WHY WOULD YOU CUT IT THERE?! That was one of the BEST performances of that I've heard! Do you KNOW how hard it is to herd brass, let alone get all FIVE trumpets in tune and in unison like that? Lord, put up the whole damn thing....!!!
See Drum Corps International or DCI to hear some fantastic young talent perform this and many other Copland compositions while marching and maneuvering in competitions around the U.S., specifically Carolina Crown 2012 performance called “For the Common Good”, which features the “Fanfare For the Common Man” in their competitive production. If you liked the sound of 5 trumpets, try 35 in an outdoor environment with all the challenges of performing in tune, in time and being spatially distanced while executing various drill formations. You just might like it,or at least learn to appreciate another art form expressing the soul and spirit of Aaron Copland’s composition.
I've been playing Trumpet for 60 years - this is as close to perfect as it comes... much better than Bernstein and the NY Philharmonic's version - Perfect Technique
If anything, the absence of polyphony suggests that the composer is suggesting that the common man is a simpleton. In no way am I suggesting that the common man is a simpleton. I’m saying the composer is saying that by way of the simplicity of the composition.
The opening theme is one of those perfect combination of notes that every composer dreams of writing. It's one of those pieces that you can't imagine not knowing, and which every composer when hearing it for the first time would kick themselves for not thinking of it.
This is the sound of The United States - Majestic and Proud.. just the right intervals and articulation - Much more patriotic than those other songs... I stand proud with this fanfare
They have a distinctly "British" flair; subtle, maybe even understated, yet always on point when it comes to "The Point." And soo many citizens of the world do seem to miss The Point, sometimes including me. Hey at least I'll admit when I'm wrong 🙂 I may be an American, but my parents taught me better than that! 😉
Marvelous Brazilian Musicians playing an American Composer's Music in a London Concert Hall! 😊 Music for Everyone! Thanks BBC ! I really appreciate this.
For everyone complaining about the tempo, try playing the 1st trumpet part!! Also, so much purity and beauty in the sound of this trumpet section! Truly wonderful! ..and yes I wish it didn't cut out in the middle of the piece.....
+samsing2300 I agree with you on the 1st trumpet part being a pain in the chops, believe me, I've played it. But if there's one thing I've learned from Herseth, it's not about how it feels, its how it sounds. Even though it is a beast to play for the brass, it should be reverent and majestic, not too fast.
First trumpet is for leaders, which by your statement as proof, you are clearly not. Out of my way you go... all the way to 3rd trumpet. Thanks for the support.
Yes, why would they fade it out? Did they not realize the majesty, solemnity and power of this instrumental. The horns were magnificent. This piece has had the power to move men!
They cut off the last 15 seconds so they can call this a promo! The best part of the song. Up until then it was the best rendition I can recall of the Fanfare. Whatever they are selling, the bad taste in my mouth says "no way".
In college, our horn player fell ill and I had to fill in playing the part on euphonium. Never felt more like my head was going to explode, but I loved it.
A primeira vez que eu ouvi essa sinfonia foi numa adaptação para March Band (banda marcial) norte americana que eu amo, chamada Carolina Crown, na final do campeonato internacional em 2012. A versão é belíssima! Recomendo
Used first half of this as a contest warm up for my middle school kids, playing the whole thing every 3 or 4 years. Great intonation in this group. This "air" teaches SO much musicality if played with attention to all there is in it. Still valuble for older groups too. Intonation a problem 3/4 of the way in....same as with my kids...but they LOVED to play this. Don't say 12/13 year olds can't hear GOOD MUSIC!
AND NOW LADIES AND GENTLEMEN! HERE HE IS, FROM STOKE ON TRENT ENGLAND, THE RECORD BREAKING, HISTORY MAKING, SIXTEEN TIMES!!! THE CHAMPION, OF THE WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORRLD!!! ITS PHIL!!! THE POWEEEER, TAAAAYYYLOOOR!!!!!!!!

This the dumbest performance I have ever seen. One a scale of 1 to 10 this has got to be a minus 10! 👎👎👎🇨🇦
It's the time of the Elites now-we have squandered our opportunity

Might find it - in full - on BBC iPlayer.
It was included on BBC 2 - 60 Years of Classics (broadcast in April 2024)😊
Why would anybody fade out the ending to this magnificent piece? BBC?
MORONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cause they're idiots.
Kinda short, but it still gave me goosebumps and made me cry at the same time.
Copland knew.
That's America.
Really like Copland's music. No one (in my opinion) manages to evokes the amazing wilderness of the US quite like he does.
Yes it really does make you feel like you're in the wild west and I'm in san diego lol
I would say "Grand Canyon Suite" by Grofe does a pretty good job.
I think so too, but I also think the New World Symphony is in this category as well.
It's a tribute to the common man, the unsung hero of everyday life. No one is more important than anyone else.
That is until the workers at the sewage plant go on strike for a living wage.
I’m more important than you.

@@concerned1 I’ll bet you don’t consider yourself a common man despite you being the most average common person around.

So true!!!
Yes!
And the trumpets play the opening with such precision!

