l recorded this from my TV back in ‘84? and have enjoyed it ever since from my cassette. It had got me into Tower of Power and l have seen the changing line-up develop. Thanks guys for a brilliant few decades of great music.
My dad was a white conservative of Norwegian decent, a scientist, loved the sound of the original big bands and he loved TOP, and especially the TOP horns. When he passed unexpectedly at the age of 94 he was still listening, still enjoying TOP.
I just turned 60. Saw this group in Seattle, but I can't remember exactly when...1/2-zeimers! I KNOW THIS SOUND! It's what I grew up on. Oh, so, sweet!
Saw them live at The Bottom Line when Ellis was still with them for the Power Alblum. Richard Elliot actually had to re-program Ellis Halls DX-7 before they could start. They smoked from the opening song. Richard Ellliot made sea gull sounds on his sax during his solo and bugged everyone out.
I have really enjoyed all of TOP's lead singers for the unique talents they bring to the group. BUT, LB is a monster! The baddest cat in all the land. TOP the baddest funk band EV ER.
Me, too!! Guess he wore the special shades to fool folks into thinking they were actually viewing one of Stevie's badd ass tunes? Looks like he actually fooled a few of us!!?
can you imagine the Tightest horn section and the funkiest band of all time has only had 2 big hits......Your still a youngman and "So very hard to go" HOWEVER musicians know how great the TOP is !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
five original members in this version of the Tower - and credit to this band: about 6 singers they have had killed this tune - its a dream to wail on, a are a few. My alternate picks are Michael Jeffries (24 great studio tracks w ToP in release), Larry Braggs now for sure, McGee was best on this tune and By Your Side by Cliff Coulter. PS at least on his hit tune, how heavy was the return to the mic of Rick Stevens? I thought, very

More than 5 decades, timeless exciting Soul / jazz X
Loved them from the beginning!!! The fabulous TOP❤️
"Some days were meant for rain" one of their most underated ballards.
Thank God for Tower! I saw Ellis and Richard Elliot when they BOTH toured with Tower in the eighties.
Thank God we have TOP for 44 years! Tremendous musicians. If there was a real rock hall like the NFL has theirs TOP would have been there already
anybody not thinking Ellis was TOP's greatest singer ever just needs to drink this video in. This is a clinic in soul singing.
Love love love this performance!!!!!!

This version of the song is crazy good...so much "live" energy. Rocco could probably be arrested in several states for grooving this hard. lol

Even the stiff conservative Iowa state crowd had to applaud after that performance!
I think this was shot at some point in the late '70s/early '80s.
How great would it be to see Dennis McMurrin playing with TOP as he should be....?
It looks like The Maintenance Shop at Iowa State University.I dont know the year.Middle eighties?
Could somebody tell me where I can get a copy of the Tower of Power live at Iowa State University video please :-))
Any idea of the venue? TV special?
I patted Ellis on the back once after a show.
