As a former nurse, I started having the exact same symptoms Carlin is having. They started in April 2016 & took me multiple neurologist & 4 years to get answers. Final diagnosis was conversion disorder. It is caused from trauma. I have been in trauma therapy now for nearly 2 years & been symptom free for nearly a year. I pray they can get her correct diagnosis. I know how scary & frustrating trying to get the answers needed for correct treatment

      I agree Conversion disorder

    • @mollieedwards5967

Yes it can be caused from several different types of things
Mine was from head trauma age 7
I have tried several times typed this lol
Often missed and hard to make a diagnosis it comes and goes for Years it slowly takes time before it gets worse its Often times triggered by an issues or illness (me several autoimmune diseases)

@@mollieedwards5967 Yeah I also have multiple autoimmune illnesses. SLE lupus, connective tissue disease, Fibromyalgia, Reynauds, etc.....I personally believe majority of health related issues are directly related to either some type of mental illness or head trauma. It's so hard to get Dr's to listen, but as a former nurse, I'll fire them in a heartbeat & keep on until I find one that WILL LISTEN. I'm sorry you have all these things too

I can relate to the frustration of not knowing what is going on. I spent most of my life knowing that something was wrong but my Dr didn’t want to help me. Years later my uncle is diagnosed with something that I realized that I had from the symptoms & being officially diagnosed. I still knew something else was wrong, my naturopathic Dr that helped me more than any primary care Dr decided to test me for one of my worst nightmares. I looked up the symptoms & remembered being bitten by a tick while back east when I was 2 yrs old. Test came back positive for that meaning I have chronic Lyme, a disease that is a nightmare that so many Americans have often without realizing it until something seriously goes wrong. I used to be a live in nanny to a woman who was ill just to find out after she started having seizures that she had Lyme. Lyme can present it’s in so many ways, it’s worth doing the two best Lyme tests…it’s worth the money! It’s worth ruling it out.
God bless & bring you answers asap 🙏🏻

The most hepful thing a doctor told me when I was going through my issues was "Medicine is not an exact science alot of times it's trial and error before you find out" he also told me that they work off symptoms and look for things that relate. Same. As a Masters prepared RN, this is not ok or normal. I also have POTS and Graves’ disease. I completely understand wanting to trust physicians and not be “that patient”. I’ve been there. But you HAVE TO advocate for yourself. Always. After advocating for myself, my cardiologist finally said “I cant figure this out so IAm sending you to someone smarter than me” and sent me to an electrophysiologist. I cried at my first visit because he sat down, asked me a couple questions, and said “yep, you have POTS.” I balled my eyes out. After hearing “I don’t know for so long, it felt so amazing to hear an answer and not feel crazy. He did a tilt table test to confirm what he already knew. I have since had patients and students with POTS and seen first hand the “seizure like” activity related to POTS. You’re right Evan……there is a good chance the 2 are related. Please insist on seeing a electrophysiologist. I didn’t like my first one so I found the best one in Arkansas and have been healthy and no episodes in several years. Please just take the chance and go see one.

I could not agree more. If you can’t find a doctor that will push go to another doctor. I had a 3 year plus ordeal of literal hell. I have Interstitial cystitis. Worse pain ever. Never ending, soul crushing . My first primary care said it was a “bullshit disease” as in not real. I kept pushing and went to at least 4 doctors. I had a surgery that was supposed tto “ fix” it, nope. Finally I got to a dr at the university hospital in my state ( Kentucky, go cats!) the doctor was the only Womens pelvic pain specialist in the state. 1 1/2 year wait list to get in ( I called every single morning and afternoon for cancellations and finally got in at 6 mos) the doctor was fantastic. She put me on 3 different meds . One is a medicine especially for IC. The only approved med. unfortunately it’s hella expensive but luckily my insurance covers quite a bit of the monthly cost. My situation turned around in 48 hours! I was so grateful I literally cried at every follow up. This dr recently retired but she trained another doctor before she left. Lots of time it’s just finding the right doctor who knows about these uncommon illnesses. Anyway, too long of a story, but there IS hope. And push and push and push and push some more. You are your best advocate.

Thankfully, they caught a Pseudo seizure inpatient and I saw about 5 doctors and 10 nurses RUSH TO CALEB'S room to visually watch the entire episode take place. 24 hours later, we got the dx of PNÈS, Pseudo seizure disorder.

I'm not going through what you are, but I do have something happening with my heart that started when I got covid back in June...and seeing you handling, with such grace, what I will endure at my first heart doctor appointment next week, just brings me some peace about it. Someone to look up to and think to myself, *Carlin is going through worse and pushes through, so can I*. May we all be strong in our storms like you. Lots of love and prayers.

