. Somebody said he might have indian heads, which stopped production in 1908 i think
Imagine if each penny would have been a quarter. $128,403.50 that's the kind of money would collecting over a lifetime. *note to self: do not collect pennies*
collect quarters and regular change. when you piggy bank fills up with change, cash it in for more quarters. do the same thing he did in probably 20 years.
@@DavidLinn I just collect everything that I get as they are and fill five gallon buckets and sort them. In the future I think dollar bills will be called in for the new currency and the coins will be revalued. Just a theory. One thing I know for sure is the base metals the coins are made out of will be worth multiples of face value as costs to produce them will go up. Of course my main investments are in gold and silver. Circulating coinage collecting is only a part of what I do.
Bye bye! Another person with the attention span of a peanut! Bet you wish you saved your pennies now? Then you'd get the attention that you're seeking! Just saying.....
It has nothing to do with attention span. It has to do with the fact that these videos are routinely 90% filler with very little content. Nor was my comment directed at you or any other viewer, but at the makers of the video in the hopes that it will help convince them improve their channel. But hey, at least it gave you a chance to attempt a witty comment on TH-cam. So there's that.
A man saved all of his pennies for 45 years. Took them to the bank, got $5,136 and 14 cents. I just saved you three minutes and thirty seconds. Merry ramachanukwanzyulemas, and happy new year.
Thank you for your nice story! I was thinking they would have told him to look at the pennies from 45 years ago as he could have some very old pennies that are very valuable to collectors with possibly far more than $5,000 worth.
I meab it's totally worth it i just started getting into it and ive found a few of my change worth 4-30$ its not much but imagine him that had gallons of pennies for sure one of them was worth more 100k
He should have checked the pennies (actually the proper name is CENTS) for pre 1982 coins as the copper in them is worth 2.5 cents each. It may be illegal to melt them down but whose going to know? : O)
I totally agree I’m certain that statistically there must’ve been a high-value Penny in they’re worth more than the measly five grand he got for saving all those pennies for 45 years he should’ve looked at them as he was collecting them
I actually had a penny from 1853. It was an off strike. If I still had it, it'd be worth way more than the $5 I paid for it...Error coins are worth quite a bit. The dang thing was larger and thicker than a quarter....
Bummer. I had a cousin who showed me a Nickle with a dime strike interior.... This was back in 1979 or so. I always wonder what he did with it.... So sad how our currency (Coins) and nothing compared to the beauty and class of those past years. St Gaudens $20 dollar Gold pieces, the $10 ones the $5 and then the Morgan Dollars. Such beauty will we never see again.... I remember having a mercury dime and how just incredible the back of it was and having Mercury on the front.... OH I am so sad for those days.....
Should have first let a coin collector an official coin dealer go through those coins. You'd be surprised how much the real value is. So they're sent through the bank and the bank sends them on to the government, and the United States government now has coin readers that filter out all the silver and all the old valuable coins to keep. Most of those coins were probably worth 3 for $0.05 each per penny. The guy would had probably had 30 to $40,000 and old coin sitting in there.
When I was a child my dad handed me his two-gallon jug worth of coins and told me, "if you count and roll them, I'll let you keep it" -- a few hours later I was $236 richer and had my very own bank account to put it in.
He would have made more if he sorted out the wheat pennies. Generally, coin dealers pay 3 cents for wheat pennies. Who knows how many rares ones could have been in there over that amount of time. That 5K could have easily been worth 7500+
Around 1960 kids in our neighborhood decided a way to get back at our mean school cafeteria cashier would be to take in 25 pennies to pay for our lunch instead of a quarter. Each kid called several friends and told them to call other friends. On the appointed day pennies began to arrive with the 4th graders, continued with 5th graders, and by time the 6th graders went to lunch the principal was standing behind the cashier taking names of all those paying with pennies. Apparently the stunt upset their normal routine and nobody wanted to spend hours rolling up pennies. Next year the cashier had been transferred to a Jr. High across town.
wanda Shivers he should've added some quarters dimes nickels in there. also imagine if he would have put aside $20 or $40 every check how much you will have.
Some have wondered if they separated out the wheat pennies as more valuable, but except for a few dates, wheat pennies in circulated condition are worth only 1¢. There are more of them out there than there are people collecting them, so they are worth only face value. But it is still fun to find one in your change!
You can get more in 30 days if you put in one penny today, 2 tomorrow, 4 the day after, 8 after that, and so on for 30 days! Should be around 5.4 million dollars at the end of the month!
Me trying to make my essay longer

