Loved the realism in this game. It was so refreshing for me to actually fear the enemy soldiers instead of going as a terminator/rambo hybrid like in CoD and BF games.
Exactly. You really try and be as perfect and effective as possible with your tactics in the game because you could easily die with one hit or get hit somewhere your character will limp, breath heavier and die from the wound eventually if left untreated and med packs weren't unlimited either. You could share med packs with your squad too.

This was good. It is like a Halo game in that you had freedom to move and strategize and every playthrough would be different. Red river, though, is overly linear, with hitmarkers and stuff. Didn't enjoy it as much. Dragon Rising clearly had more love put into it by the developers

Probaly the most realistic, tatical game out there. I would be stuck on missions for hours i remember...i think i might replay this again
Wasnt too hard i remember except a few parts. Village defense, airfield if you lose too many friendly units, oil refinery demo mission (getting in and then holding off enemies till extraction) , and the pow rescue mission. The last mission can be tricky at part you need to eliminate aa threat before blackhawks arrive.

@@m3rl1on I'll never understand why. So many classic games do so many things right and the devs nowadays are sorely lacking in everyway. There's games like star citizen that are overachieving and it's difficult for anyone without $1000 on hand to play it. I just want a combined arms game with all vehicles and infantry action on a broad scale set in WW2. Like, take the vehicle combat from warthunder, the new U-boat games tactical abilities and features, and a real world scale with logistics and all that

@pavo6503 You should get your eyes checked for color-blindness. Anybody can see that everything is tinted green, not just the grass.

It's really not that good looking. The helicopter rotors look terrible, the vignette and ugly tinting are terrible. The LOD is garbage. Arma 2 looks way better even when both are played on PC.
@@hellcatdave1 The newer ArmA games are just outdated, clunky and unoptimized. Both have pretty glaring flaws but one is more popular.

So many ways to stray off course and do crazy shit. First mission on the far side of the island you can ambush a grounded mi28 helicopter.
The rescue pilot mission you can steel the tunguska AA instead of destroying it.
In the armour mission you can move to the armoured column firing on the mountain stronghold and take the M1 abrams or the amphibious vehicle.
Message me for more details. There are a few tricks and catches.

@@Josh-mi7oq yep. It's hard to do but can be done. On the resume the pilot mission there is a patrolling gunship. If the shoot the pilots with the 50cal machine gun on the American or Chinese vehicles it will drop out of the sky.
Park your hummvee next to it. Repair it and enter. You can do this with any enemy helicopter. Also parking a hummvee next to a vehicle you can't enter allows you to enter it for some reason. Same with the AA tunguska. Park right next to it to enter. But beware a live crew will exit it
nixymagoo oh damn thanks, I'll definitely try that next time. one time on that rescue mission, an allied little bird got damaged and crash landed, but i never managed to flip it over to fly it. seems like you can just light up a helo with small arms fire and get them to land that way sometimes
@@Josh-mi7oq lol. So much cool shit. Try steel the heli in the first mission. Beware there's a spec ops team guarding it. You can get the heli in the mission where you need to evade the enemy. There's a sniper team hiding in an old house. Kill him to get the chinese 50 cal sniper. Also the Last mission where you assault the mountain check the map and drive right out to the armoured column. Park your humvwe next to the amphibious vehicle and use the 40mm grenade launcher as a morar. You can take out all the emplacements using thermal vision so you only have to clear the castle. You can use the abrams next to it to destroy the AA so you can call in air support. Don't drive forward until all the emplacements are gone otherwise the arty will get you

I have this game for 360 I enjoyed the single player even if I didn't get to drive any of the vehicles. The squad gameplay and firefights where intense enough for me that I had fun when shit went down. Also the few online firefights i had were amazing fun! I mostly enjoy controlling the large grops of AI soldiers. No other game allows you to do that. The Last game I played that let you control AI soldiers like that was Desert Storm 1 and 2 for PS2.

It was definitely appealing for the era, but once I got into ARMA3 it was over.
@@PRiMETECHAU true it was much earlier but even then it wasn't nearly as massive or in depth as arma 2 and its plethora of mods. OFP was arma for console players really.

The little birds were straight OP against AI at the start, you'd get 40 kills at the start.
This game needs a little work but it is very highly slept on would like to see them release another operation flash pointgame
people keep talking about how much nostalgia they have and how overlooked it is but you guys don't seem to grasp the idea that for a console tactical shooter it's pretty good but for a sequel in the arma series it was abysmal and yes i know the arma name came afterwards
Truth. Bohemia was way better at listening to their fans and knowing what kind of company they wanted to be portrayed as. Which is why Operations Flashpoint is dead (except as remakes in newer Arma games), and why Arma 3 almost a decade after release has a growing playerbase.

i used to love playing this game back on ps3 and xbox i remember playing as the US and 1v1 people on the bridge map and trying new ways to hold the bridge or get across it, you could fly over with the two black hawks or speed across with the humvees or if u just want to have a massive infantry shoot out fight on either side it was amazing.
Oof the 00's.. The time of over-the-top bloom, cheap-ass HDR and desaturated high contrast visuals. I can't even decide if it's supposed to be day or night in this footage. :D Gotta love it.

