    I’m thinking of starting this Spring 2022; problem is I’m almost 40! I know people always try to be positive and say “you can do anything!” But when it comes time to apply for jobs, I’ve noticed most are requiring 1-3 years experience. How can I get that experience right out of school? Do the clinicals at school count as some real world experience? Thank you so much! I want out of my dead end job. I’ve done customer service for 20 years and while I like helping people I realize I could be doing in a more compassionate way and not getting yelled at because someone doesn’t know how to use a computer. LOL

    i am planning on starting prereqs in the Fall for sonography...i was wondering do the actual ultrasound techs (say you’re working on a pregnant patient) get to tell the patient what gender the baby is? or does the actual doctor? this may be a stupid question lol just wondering...i’m so excited to get into this field!!

    • @scarletelizabeth8151

    Hi Scarlet, I really liked your video. I'm a current sonographer student, I just finished my first general OB/Gyn rotation. I will soon be starting my second ration at an MFM site. I have not had time to study OB pathologies in detail due to the amount of studyings I'm putting into General and GYN. Do you have any advice for me on what to review/study or how to best prepare for my MFM rotation?

    • @scarletelizabeth8151
      @scarletelizabeth8151  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @reynamoreno-sanchez hi! thanks for watching :) honestly, I did not really prepare for my MFM rotation besides what I had learned from class. You learn so much while you're there experiencing it first hand, so I would say not to stress about studying & preparing for it beforehand.

    • @reynamoreno1565
      @reynamoreno1565 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Scarlet Elizabeth You’re welcome, thank you for the feedback. One more question, I’m currently able to complete fetal surveys in 40-45 min. What is the average time sonographers take to complete a fetal survey at your MFM site? I’m a little concerned of my FS timing.

    • @scarletelizabeth8151
      @scarletelizabeth8151  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @reynamoreno-Sanchez that’s awesome!! Are you talking about a full level two anatomy scan? Because I would say the techs definitely do it within that time. Don’t be so hard on yourself, you sound like you’re ahead of the game.

    • @reynamoreno1565
      @reynamoreno1565 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Scarlet! Sorry I just saw your reply. I’m not sure what a full level two anatomy scan is. We just go by complete fetal survey. What is a level 1 and level two anatomy scan?.... The site I’m currently at does a lot of OB so I got lots of normal OB practice but I must say General for me especially the right liver lobe is a bit harder than scanning OB!

  • @pranksNdares

    I am a junior in high school who is very interested in the ultrasound tech career. I have been watching videos and researching online. I just went to my first meeting at my local community college for their Sonography Program. Now I can’t lie, the women at this meeting put a really bad taste in my mouth about the career which really made me second guess myself. The girls who are currently in the program said that they have no life and that the schooling is harder than those who are going to school to become a doctor or engineer. They also said that you use a lot of physics and anatomy, something that in high school is hard for me now- making me wonder if I would even be capable of making it into the program. I heard them tell stories that they lost relationships because of how time consuming the program is and that their only free time is to do necessities like showering. At my college it is only a 16 month program so yes it seems like working extremely hard for 16 months is worth it but they also said that you’ll be working 5 days a week, 8-12 hours a day and then end up working over time and on falls on your days off. This sounds very overwhelming and stressful. I know it’s a lot of hard work but the way these girls in the program described it made it seem like they did not think it was worth it. How accurate is all this?

    • @scarletelizabeth8151
      @scarletelizabeth8151  4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Hi! So I’m not going to lie, it is time consuming but that’s like any program! Between classes, lab, clinical and homework, there’s a lot to do but it’s all about time management. Once you get yourself into a routine, you’ll be fine. I can tell you that it is NOT like going to school to be a doctor or engineer!! At least my program wasn’t. I don’t think they should make you feel so discouraged. I struggled in high school and then I did really well in this program, so don’t feel discouraged. It will def have to be your top priority and a big part of your life, but you will still have a life!!

      Junie R what type of math is it, like algebra 1, algebra 2!? I’m taking my pre requisites now for the program so I think this would be the best time to study math ❤️ thank u for replying!

    • @jennom2195
      @jennom2195 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Alyssa-sy3om It's more along the lines of algebra. You should definitely know how to convert fractions to decimals through long division (and by hand because they won't let you use a calculator haha). You should also know how to isolate the variable in an equation. For instance 7=5/x. You would need to know how to isolate that x. Also converting! You'd need to know how to convert..let's say...10 Gigahertz to kilohertz (there is a VERY easy way to do this and they teach it to you in ultrasound. It's all about knowing where to move the decimal and how many spaces.) Of course you need to know how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide. :) I'm trying to think if there is anything else...Oh! Knowing what squared and cubed means. It's pretty basic. Nothing too hard or impossible to learn. The teachers in my program even gave me a refresher on how to do long division by hand so always remember that if you get stuck, your teachers and fellow peers will help! :) :) and honestly we don't calculate TOO much. Whatever we do calculate is just plugging numbers into the formula and solving. :) It's more about understanding the relationships between concepts. I hope that helps! Feel free to ask away if you have any more questions! I'd be happy to help! :)
