We made it to Blast Off. The influence from Earth, Wind & Fire is absolutely insane on this track. From the floating chords to those progressions, you can just tell that they really pulled from that influence to envelop people in this atmospheric song. I feel like I’m in space during that section where they continuously modulated before Bootsy’s farewell. I love how you mentioned Bruno taking those liberties with his vocal melody during his verse, that is so beautiful to me that I loop his verse every time. Not to mention his musical vocabulary when he’s playing guitar, as you did correctly find that Bruno played the guitar solos on this album. He can play so many instruments, everyone please take a look at the credits for this album (you’ll be surprised) Either way, Blast Off is a beautiful song. This is a beautiful album, really. There’s not one track that I would skip. An Evening with Silk Sonic is a tribute to the R&B/Soul & Funk of the 70’s with some modern melodic and flow inspirations. That’s why this album is already timeless today, because it feels like we’ve always had this. But I love how they’ve interpreted this style in their own way. Their sense of humor just allows you to have as much fun listening as they had writing these songs. Man, I’m so glad I found this channel from the LTDO video. Shoutout to the folks at Music Shed, listening to this album with you allowed me to feel like it was my first time again too. I love talking with others in the comments, what are everyone else’s favorites on this album?? There’s no wrong answer, and Silk Sonic’s level of execution is the reason for that. Hats off to Bruno Mars, Anderson .Paak, Bootsy Collins, D’Mile, and the guest musicians like the string players and Thundercat. I’m going to be listening to this album for a long time, and it’s most definitely going to be an all-time favorite of mine along with Bruno and Andy’s other solo projects. See y’all on the next one. Happy trails, baba~

@@MusicShed I appreciate that a lot. I’m a relatively young music listener (23 years old) that loves the old-school Black American sounds of the 70’s and 80’s, so I always get super passionate in writing about stuff like this. I learned a lot watching your videos, as someone that doesn’t play an instrument. Thank you for sharing your reactions to this album, I loved seeing your passion for Black American music as well. It makes me want to keep listening and keep learning too!

100% agree with ya! This album was an experience, and has inspired me in lots of ways. Before these singles and the album I sort of hit a lull with my music, not much new music I had that felt interesting. Now I'm actively looking for more musicians that can give me an experience. This album overwhelmed me on first listen and felt like a journey inspired by the 70's soul music pioneers. Bruno and Paak are a matchmade in heaven that I hoped for when they toured in EU (sadly by the time the 24k tour got here to the US, Paak was no longer opening for him. He had Jorja Smith. I was disappointed lol). I had only hoped for a song, let alone an album hahah!
There's an amount of care, attention to detail, and exploration that's not represented much in pop music but ever present on this album. Picking favorites is tough but if I had to I'd probably say After Last Night, Blast Off and Leave The Door Open (maybe a boring pick but that song still hits lol)! There's magic in every track but these songs in particular are perfection and are a great listen no matter the mood I'm in. I'm a sucker for tasteful vocal harmonies, addictive bass lines, string sections, and tight drum fills. They deliver all of that in spades and more. Everything I could want out of this style of music, they deliver! What a time to be a music fan! Glad we got to share in these reaction videos with Music Shed. I truly love it here reading the comments. Hopefully I see you all on the other side of another Silk Sonic project? Haha

My favorite is Put On A Smile. IMHO thats a SOTY caliber track. There's only one thing i would change in the song.
At the climax with Bruno's note, starting at the same note, then bend upwards to a 2nd or a 3rd higher to further emphasize the despair he's trying to communicate to us.

This is such a perfect album closer. It's beautiful, and the feeling in your body lingers long after the audio stops. It has been making me very emotional seeing all these reactions and the comments to them. Silk Sonic is what the world of popular music so desperately needed right now. Contemporary artists with old souls, who care this much about the craft and the quality of what they make. Bruno Mars more than deserved to take a closer look at. This guy is one of the best singers of this generation and best performer. His dancing skills are unreal, hes a phenomenal drummer and pianist and obviously he plays unbelievable Guitar solos as well. Aditionally he mixes his vocals alone and also produces and writes his songs and other hits many didnt know he wrote. One of the most talented and variable artist ever imo. Obviously he is up there with the very best, but he is on of the best to ever bless us with his music and he didnt even finish... His Super Bowl performance 2014 I think it was is a must watch!!

