You're the kind of guy that usually has his mind made up and probably won't accept a suggestion but I would pull all those stumps out of the ground that you can get out because you'll never be able to plow your ground or till you're ground if you want to because those stumps will be in the way. I would also take this opportunity to make brush piles on the property in hidden places for your small critters rabbits squirrels deer turkey everything likes brush piles including your predators bobcats and coyotes and everything it all works together

I dig the log splitter hopper. No bending over. Just drive up. Less "handling". No need fir Melissa, unless you want some company
Them sticks could make a great frame for solar pole barns. Shelter yir gear and generate power. 15-20,000 square feet of panels = Morgan Power Company $$$$. Yeah, a check in the mail, every month. Here in Colorado, we got a 12KW solar panel, inverter, etc. installed at zero cost. It'll take ~7 years to pay for itself...then the power generation $ will be all ours! .......Or not, and just say that we did.
Yeah, it's warming up. More sunshine. But supposed to be a blizzard on Wednesday. Ugh! I sure miss the beautiful weather in Southern California...but not the crowds.

You should be looking into a walenstein log trailer, and then you won't need to buck up the wood in the timber and handle it twice. You should be able to get it cheap for ad time since you have the walenstein log winch to hook it to.

Interesting land clearing project. Surprised ,as a retired blasting expert you didn't consider blasting out the larger stumps. We have used that method here, but our trees seem to root deeper and firmer in our Illinois soil. Blasting usually cleans the root system pretty completely. This will be a LARGE project and keep you busy for quite a while. I look forward to the videos.

I have done an orchard in the woods for the same purpose, help the wildlife, I would recommend planting a variety of apple trees, they all ripen slightly different times and disease will not effect all varieties. Plant a few crab apple trees too, they are a huge help because they are a great pollinator

If you know any arborist that would dump woodchips for you (I get mine all free), spread 6-10 inches everywhere you plan to plant the orchard. It will act as a mulch / fertilizer / weed preventer for you. Overtime (1-2 years pending dampness) it will decompose to humus and fruit trees love growing in that medium.

Mike, it’d be neat if you were to draw a rough picture of just where this flat spot is on the property. Using Google Earth one could orientate your drawing to be able to see right where that flat spot is located relative to the other spots of structures, for example the sawmill , house and such.

Mike if you keep your angle cut to the bottom the butter the tree will hit the ground first and cause less cracks through the tree with the angle cut on the top the top of the tree always hits the ground first and sends a shock wave through the tree doesn't matter for firewood keep that in mind for trees you're going to cut you want the butt of the tree to hit ground first by putting you under

My maternal grandfather’s farm was located in SW Pennsylvania, Green County. I was told his grandfather homesteaded it. The ground was not very good for farming. The only level ground was the ridgeland and the bottomland. The rest was steep and dangerous to run equipment on. He had one particularly nice meadow on a broad ridge. The land you are working right now reminds me of that ridge. At one point in history, someone, I suppose my great grandfather, built a fenceline right down the middle of that ridge. Removing that grownup fenceline was a summer/fall project for me uncle and I one year. We could never figure out why someone would have fenced the beautifully broad, flat ridge in half. Thanks for the great content. Doug

Glad to see you doing your part to save the ozone with your excavator! Good man! You are becoming quite the chainsaw arteest with your ability to drop trees. When you were dropping the stumps to clean them up, I thought it was "raining" stumps for a few minutes😊. You need to develop a vibrating clamp for shaking those stumps loose of all the soil. If I can get a small fee for that suggestion after you sell them, I'd certainly appreciate it😨😨. On the fire starter, keep the masses hungry for it and don't worry about running out. Unless you're going to really gear up production, you can only put out so much. Good video as always. Yea, this winter has been relatively mild, except for those 7 or 8 days of sub zero temps and some snow in Dec. I use to travel in your area at times as a log buyer, so I know how lousy PA winters can be. I'm about 20 N of Dayton, OH so we have some of the same. Look forward to your updates on this project. You're living the dream most of us wish we could. You earned it, so enjoy, Ron

Maybe a helpful hint.. For cutting those small branches and suckers off of the trees your cutting down , try using your battery powered chain saw. It's far lighter and easier to move around then your big gas saw. I use a 14 inch Makita and won't be with out it when cutting fire trees for fire wood. It's been a few years now but I remember both your and your wife using one.

