The one thing that is holding me back is the fact that it does not have auto stacking or auto bracketing. would you say that plays a roll in the quality of images? Or could you please tell me more based on this subject. I really want to purchase this camera but before i go all Sony i want to make sure it’s right for me! thank you!

    great review. I'm giving my A7rIII to my son at college. I was considering replacing it with the Nikon as the menu system on the Sony is frustratingly (is that a word?) complex and I also was a Nikonian for decades before I got the Sony at the recommendation from my cousin who is a pro. But after watching this, the choice seems pretty clear to stay in the Sony world and get the updated version. Thanks for helping me spend $700 more than I planned!

    Since the firmware upgrade, I've not had any problems with Nikons Eye-AF but agree the Sonys Autofocus is better. It's quite an admission for you Jared to say that the AF on the SONY was so much better that you were able to get shots with the Sony on your shoot with Bernie, that you might have missed with the Nikon. You did however, previously state that you took one of your greatest photos ever with the Z7 at NASA. The Z7 seemed to nail the eye quite well on that shoot.

I got my D5100 for like $50 on eBay and then spent the money on good lenses, it worked great to start with and I’ve shot with it for 6 years and counting, it’s still a camera I take with me everywhere.

      This is just my opinion, but I hope the back screen on mirrorless cameras is like an appendix on humans: an artifact of evolution. Yes, the newbies coming to mirrorless from smart phones will want to chimp each shot, but the EVF is the way of the future IMHO. Hopefully, the next wave of technology will offer a modular EVF, on multiple screens. On Sony, hopefully using the higher-bandwidth WiFi being tested on the new A9II.

    • @Hilmiapak
      @Hilmiapak 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      To the point where you cannot change from eye focus to another point. It is not true. On Z7 you can change the focus wherever you want by pressing the ok button. A square appears with triangles around it; you can bring it to anything or any person you want to fix focus to. And press ok again. If it moves it autofocuses to the target you choose. I don't have Sony. I don't know how it goes.

    • @bjornvesterdahl9238
      @bjornvesterdahl9238 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Hilmiapak, To press "OK-button" is very fiddly. Nikon NEEDS to change this to be more ergonomic. I own a Z6 by the way.

    • @stuartschaffner9744
      @stuartschaffner9744 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mikldude9376 , good points. I continue to hope that there will soon be a real evolution in EVFs once people get used to them more. EVFs have at least three big advantages over OVFs. First, of course, an EVF gives you a multimedia display not only of the scene you are composing but also the status of the camera controls. Since this fusion of data is controlled by a rather powerful computer, it can be customized by the photographer to fit their workflow. I do a lot of wildlife photography. I set exposure almost always manually, using the histogram display plus my thumb on an adjustment wheel. Many photographers use autoexposure of some kind, so the histogram would simply be a big distraction. One menu setting can add or remove the histogram.
      Second, the EVF can be as bright as you want and the EVF's housing shields your eye from bright sunlight. That housing also shields that bright glow from your surroundings so your subject is not distracted.
      Finally, camera designers have not yet begun to use the fact that an EVF doesn't have to be closely tied to the optical axis of the lens. A high-speed data cable is a lot cheaper and more flexible than fiber optics, and high-speed wifi (being tried for other reasons on the A9ii) is even more flexible. I hope that EVFs of the future will be modular and customizable for your particular workflow.
      As for your 60-year old eyes, my 75-year old eyes are very happy about EVFs. My right eye even has a cataract that is overdue for removal. It likes the fact that you can adjust the brightness. For dim-light photography you can also, on the Sony, toggle the "Setting Effect" menu item to go between a view that shows you what your exposure will be and a view that is always evenly lit. (In the latter, you lose the histogram, sadly.)

    Thank you for the video, I always appreciate your style and humor.... I m a professional photographer working with Nikon, I mostly shoot yoga retreats and music concerts of spiritual style of music, in many cases sound can be really low during the music performance meaning that if I decide to make a click everybody's attention turns on me because of its sound, he he ! I have seen many killing eyes so I now shoot only when the music goes loud .... plus most of the concerts are happening in low light conditions, and sometimes there can by extatic dancing so I need speed and fast focus, so I guess Sony is better... I m in love with this sony camera, but does it worth all the extra money in my case? Plus I already have nikkor lenses, if I get to choose to work with sony the adaptors will be working correctly with the body ? ... Keep on keeping on !

    That 6.5 fps on the a7R IV versus its rated 8 fps makes sense if the e-front curtain is turned off (which by the sound alone of the demo, it is). The a7 III slows down by 1-ish fps too.
    BUT it prevents the weird hard-edged bokeh you'd get above 1/1000th of a second otherwise, so it's a worthwhile tradeoff, I think.

The camera world frankly needs the injection of money with more and more people settling for smart phones.

    The write protect switch was silly on ordinary sd cards, and it is good Sony omitted them on the tough.
    But... If on a normal card it breaks of you don't lose any pictures you just can't use it anymore meaning your can't write anymore. So you may lose the ability to capture the moment but you don't lose any already made pictures.

      @@bjornvesterdahl9238 I don't see why not. Sony are known for eye AF at this point, so they'll always try to be improving their system as the competition catches up. It works great now, but it can still miss occasionally. And yeah, that fine tuning of the system obviously isn't as big of a jump, technically, as Nikon and Canon getting to the point where Sony is now from where they currently are, but for someone who uses eye AF often the difference between a system that hits 90% of the time and one that hits 99% of the time will be felt. So to those people, that fine tuning could feel as big of a technological jump, I think.