Codemasters shut their Guildford studio and mothballed the IP due to poor sales. OP Red River tanked famously
Codemasters only focuses on racing now. Those fools prioritized marketing the last two OFP games to look better instead of actually making them better.
Because it's just inferior to Arma in being a hardcore milsim/tactical shooter, and it would be company suicide to compete with the team at Bohemia (who made the first Operation Flashpoint) who have practiced this art of milsim for many years now.
This game was amazing. While everyone was playing call of duty I was playing this. The next game in this series sucked, red river. I loved dragon rising.
for a pure war game dragon rising excells, while red river tried to feature more cinematic flare and a bit more characters. i thought both were good for what they offered.

@@benjaminburns4412I have the mission packs but for it to work in the whole game it requires an older version of ofdr, There is a way to get it in the text files but it's kinda sketchy.

@Benjamin had it. It was awful compared to Dragon. Like they were trying to relate to cod and bf series. Don't get me wrong it was still fun. Not what I was expecting tho

I still remember when i played this game with my friends. You get to command an entire platoon of soldiers and led them to win an objective in multiplayer. It was so much fun. The only issue is that AIs are bit dumb when it comes to following the command. Once i had a whole mi-8 helicopter filled with PLA soldiers, i wanted them to hover above the battlefield and get rid of the enemies in designated LZ with covering fire first. But instead they just landed directly in the middle of the battlefied, and half of the platoon went down with that chopter.... Well those are some good memories.
Once I C4ed a chopper and left it in a road. The other team loaded it full and took off, can't remember how many kills I got from that but it still makes me laugh 😂

I had an ad that had gunfire and helicopter noises. Needless to say I thought I was under fire and was pretty tense
During the early days multiplayer was so intense you can get some epic battles out of it.

This game was so replayable because it was always different I remember always partying up with 3 randoms and we worked like a team because you had to on this game

If I did 2vs2 in system link with 4 consoles would it be 2vs2? Or would each player get 3 ai allies? So it would be 8 vs 8? Xbox 360 version.

I just finished red river and want to start dragon rising. Is there anything I should know about, like gameplay mechanics that is missing in the first title? I loved the campaign of the red river so much that I want to start dragon rising.
Designate each team mate to a target but make sure to order HOLD FIRE right after, before they fire at will, you also, choose a target...after it's all set up give the order to FIRE AT WILL.

This had moving clouds and not just a static sky. Something no other FPS has even caught on to. The world felt alive and immersive.

You can play through LAN. There are somewhat-active communites on Steam that host games sometimes.

No, arma 4 will be something equal as dragon rising was, most of the clunkiness is removed from previous games, better optimized, more smoother, better graphics, and much more

Yeah 2009 i got it in summer of 2010 for the xbox 360, I was blown away how real it looked at the time I still play from time to time the make it rain is classic damn I spend many many hours in this game, I cant remember in one stage in the campaign were these helicopter pilots are there to back you up I shot both of them to take there MP-5 loll I notice in red river the gun jams occurr more often in it

I still remember grinding through this game on my old X360. I never did beat that cock-suck of a final mission though. Now that I've found Arma, though, I don't miss Dragon Rising much.

BL4CKB34RD Same dude, my buddy and I had a strategy for it too where you get an rpg off of one of the Chinese then run up the hill to the left and if you get good with it (which we did, after like probably 7 hours on that one mission) you could nail 2 of the 3 aa’s in the village then move in and get the last one before the chopper lands. Then we’d hijack the helicopter cuz the ai pilots suck and we’d fly by the aa at the main navy base and land behind it on the hill. I can’t remember if we ever finally beat it but I think we might have.
@@philswift1252 Meh. I tried everything from driving around in a tank to what you did and nothing worked. I could never get to that third Shilka (the one that's surrounded on 3 sides by buildings near the middle of the town) in time. If they had simply given us more time to accomplish the objective, maybe it would be doable, but the way it exists is just silly.
I personally hate missions where it feels like you have to rush your ass around to get anywhere, especially when "hurry up and wait" is the name of the game in military life. As for real life, you know no helicopter pilot is gonna fly into an area that's full of SPAA and grenadiers/MANPADs/AT units until they're told it's all clear, so the mission is completely unrealistic. As far as LZs go, the one in that mission is about as hot as it gets, bordering on suicidal.

Yep! I remembered after I played this, I started looking at stuff like Arma 2, which I didn't really like Arma until Arma 3 came out, then THAT was my jam. 1000+ hours in there, DayZ mods, all the mods, all the scenarios. That game is still going strong. I'll have to install OF:DR again, I haven't played it since 2010 or something.
I'm playing this game in 2024 and in my opinion this game has much better AI than Arma. Managing a team is much easier and more intuitive. The truth is that AI will never replace a real player, but in this game the AI companions are much more precise and competent than in Arma
If only squad with singleplayer and mission editor and good ai but i doubt it’ll ever come that would make it my favorite military shooter of all time.
Underated games! I think I remeber flash point map was so big it would take a couple hours to cross end to end on foot