I'm looking forward to seeing your future food plot. But, I don't understand why you want to bring in a stump grinder when you have a excavator? You will wish you pulled as many roots as possible when you get around to making a seedbed. Bring in a big chipper if you don't want to burn the stumps..

  • @markpontes4457
    @markpontes4457 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I think a lot of those trees you could just reach up high with the excavator and push them over then the root will just pop out of the ground and cut them up and just pick up the root.

Those vines with all of the hairy attachment to the tree bark are often Poison Ivy, but are always in the way. They can be hard to peel off. Those and grape vines can be hard on the trees, and I have started to cut a couple of inches out to kill vines on trees near my paths. I was just looking at some wind blow downs at the top of one of my hills and watching you with the mini Ex that would be just the ticket.

Something you might want to consider with some of your brush piles, Cover them with some of that beautiful top soil you have and grow your own fruits and veggies. Hugalculture. The brush will rot over time creating nutrients for a garden. Also does not have to be food, could be for flowers or food plots for game.

    Hello! 🙂
Equipment that does regeneration cycles normally perform them based on hourly use cycles. So it is good to take a note of what the hour meter reads when a regen occurs. That way you can predict when the next one will happen. Otherwise it will sneak up on you at the most inconvenient time. Llike when you are in a time pressure. I do this with my dump truck because keeping a record allows me to know when to expect it but also if the cycle is short it can be an indication that the DPF or the DOC needs cleaning.
Also keep track of how long the regen procedure takes. This could also be a harbinger of needed maintenance.

Mike, I am local to you and would love to trade you a dump trailer load of firewood poles (cherry and maple) for a couple of maple saw logs. Thanks, Rob

Mike you need one of those log trailers you can pull behind your utv or tractor. Then you could haul 16' to 20' logs up to your processing area.

My experience with the stumps unless you can grind them down a foot or more they will always come back to haunt you when it comes to tilling just dig them up and burn them 👍👋🇨🇦

Also, dont forget about the stump roots. Just because you grind the stump the roots are still present which can be very problematic.

Mike you know the stumps come out a lot easer when you push the tree over then cut the stump off.

Mike, In order to make the whole operation more efficient, would it be possible to have the large tractor haul the dump trailer to the site, and then with the trees held up by the excavator, cut the rounds directly into the trailer...Just a thought for consideration...Regards Robin.

Even his smaller tractor ought to pull the trailer ok

I wouldn't grind anything. I'd mark the stumps with orange paint, and use the excavator to just dig them out, maybe 10 a day or so.

i believe you use the Excavator the most out of all your equipment. Not fair, most of us have tractors or/and skid loaders. I commented to my wife how Mike Morgan has an Excavator and I need one, she's threaten to take away my lap top. Now I live vicariously through you Thanks

Great to see the new clearing project. STUMP GRINDER=$$$$$. Restricted ability to grow new plants over ground up stump. Must remove wood chips. PUSH DOWN LARGE TREES AND STUMPS WITH EXCAVATOR=$ fuel cost. Unrestricted ability to plant new plants over smoothed over stump location. Something to consider. Havaday

😭 All those poor trees, I can hear them screaming while you were .. oh, wait … never mind, that was your Stihl. The area looks better all ready. I can see that as the future wood processing center/ fruit orchard. Better get busy building a roadside stand. 😁👍🏻

you have a digger use it, I root wad all my trees make it a lot easier to get the stump out and git the dirt off. I have a Leading Edge Attachments Fang Rake. Really like it, doesn't have the braces between the teeth sure is a time saver. Will handle anything my 307E can dish out.
