I started with Goodreads and have recently adopted StoryGraph. You’re so right about the Goodreads site needing an update!

I genuinely switched to the StoryGraph at the end of last year and that’s what I’ll be tracking on for this year and potentially for the rest of my reading life. It’s so much better plus the app is super user friendly.

I love Story Graph for the recommendations!! I’ve got some great reads from there and I love the rating system too! Helps me better understand what to expect in a book!!

Hi, I am just getting back into reading a couple years from retirement. I tried GoodReads and, to me, it sucks!
I imported my fairly small TBR to StoryGraph and am liking it so far. I hesitated when seeing they operate on a subscription model (which I also hate…I don’t want to pay more than once simply to keep track of my reading). Upon looking into it, I found that the things I want to do are covered with the free version. I would definitely pay one time for the advanced analytics, but not every year.
Anyway, I looked through your videos and didn’t see a follow up to this one. Can you tell us more about how the switch has been working for you?
    Thanks!

I liked StoryGraph better than Goodreads overall, but...I ended up back with Goodreads 😅 I read almost exclusively on my Kindle and if you connect your Amazon/Kindle account to Goodreads, it gives you the option to give a star rating at the end of the book. So I can automatically update Goodreads right then and there. With StoryGraph, I had to remember to go to their website or app to look up a book and rate from there. At the end of the day, I'm lazy. So having the auto-update was better for me.

@@MeredithPhillipsWrites That makes sense. I have been reading Kindle on my iPad; however, I’m switching to hardcovers (getting nice editions, like Folio Society, Easton Press, Everyman’s Library, and Library of America). However, I’ll still get the Kindle book sometimes, when it’s more convenient. If I was just reading on the app, like you are, I can see why you’d stick with Goodreads.
For me, I have several bookshelves of books I want to read, including sections of classics, science fiction, murder mysteries (e.g., Christie and Conan Doyle), Crime novels (e.g. Chandler and Hammond), nonfiction (science, history), children’s lit (e.g., The Wind in the Willows, Alice in Wonderland), and Westerns (showing my age☺️).
I’m not interested in reading most contemporary books, since they are very hit or miss. I will get certain ones, when I’m pretty sure I’ll like them, like Andy Weir’s Project Hail Mary).
That’s a long way to say that the suggestions on GoodReads don’t fit me at all. Thanks for your reply.

I like the IDEA of tracking a lot more than the ACT of tracking my reading. This may be because my TBR grossly exceeds my read pile...

      I want to read over 6,000. I’ve read 700+ books since 2011.

I like the graph dlemdnts on storygraph and the search function is more accurate. I find the importing from goodreads clunky though, because it put a load of things there that I never added at all, so I had to delete and re-add everything manually. So sadly my storygraph stats are nothing like those on goodreads.

You have convinced me to try Story Graph 😂 although I'm not sure I am ready to leave Goodreads. I might have to try both this year and see which I like more 🤔

Switched to Storygraph for 2021 and not looking back. Well... I still haven't figured out how to sort by rating on SG but... that and shelving friends' books is the only things I've used GR for in a year: SUCCESS. (and s*ck it, Zon!) 😆Their stats are fun!

    I’m exporting from goodreads now

I like the sound of StoryGraph but to be honest, I probably would have to keep goodreads for the author side of things, and so I'll stick with it. Jealous of the half/quarter stars tho!

Yeah, the only updates they make to GR is to charging authors for promotions, eyyyyyy *ba-dum-tsss*
