  • Hello and welcome! In this tutorial we'll be going over how DNS functions and how to configure this on a MikroTik device. We will also be looking at the system clock and configuring an SNTP client as well as different common ports that may be used for network connectivity.

Thank you for the awesome video ! I have a question regarding DNS server in Mikrotik: If you have both servers and Dynamic servers under /ip dns ( let's assume "allow remote requests" is enabled ), when you ping from your PC (get ip address from MT dhcp-server) , which DNS server it will use ? if you ping in the MT router, which server it will use ? Thank you !

Hello there, in theory the DHCP Clients will receive whatever DNS server you have specified in the DHCP-SERVER settings to be sent out in the /ip dhcp-server networks menu. We're almost in Module 2 where I will cover DHCP and can give some demonstration of this as well :) Your MikroTik itself will primarily use whatever DNS servers you specify. If you manually set 8.8.8.8 as the first DNS server then that's what the MikroTik will use. If you have no server set, but you are obtaining a DNS dynamically then the MikroTik will use that for resolution.

Time protocol on port 37 is Microsoft’s time service. Port 123 is the correct port for NTP.

Chateau LTE18 ax seems to only have NTP - can't find SNTP on it. Is that because of the Router OS version 7.8 it currently has on it?

Yes it seems like MT had updated it to just be NTP

Can you do a Capman Video? I have a hex POE and two cAP ac but for the life of me I can not get them to work on capman.

Awesome video! Could you do one for VLANs, in depth? (where devices are connected directly to the router, without the managed switch in between)

Great suggestion! Will see if I Can get to it once I finish off the MTCNA course :)
