I hope someday to earn Shodan. I will continue while I can and hope to achieve the goal, but to be honest, I am enjoying the journey and not thinking of the destination. My Sensei says Black Belt means you now have all the fundamentals and are proficient in Judo, but still have long way to go to master the art.
Youll get there, just never stop and enjoy the process. Osu!
A black belt in judo is a daunting task and I´m really proud I finally got mine. I guess I´m a mixture of academic and athlete, because I think my judo is decent but I also learned a lot of techniques and intend to do some instructor courses now that I finally got the shodan.
Im eventually going to do the canadian national training program for Judo, theres four different levels and you need it to teach officially in a club and to open a club if ever you want.
It also dives into super interesting. History of Judo as well.
Tokuzo Takahashi is 47 YEARS OLD and just won a silver medal at the U.S. senior nationals for -100 KG....Let that sink in.
You're 44? DAMN ... did you train alongside Ras Al Ghul and his Lazarus pit or something? You look 24.
I looked that up, hehehe, appreciate that, Osu!
So when you were 24 you probably looked 12???? I'm 37 I look 58
@@Epilepticchefproductions sunscreen, and judo 😂😁
@@OGFITNESS when you have three kids no amount of judo or sunscreen can save you hahaha... I'm a BJJ guy and Japanese Jujitsu, got my first Judo class tomorrow. I'm really excited. Luckily I know how to breakfall.
I hope to get my black belt in 2 years and l will do everything to get it. I'm currently a blue belt. Judo is such an amazing martial art
You got those brother! Go get it, Osu!
Sir this is one of the best videos i ever watched about this topic, not many people understand the black belt and the true meaning of it
Oss
Thanks brother! Osu🙏🥋🙇♂️
My goal is achieve a Judo Black Belt, I'm a judo green belt, jiujitsu brown belt and also train mma, grappling & wrestling.
Good breakdown - thanks for sharing!
My pleasure, osu!
After getting mine....i ask myself. Having back issues at 24. "Is all this worth it?" Yes..🤣🤣 i tell my wife, I regret nothing 😂
I was having back issues at 16😅 i remember a sort of funny episode when I was 19 and having a bad back day: I was in ju jitsu practice trying to take it slowly to not upset my back even further, when the club bully throws me with all his might in a “light randori” session. I laid down for a few seconds thinking “damn it, my back is really fked up after this”. I was super surprised when I had no more pain whatsoever that evening. It was incredible, involuntary chiropractic intervention! My back is better in my 30s, cannot really complain tbh (with a bit of discipline ofc). All the best and congrats on your Shodan!
Glory is forever! Back pain only till death. 😂, osu!
you look young chief
Sunscreen, exercise, sleep the big 3, of course lay off drugs and alcohol
I know you used to do BJJ. I did Judo for 2 years but I was super unfit and was 40 at the time. I feel the same thing with Purple Belt being the fun part of BJJ. I got my purple belt in March. I primarily train no-gi right now I’m killing it. I did a 2 hour open mat and got submitted once out of 10 rolls or so. I submitted everyone I rolled with multiple times during each roll except the guy that taped me. Ranks I rolled with were low level blue to mid level brown belt. So fun 18 months ago I sucked and was getting destroyed by everyone. Something clicked around that time and my skill just exploded.
Would u say bjj or judo is better to learn for self defense
@@Canecorso14 Difficult question. Judo is a very powerful martial art that it very devastating if done on concrete. BJJ comes from Judo. It depends on how you train each one. The sports aspect and the competition aspects have handicapped the sport with each of them. So if you train each of them for the intent of self defense you would have to be able to pull off your primary techniques in different situations such as no-gi, with a hoodie, no shirt, shorts, jeans. The gi, in both sports is a huge handicap in my opinion. Not a fan of it outside of the sports. So additionally Judo is very rough for an older person. I was 40-42 when did judo. Very out of shape and 1.5 hours per week was incredibly hard on my body. In BJJ I actively train relatively hard and intense with a few 66-70 yr old guys. I prefer BJJ, and there are Judo and wrestling elements that are very effective. So you do get a lot out of BJJ. I would say BJJ if you have 6-8 yrs to get to Purple Belt.