Covid is not our friend. And it seems to never want to leave the party! Just dressed up as something different and tries to get on the guest list again😡That spike protein is so new to us humans and we aren’t used to this level of inflammatory response to either the germ/illness itself...or the vaccine. Yes, youtube- censor me for even daring to use those words. CDC will probably send someone to my house or I’ll open the door today and a life-sized locust will be on the other side! 😳 This virus is
here to stay and we have to learn how to live with it/treat it properly
And get it to GO AWAY!!!

Sorry covid got your heart too. Its awful how much it affected our bodies. Praying for you to get good results at your cardiologist appointment. I know I need to have a heart cath done at some point, but the palpitations (fluttery feeling when my heart beats) have returned along with chest pain and shortness of breath 😔😒

She doesn't have the limitations that comes with POTS. I have POTS and couldn't do anywhere near the things she does on a daily basis. Sounds more like NCS (vasovagal) or something related to the heart rhythm causing the drops. I really hope they find someone who actually starts digging into this rather than waiting weeks and months between tests/results.

As a person who has a seizure disorder I pray they don’t take much longer to get a diagnosis for Carlin. I have been epileptic for 40 years. I have been very stressed these last few years and I believe stress can induce seizures. I’m am praying for you and the doctors who are treating Carlin . someone has to figure this out ❤️

  • @carolfurry1617

Also a nurse here….hopefully, the stress test will show if the heart rhythm was out of whack when she had her “episode”. If not, that means there is no cardiac cause and a good thing. Some episode like she has are caused by standing in a position for too long or doing an activity for too long. The diagnosis is called vasovagal syncope who means she faints as an overreaction of the body to something. The heart rate drops and the blood pressure drops and she faints. An example would be someone that faints at the sight of blood or from emotional stress.
You all have this! Evan your support for Carlin is so helpful and just what she needs. Cardiology is likely the appropriate speciality to be seeing! Have they monitored her blood sugar to make sure there isn’t a drop in that from going too long without eating, too mush sugar or caffeine? Also if she’s dehydrated?
Hang in there!!!! Praying for answers and the knowledge of her doctors to promptly and properly diagnosis! ❤️❤️

Even when something is a challenging diagnosis, at least there is a plan and a protocol to treat it. With no diagnosis it feels like you're perpetually stuck in mystery mode. In the baby’s room would you also paint the one wall a cream color to match that scallops there? Then you could put a light tree in there instead of that green one. You know that one’s you see at hobby lobby? Like the soft white lights one for night or nap time.

The whole idea of doing stress tests is to bring episodes on. The heart pumps harder and faster, an and the test can reveal problems with blood flow. Better it happens there than at home. Maybe they will finally get some answers. Prayers for you all.

This is very interesting to me! I am a CV Tech myself, so I do these tests every single day! I hope they figure out something soon to calm your nerves. In addition, the actual cardiologist reads the results after the stress test, they are not the ones in the room. Plus, just because she had an episode during it does not mean that it is fully heart related. If the ecg is still looking normal, something else could be getting stressed out in the body that’s not being monitored.

Love seeing the house updates! And love Evan's sense of humor!! So so sorry you havent gotten answers yet. I really feel for Carlin and can relate. I have commented before with a little of my own journey, but to add to it, years ago I went through issues with passing out and I had psudeo seizures (they weren't technically seizures but looked just like one). When I was going through all of that I had a seizure inducing test which sent me into it and then a table test where they also tried to induce passing out and I had an episode then. It was good that they had me hooked up but the only answers I ever got was that my heart rate was crazy and there was some odd brain activity. Never got a clear diagnosis. Down the road it was decided that it was stress induced over active vagus nerve, and/or ptsd. I had gone through a very stressful situation right before my first episode. When I had my first episode, it was during a long blood draw. I had had many blood draws and never liked them, but this one my body just couldn't take the stress anymore and I passed out repeatedly on the blood draw table. I was taken home to 'recover', but I passed out again, my pulse was 'thready' and weak, I was hardly breathing either. I shook like a seizure. I was taken by ambulance to the ER. I would wake up bawling and panicked. I would be exhausted for days after each episode. It went on for probably a year, and then it stopped happening regularly. After having my first baby I was sleep deprived and had a few minor episodes. Still to this day if I get extremely stressed out physically or emotionally I physically shake, and stay present but cant respond. If I spike a fever this also happens to me. I hope and pray that Carlin has a similar story, that she can get a diagnosis that has a cure or a way to control this, or that it miraculously stops happening. I will be praying for her!!

I'm sorry to hear the account but glad you have some success about your situation. Stress can take its toll in so many ways - whether physically, emotionally even spiritually. Christians have a battle with forces unseen Ephesians 6:12-18. And we are in a very interesting time these days, to say the least.
