    Androgyny is the easiest part to pull off - I'm more impressed about the fact that Pat could be anywhere between 14 and 40 and pass as anything from biracial Jewish/Slavic to Hispanic.

    • @wylier
      @wylier 3 ปีที่แล้ว +33

      Nor could Pat's parents. They dressed Pat in purple, for the longest time. When it came time to change for gym class, Pat avoided the locker room. Pat instead changed into 'gym clothes' in the stairwell, due to body shame. When prom time came around, Pat went with 'A.J.' - "the total package", according to Pat. They were voted Prom King and Queen! It took them almost a whole hour to figure out who would get which crown. :-P

    • @unrellated
      @unrellated 2 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Actually, they released a movie in 1994 staring Pat, and the opening scene was in the delivery room. The doctor did know what the baby was, but got called to an emergency elsewhere in the hospital before he could say it out loud, and ran off saying "look for yourself."
      Incidentally, that scene is also how I know exactly what Frances's gender is.

      I remember when this was new, I was kinda wondering why SNL suddenly did this character (which you couldn't do now). My guess is they knew what the next big social push would be in about 15 years. Like "The Simpsons" SNL used to be very prescient. But they sure f*cked up when they threw President Trump under the bus in a very heavy-handed way. Idiots.

    I made a costume and was Pat for Halloween back in the late 90s or early aughts. I went to a bar that had dancing. I swear, the bar tender gave me a free drink and a lady invited me to dance with her and her husband. Then I was literally running down the street because people were screaming “PAT!!!”
    I stayed in character, and it was a compliment to my costume, but damn. 😂

    Pat never explicitly states that Pat's non-binary (nor cisgender nor transgender for that matter), but the true humor comes from the fear from others that don't know how to interact with someone without first knowing their gender.
