  • “The Heavenly Vision” or “Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus”. A lyric video for the popular hymn “Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus”, with piano instrumental accompaniment.
    The hymn “The Heavenly Vision”, better known as “Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus” from the first line of its popular chorus, was written by Helen Howarth Lemmel (1863-1961) in 1918.
    Helen was inspired to write the hymn after she was shown a devotional essay called “Focused”, written by the artist and missionary Isabella Lilias Trotter. As she meditated on the line from the essay that read “Turn full your soul’s vision to Jesus, and look and look at Him, and a strange dimness will come over all that is apart from Him”, the lyrics and melody of her famous hymn came to her spontaneously. Over the next few days, she was led to complete the verses. She initially distributed it as a devotional poem, and in 1922, published it as a hymn in the collection “Glad Songs”.

    Lyrics:
    Verse 1
    O soul, are you weary and troubled?
    No light in the darkness you see?
    There’s light for a look at the Savior,
    And life more abundant and free!
    Refrain
    Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
    Look full in His wonderful face,
    And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
    In the light of His glory and grace.
    Verse 2
    Thro' death into life everlasting,
    He passed, and we follow Him there;
    O’er us sin no more hath dominion--
    For more than conqu’rors we are!
    Verse 3
    3. His Word shall not fail you--He promised;
    Believe Him, and all will be well:
    Then go to a world that is dying,
    His perfect salvation to tell!