Nancy Arellano what's up wit it sexy
He could have stored it in a bank and earned $10,000 in compound interest over the space of 40 years .. DOH !!
Dave Dogge Well he didn't start with the entire sum of pennies, it was a slow build.
Big T. Larrity. Dave Dogge is correct even though it was a slow build. Assuming he saved at a steady pace, he saved $9.26 per month. Banks give the shittiest return possible. He should have been putting it into an investment fund once a year instead.
Dave Dogge nah not at all the bank is not giving that much intrest
He could saved all the silver Dollars, half dollars and coins he could find. Then it would be worth up to 50k
I have been saving pennies since this video started, got roughly 76 grand
Need a Dispenser here!! Liar
ChanJP's NewTube no shit
Need a Dispenser here!! That has got to be one of the funniest comments that I have ever read on TH-cam

Jae KiDd
I would search through it for key dates and such if I were you.
Probably had several rare pennies that were worth quite a bit but guess he'll never know
Brandon Evans not to mention all the pennirs with actual copper in them, poor guy jipped himself anywhere from another 5000 or even 100,000.
I think it would've been more worth it if he sold the pennies seperately, think about it. The pennies could be so old that they would be valued more.
Am I the only one that just wasted 3 minutes of my life trying to find out how much money he got in total
Alyshba Jamil 😂
Alyshba Jamil Wowww
You fine as hell 😍
No you aren't this video is extremly badly made...
Alyshba Jamil yea, this is like me in my essays
Must've been quite the word stretcher in college.

Robert mathews
Thanks
Mic Spam God right I thought it was gonna be like 15 or 20 thousand
Robert mathews :O
i would love to see you get 513,600 pennies.
He lost money holding onto the currency as it became worth less, better off cashing it in more often and investing it.
ArcadeJackpotPro coins gain value over time. He Lost money because I'm sure he had some rare pennies but never tried looking for them.
@@teamracecar i said the same on another video lol

I hope he pulled out the wheaties
Probably had some worth more then a cent

Exactly
Even 82 and before is worth melting down if not just for the copper content

Gonna summarize the video for you guys, mans saves pennies for 45 years and when he finally cashes them in he is left with $5146
It's not a penny, it's a 1 cent! They don't use penny's,pence and pounds in America. They use dollars and CENTS
Ben Piercy this is so incorrect
“Penny” is the nick name of 1 cent of dollar here in USA
Ben Piercy it the name of the coin
Well, you clearly do not live in nor are from America...
H P, I was replying to Ben.
My teacher: you need 6 more pages
Me: (does as shown in video)
I keep trying to tell my friends to save their pennies but they won’t do it
Just imagine how many silver dimes and quarters were in there and he didn't know......
After he cashed in, the bank teller asked how would you like your money back, he said in pennies please.
Kay, I'm watching this when we don't even use pennies in Canada anymore.
One of those pennies could've been rare and worth way more than the face value of all. I would've looked at each and every single one.
Some have wondered if they separated out the wheat pennies as more valuable, but except for a few dates, wheat pennies in circulated condition are worth only 1¢. There are more of them out there than there are people collecting them, so they are worth only face value. But it is still fun to find one in your change!
I said imma collect pennies for 6 months. 1 week later, i go to tesco and cash it all in.
You can get more in 30 days if you put in one penny today, 2 tomorrow, 4 the day after, 8 after that, and so on for 30 days! Should be around 5.4 million dollars at the end of the month!
Wow $5000 in 45 years so basically 3 weeks of work seems like a waste of time...
$5,136.14, there, saved you 3 mins
David Keane thank you you saved 3 minutes of my life
Thank you!
David Keane thank you 😎
That's a lot of money, but its not "astonishing" and certainly not all that much of a surprise.
Thank you!
That's 30 pennies a day for 45 years, He must have worked at it.