@@mikemcgibney my thoughts exactly. I mean if I closed my eyes, it sounded like one trumpet! That was amazing
The BBC Proms are some of the best performances of works to ever be broadcast - no pretence and the excitement of entertainment always!
Excepting the New York Philharmonic

Jeez! Why would you fade out such a magnificent work, and when so superbly played? What is wrong with you?!
ELP's version is so amazing, I can't hear the orchestral version without hearing Emerson's playing in my mind.
Keith Emerson liked this music so much, he named his son Aaron.
There's a live version you might wanna look up...
Rest in peace, Keith...@@lucyfoster4082

I prefer trumpets in C [no transpotition] to those in B-flat.

samsing2300 ,
And it's still too fast. Harder to play it right...slower.
Yes, why would they fade it out? Did they not realize the majesty, solemnity and power of this instrumental. The horns were magnificent. This piece has had the power to move men!
Super brilliant playing!!!!!! Best. Very musically!!!!! Thank you San Paolo master musicians!!!
Belíssimo!! Parabéns aos músicos da Orquestra do Estado de São Paulo. Brasil.
I remember listening to this as a kid, it was the 1st piece of music I'd heard that made my spine tingle.
jesus, what's wrong with you? you can't cut it off there
absolutely brilliant playing btw
BBC doesn't want Common Man to get too cocky
No shit ! WTF ?!?!?!?
They probably have limited license to publish the free version..... you probably can buy the full version for a minimal cost all you CHEAPSKATE 🤔 S
Don’t you dare disrespect my Jesus I love him
Yeah I was RUH ROH RAGGY!
I agree! There are still several beats yet to play!
We played this song at the opening of my school's Inner Games, at the entrance to the torch. I got goosebumps
Brilliant performance of a brilliant composition. I can’t believe they didn't finish it. I feel cheated…….
Agreed
Un video meraviglioso che ancora oggi fa scorrere lacrime di tristezza e di orgoglio!
One of the single greatest pieces of music.
Absolutely! If that doesn't get your ticker started you're not alive!

Maestra Alsop is one of the best conductors in the world. This version is fantastic largely because of her. Brava!! Great performance!!
Thank you again and again. Playd in one music frase. Brilliant musicians!!! Absolut fanastic teknicaly. Very sad that so short.
This music hardwires my ears to my eyes... every single time.
In college, our horn player fell ill and I had to fill in playing the part on euphonium. Never felt more like my head was going to explode, but I loved it.
A fantastic tune for times of stress
Beautiful piece of music
What a tragedy to end this piece like this !
For you Arthur Labinjo Hughes you poor child who suffered when you should never have done so. May you rest in peace.
For all the hard working Joes and Joannes who don't make a fuss yet help their neighbours and contribute quietly to society.
We Salute You.
Best music composition of all time
Now way! The Eroica by Beethoven 🙂
Marvelous. Sarah Willis - impeccable techniche and intèrpretation.
I really dont like videos that cut off the end. The music is beautiful.
damn it cut out right when they were transitioning into "We Will Rock You" by Queen
Well played, TH-cam is a great recourse when you are trying to learn a tune. Please keep posting👍

It's not like this is an overlong piece. Why would you cut off the recording before the end?
Best trumpet intro I’ve ever heard
E pensar que a primeira vez que eu ouvi essa sinfonia foi numa adaptação de uma banda de rock progressivo, Emerson, Lake & Palmer!

Eu também.... é um épico da música mundial!
What a magnificent tribute to the nation I adore.
And out Come Altrincham FC, this is our anthem. It's a wonderful piece.
Wow, those trumpets were so together in the beginning that it sounded like one big trumpet
Also great to see Eddie Izzard getting some work as a conductor
Good evening from Athens. I’m Bob Costas and welcome to the 212th day of what seems to be a never ending summer Olympic event.
I like this music, this was Band and the Orchestra playing.
I think of all the young American, British and Canadian soldiers that stormed the Normandy Beaches when I hear this anthem!
Ugh! Why would they cut it like 20 seconds until the end! I was feeling all inspired n' stuff...

I am sure Sir Henry would not have approved of this appalling fade out of such a well played and wonderful piece of music.
A female conductor for the BBC PROMS. What a real inspiration. My band student will be watching this.
Beautiful!!!
fantastic
Excellent that there is a space for culture these days, very good action to push the BBC currently art.
Love the percussion. THE GONE KICKS ARSE.
Gorgeous presentation! I'm so proud that we have some super talented people to represent Brazil in the classical music around the world.
Hi0505 Brazil is represented as sucking in everything.
AND CARL PARLMER PLAYS THE DRUMS IN THIS TUNE AND HE WAS A GREAT ONE 😁
Trumpets are tight....Nice work guys
Great piece.
Fantastici,senza parole
Can certainly hear the relics of this wonderful piece in some of John William's compositions, particularly in 'Summon the Heroes'.
I guees a listener either perceives the music of John Williams as derivative or as merely influenced. Take your pick.
This is a great song I love it
It isn't a 'song' because there are no lyrics. It's a 'instrumental' work. Get it?
