I still have mine identical to this one. Bought is new in 1989 on sale for 500. It has been everywhere, ridden hard on trails, through 8 years of school at two universities, beach riding etc. Changed wheels and pedals due to wore out. Still rocking along and may never part with it.
Last month someone was tossing out scrap steel. In the pile was a Trek 820 "Mountain Track" with Rock Shox Jett XC. First year SRAM "grip shift" seven speed and complete Shimano Altus drive train. Wisemann rims. Cr Mo frame....this baby rocks! Been a while since I rode a bike with Cantilever Altus brakes...I think the bike is 1992-93?
Because people got sick of the new piece-of-shit disc brakes (expensive to buy, ride, fix, and maintain), and brittle carbon frames. So we look back to rim brakes and steel frames.
Because a full chromoly , double butted , made in USA steel frame with great components group set like this bike would cost a couple thousand now. You can buy them if you lucky and find one on good condition on Craigslist, for 100 to 400 , depending on condition and if upgraded... PS. They awesome trail or street and have rack mounts ...