Just like you , the first band that came to mind was Earth, Wind, and Fire, which is probably the greatest band of all times... My guess is that Bruno, Anderson, along with other writers, producers, and musicians contributed in putting this song together... I also believe that the multi talented Bruno is flexing his skills on the electric guitar, and that the multi talented Anderson is flexing his skills on the drums... Also, I think it's obvious that Bruno, Anderson,, along with other backup singers are extraordinary on vocals.....

Very cool reactions with the many teaching points, etc. One of the things I think you may be slightly mistaking, is the voices, which I believe also happened on After Last Night. The lead on the verses for this track definitely starts with Andy, & what’s cool as on the 2nd verse, Bruno joins in harmonizing, & finishes out the phrase himself. It’s amazing the blend these cats can get with their distinct vocal qualities. APaak is a little more grit based, which Bruno can access when he wants. But Andy talks about how Bruno pushed him & I think, how full & melodious his vocals come across at times, might be the result of that, if you check Anderson’s own work, like his live performances with his band, the Free Nationals, he’s definitely not goin for ‘polished’ sound vocally, but he sho nuff got next level on this project. The analogy you made of Bruno’s voice to a soprano sax on another reaction was profound. The whole project is lined up to sort of tell a story, take us on a trip. Had all kinds of high points on various tracks that, especially Put On A Smile, but this one is so amazingly gorgeous, lush & galactic! Not only EW&F, even when they sing in unison & that, ‘yeah yeeaahhh’, but the ‘good vibrations’ lyric, while singing it in rich harmony, recalls The Beech Boys as well, & also Van Halen’s version with imitation Rod Serling narration, Cool! ‘Thanks for reacting to this one. Happy Trails Bama!

In the black community, that song is a staple at a BBQ or family reunion. Also that song has been sampled a few times but nothing beats the original.

Completely agree…paying homage, hard work and extreme talent has paid off bringing this back beautifully to what is so good for our hearts. Each time I listen there is more to unpack. Beautiful memories from my youth, joy to my soul. I’m out of words and full of emotions. C’mon Bruno and Anderson you know you need to give us more, we’ll be patient, it’s so worth the wait. New Baby Boom on its way I think. Great reaction🐨👏🏼

When you asked who the guitarist was, I felt myself ready to smash through the wall and yell:
"he is a VOCALIST, a DANCER, a PERFORMER, a PRODUCER, a GUITARIST, a DRUMMER, a PIANIST, my HUSBAND, he be on them BONGOS, he is a LYRICIST--"

I have ordered the vinyl and fell in love with this entire album. It takes me back to my college days of the late 70s with the Bootsy Parliament feel and EWF influence is correct. I wanted this album to keep going and going. Listening to your channel and your reviews make me wanna be a musician but I chose the chorus/choir route because my mom couldn't afford an instrument. But my love of music is forever heightened. Silk Sonic has brought life back to R&B, Funk, Jazz, pure heaven. I go to sleep by this entire album and Loves Train... I am in love with your mastery of music. Thank you so much. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Blast off is my favorite of the album. I wish they stretched the intro (first song) out a bit more but the whole thing is a modern classic. Above The Rim Soundtrack, The Chronic, Love Jones Soundtrack, and now An Evening With Silk Sonic. Legendary stuff here!!!

I feel a real connection to you. Hearing the influences of other artists as you do and just soaring with pure delight and emotion and just when you think you can not take any more they lift it even higher. I am exhausted at the end of that track but sated and content. This may just been the finest body of work I have ever heard. What an emotional rollercoaster.

I haven’t had an entire album on repeat this much in my life. I found your channel after being so excited about the album I wanted to see how it moved others reactions. Your analysis of the homage they are paying to the funk and soul sound of old of while simultaneously displaying the chords are playing in makes your channel one I definitely plan to frequent. Now that your reaction videos to this AMAZING album are done, I hope you enjoy listening and jamming to this album as much as I have since it first came out.
