For those who don't know Robby Gordon races baja and in american off-road racing generally if your going slow your suppose to move out of the way, and let the faster driver pass you, typically they will honk the horn a few times and if no response they bump you from behind to left you know they are there cause when your wearing a helmet, talking to your navigator, and focusing on the road it's hard to hear or notice someone behind you especially with the amount of dust they kick up. What he did
Did you know that they have a "warning system" to let other drives know that they are being slowed down because of them? Bumping might no be so a "nice move" but the same applies to "slowing down" other vehicles.
thats because for over 50 years every driver has managed to get by without having to ram into the back of a fellow competitors car while both cars are doing well over 120kph!! thats just not a sporty thing to do in any rally
the drivers are told this befor they race, they have to honk twice and if their opponent dont get out of the way then they have the right to bump them, no more then a slight bump.
for those who say that in rally slower car let pass the faster or for those who say that the "sentinel signal" goes bip to signal a close vehicle... well it's totally different: in rally there is only one road, here there is the desert and everyone has his way and finds his road the sentinel is only a safety device to avoid contacts, doesnt give the order to move away Gordon is just a moron, lucky he found a gentleman, if he did that to me he would be horizontal
ASO stands for 'Amaury Sport Organization', which is the organization that runs the dakar rally, tour de france, and other major european events. just like FIA heads up formula 1, and SCORE heads up the baja 500 and baja 1000, the ASO is the head of the dakar rally. hope that helps.
Dakar is offroad race for men who can drive offroad, if that lane is busy he should make him self another, or next he should mess with kamaz master guys, they like to play when pushed
@walspeed they have a device inside of their vehicle called a sentinal, which weeds out that weak ass excuse by alerting the driver when a vehicle is right on his or her tail, and he was probably doing a measly 70 or 80 that hummer will do 125- 130 and thats exactly what robby was wanting to do, because the faster you go the more time you gain.
Bumping an ongoing car in off road racing is like nocking on a door, before you enter. First, you blow the horn. When it doesn't move out the way, you bump. Besides I know the guy he bumped, and they have no problems with that. Gordon helped him a lot in the service area too.
This bumping is common practice in off road racing, I can understand it would upset people if they didn't know how it is when someone will not let them by. It would be bad if he ran him off the road, but it was just a little love tap to tell the other driver to get out of the way!
while the gordon H3 is 'basically' a trophy truck(basically, ground up tube chassis, just like every other TT, pro truck, top class dakar rig, etc.), the rules for the SCORE baja races and the ASO paris-dakar rally are quite a bit different(meaning, robby can't run his baja 1000 TT in dakar). one of the biggest differences is wheel travel. it's unlimited in SCORE baja, but ASO limits it quite a bit for dakar, which is a shame IMO. wish the ASO would start up an unlimited-style class.
my man.. one of those "dakar trucks" tried the baja 500 once.. made it 20 miles and they had to stop cause the drivers kidneys hurt too much/i think they peed blood or something. literally had to retire medically cause it was that rough in one of your "trucks". soo needless to say he wont have to mess with your kabirov or whateve.
