Reggae cover of Jimmy Buffett's "A Pirate Looks at Forty." We've been jamming this classic song on the tour bus for the past few years so we thought we'd record a studio cover version for y'all!

something about 40 and this song!?! Honestly didn’t hear it until this month, and not even this version and I’ll be 40 in October. Between the last couple bullshit years and feeling in a rut, this kind of music opened me up to a whole new compartment in my brain. GOD BLESS anyone who might read this. I wish I was introduced to these musicians long ago... now I don’t know if I can make it through a day without Stick Figure touching my soul through my ear holes.

You will not have trouble doing so with that smile and your passion to learn skills ... I learned the basics of sailing and enough to sail with assistance standing by at 12 years of age . Those feelings of freedom , of pure zen with the wind and salty air surrounding me will always fill my happiness I carry with me thru this life .
I hope to see that smile and your dreams become a reality when you set sail someday . . My father was a sailor in WW2 and afterwards he became a captain and was the harbor master in Brunswick Georgia. There was 5 boys. We were shrimpers in the 70's when the Columbia gold was pouring in FLA, Georgia, right up the east coast. I was a shrimper at first then I went broke in key west and got on a tug boat to support my 4 boys. We were as close as humanly possible to being real pirates. We we're well known by all the fishermen. Half of them got rich hauling square groupers. Some went to federal prison at Egland air force base in FLA. But it was awesome back then. We would do things on those shrimp boats that would blow your mind. It became a lifestyle and we were always chasing shrimp all over the gulf ,east coast,ect. They put an end to hauling pot and started hauling coke. I had to get away from that Life. People were dying,or murdered. It was crazy. I got shot twice on two different occasions. One was 12 ga slug. Bout killed me. Had my friends bringing me coke in the hospital. I should write a book because I'm one of the last generations that saw the old days and lived it. I'm living in Fernandina beach Florida now. I'm a native islander. Before the invasion. We had to ride a.boat to go to school because we lived on sapelo Island georgia.and Cumberland island Georgia too. I was born on st. Simon's island. Totally different world then. You had to be tough just to survive. I got hundreds of bad ass stories
The original by Jimmy Buffet was something that defined my childhood by visiting the USVI when I was 6. open air jeeps, tiki bars, carnival, coconut tree climbing, and gecko hunting was all I cared about my whole youth after that and this song brings me back to a time when the world made sense to me, I fuckin love this cover!