@@ConveyApp thanks for response ya am 41 6’2 230 need to drop a couple pounds lol ya probably bjj would be better option
@@Canecorso14 Yeah, I love judo very much it’s just very rough on my body. Judo is this standing grip game and going from 0-100% in 1/2 sec to be effective. BJJ is not like that. You just can’t overly committed to anything. It’s more of a 49-51% game. Very chess like at the upper levels. My coach always says to use wrestling on a Judo guy to get him on the ground to do BJJ, or Judo on a wrestler to get him on the ground to do BJJ. I have another coach that’s a BJJ black belt and a Judo brown belt. He was ultra competitive in BJJ as a BJJ brown belt 10 yrs ago. He said that Judo at the higher levels creates really bad habits for BJJ competition because of the Judo competition training. He said he would throw a dude and he would have way to much velocity in the throw he had to roll off of his opponent and disconnect from him and him and the opponent would wind up in a scramble. He said he lost a few matches because of his Judo training. In Judo if you throw someone and they hit the mat with their back cleanly, it’s an automatic win. BJJ that’s just the start of the match.
Good job brother, purple belts is serious business, starting with bjj is a great and safer option to get back into shape, then when you’re ready start working on them break falls, and pick up some judo. Double Black has an amazing ring to it no? Osu!
Happy new year oss
You too brother! Osu!
One day, you look back and realize you're not 75 anymore, and you think. What happened?
😂
In Judo and other budo arts like Aikido - Karate -Japanese Jiu Jitsu it is like mastering the basics and a stepping stone , i hope i can get a black belt someday but for me every belt is a achievement and it is about the journey and fighting ability .
Hong it was mention before but can you make a video about JJJ (Japanse Jiu Jitsu)? and show us the depths of the martial art and if is a good choice for adult that want to have a middle way between Judo and BJJ?
Thanks Oss 🤙🥋⛩️
Its about the fighting ability, the journey is part it. Go wrong direction and you can suck forever. Hope is a terrible strategy, make a plan to get there and execute.
For now i wont make a vid about JJJ, i don’t know enough about it at this point, when i do i will. Osu!
Midway betw bjj and judo? 🤔, maybe , ill think on that. Osu!
What would make someone not consider bjj you think? Judo i understand, for bjj the only thing i can think of is the price, and if a school focuses on sports without practical street application.
@@OGFITNESS I'm floating a bit brother, I just have to go for it, but where I live there are no judo schools that meet my times or are to expansive for 1 hour training.
, So that's why.
BJJ is a lot, but self defense is crucial for me.
I dont say BJJ is bad , i love it! But i prefer Judo or JJJ.
Keep up the great work 👌🤙🥋⛩️🇨🇦🇻🇳
Hey Mr. Nguyen which Dan are you?
A coach once told me (he is german) a blackbelt is like a highschool degree (=Abitur). It takes time and after that you only have the basics. The individual study aka university starts after that.
Sounds about right!
,osu
I am going for my shodan grading in June and I really hope I can pass 🤞for many months I’ve been practicing the 3 sets of nage no kata to try and get an exception at a tournament at the end of the month or April so I don’t have to do it at my grading I hope everything works out in the end
First one here Oss. Awesome content as always
Thank you brother🙏, osu!
I am 43 and starting judo…again after 20 years off.
Too old? We’ll see…
Osu!
I'm 44 and started judo a month or so ago. I'm loving it! Never to old, just more pain and slower recovery.
@@jamesSmith-fl5wv good job, also 44 here and orange belt 2 years in. We all just gotta keep showing up :)
@andrewharrison3888 that's right my brother, it helps that I got my two daughters in judo with me and they push me to get on the mat.
OG have you noticed an athletic decline?
Great question, yes and no, ill a video about this. Osu!
I'm 44 and was very athletic as a young man. The recovery and endurance slows down but I'm far stronger now.
