College classmates have said Lauren was a horrible person, a bully, made fun of disabled or fat people. There's a video of her mocking the way deaf people talk. Sounds like she was bully from a very young age and never changed. She only surrendered after the police came to her parents' house looking for her. Barbara seemed like a lovely person and was loved by so many. This should never have happened to her.

One would hope such evidence and testimony will be permitted at the trial (if there is one). The jury needs to understand that this may have been an accident, but it was not an innocent one.

i went to our mutual friends dorm (this is the friend who introduced me to paz) and told her what happened, and she said "wait that must be the same guy who dumped his heroin kit on my counter earlier this morning" and i said "well i guess prison didnt help him huh?" but i was super disturbed because i had just met paz maybe 2 days prior to ask me to accompany her to do that was super weird to me. she had this weird thing about her where she treated you like a super close old friend even after just minutes of knowing her.

Charging and sentencing are not the same. The lawyer isn't arguing how long she should get. He's arguing that murder shouldn't fit based on her actions. The sentencing doesn't come in until after a conviction. By the way, if the prosecutor cannot prove the charges beyond a reasonable doubt, she goes free completely. If her actions cannot successfully be measured up to the level of the crime she's been charged with, double jeopardy sets in, and she walks completely free without any jail time at all. Basically, you should be concerned with the charge the prosecutor has chosen to pursue. There are other possible charges that would've fit better (i.e., manslaughter). But because the prosecutor set the bar so high, it's all or nothing. Either she's convicted or she goes free. No second chances in trying someone for the same action.

Her actions (starting in 2nd grade) are important examples of how she learned early on (in the house of the King of Cesspools) that having money meant not having to take responsibility for her actions. Why else would a grown woman hide her phone, cancel social media and run home to daddy for protection? On the other hand, the grandson of the elderly woman that died (also raised in a comfortable lifestyle) continues to make his grandmother proud by his actions. His upbringing has taught him to be fair even to the person that is charged with the death of his loved one. It just goes to show you that there are some things that money cannot buy.

Her actions were not on accident, as if she accidentally ran into her, no she purposely sought her out, yelled profanity at her and attacked her. The taxi theory makes sense. A woman came after me and slapped me when I took “her” parking spot at Trader Joe’s. I did not know she was waiting for that spot, and I would have moved if I’d known. She needed that spot more than I did, apparently. After she slapped me, as I was dialing the police, she drove off. I still got my shopping done. The situation stills bugs me, though, because I honestly had no idea she was waiting for the spot and I never would have taken it if I’d seen her. She appeared to be driving out of the aisle, turning right (not left, into the spot) and she did not have her directional on. I was a harried Junior High teacher with a 7 year old and a 2 year old in the back seat. She parked her car where it was, yelling the B word at me and charging at me, while I looked around trying to figure out who she was yelling at. She didn’t give me a chance to apologize.

I agree. I’d be open to a different explanation if she would’ve stuck around & tried to help the woman…maybe she “bumped into her,” 83 year old women can be frail. All the more reason to HELP them, ideally before you knock them down. She didn’t even bother to stop, she knew something had happened at an intersection she’d just been at…I can’t imagine she didn’t know it could’ve been her doing. But she ran. Didn’t talk to paramedics, ask about Barbara, or provide context in case they could’ve given Barbara targeted aid. It’s extremely disturbing. Maybe she thinks she’s some kind of important because she goes to fashion shows in Manhattan. Reality - she was a middle class cashier. The only reason she was middle class was her dad’s family business (good on her dad for being a hard worker, nothing wrong with that) & money from her fiancés dad who bought their home (who was possibly an immigrant or son of an immigrant, good on him too). Not to knock the fiancé, the way Dr Grande put it, I’m guessing their physical altercation on March 10 was all her (if he was hitting her 911 would’ve prolly been called by a witness). Frankly he dodged a bullet with her going to prison (maybe literally).

Adult human beings know that the elderly are physically different from people in their 20s. We know that their balance isn’t as good, their muscles are weaker, they have less ability to react quickly to catch themselves when they fall, and their bones may also be weaker. On top of all that, the elderly tend to have some pre-existing conditions hat can cause even further problems when they fall. This is why as a culture, we do not pick on the elderly. We try to protect them. We don’t bully them. I would argue that she knew that pushing and elderly person could cause more damage than pushing a 20 something person. I hope the jury takes that into consideration. She knew she had much more power over this woman and she used that to her advantage to harm knowing she couldn’t retaliate.

I have had occasions where I opened a cab door and was either pushed aside or someone climbed in as though as was opening it for them and my impression was that they thought they were being clever and that they felt that they were entitled to do this because I was not able to stop them. What they did not realize is that I gave up the cab because I value my life and I try to be reflective about my conduct for many reasons. The victim was 87 years old. Even if she wanted to retreat or let go for safety she would not have demurred fast enough for ms Pazienza’s liking. I am glad that this criminal was caught even as it probably will not provide much solace to this sparkling and generous woman’s family and friends.

good thought on possible motive.. just a random out of the blue attack, while possible, seems just weird in this case. Had to be some sort of previous argument or something. Not that it lessens the seriousness of the crime, but I like logical posts that try to understand motives.

I remember seeing this story. My takeaway is that it's really important that we don't let bad moods, short tempers, or temporary states of mind allow us to engage in this kind of behavior. This woman was just in a bad mood but she made a decision under that state that changed her life forever and ended the life of someone else. She had a bad day, and her victim had an even worse one.
One bad day is the only thing that separates us from the prison and the morgue. Just remember that. We must maintain control. This kind of thing is not so different from road rage and lots of people have died or killed someone from not being able to control their emotions while driving.

Yes and you should have pepper spray and maybe , MAYBE if you train with it and know it like the back of your hand , maybe think about carrying a small .22 on you just in case of the worst. Because I watch a lot of true crime and there’s so many women walking by themselves getting attacked but one or two men , which can easily over power a woman. Pepper spray is not always good enough . And a knife won’t do anything unless you have some skill in fighting and self defense, but against two people you would need to already be a badass to have a knife be anything worthwhile. But a gun can stop one or two men, plus it’s loud and would bring attention just by shooting it . Im only going on and on like this because I have a sister and that shit scares me.

    • @pembrokelove
      @pembrokelove 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

@@justincraig398 I would edit some of this, but mainly the knife. Unless you are like ninja level of skill, it is more likely that you will be disarmed and stabbed yourself. The problem with being attacked is that you aren’t prepared for it. Even being trained in self defense doesn’t help much unless you continue to train, otherwise you lose in those first seconds of shock.
I am by no means saying that someone shouldn’t train to protect themselves - I’m saying that you can’t take one self defense class and call it good or, worse, wield a weapon for which you have no expertise.

Do it. Sign up. It is important to take your safety into your own hands, and taking Control of your own health and well being is always a good thing. After the self defense class, my main suggestion isn’t to arm yourself (unless you have trained extensively and effectively in using that weapon AND are 100% sure that you could end another persons life), but rather to keep conditioning training and taking defense classes at regular intervals. The best way to protect yourself is to remain primed; the biggest advantage an average attacker has over you is not weaponry*, size, or strength; it’s the element of surprise. The few seconds they get is all they need to take the W. If you respond immediately, you are taking that element of surprise from them and turning it on them.
*obviously if you’re in like a mass shooting or something, the element of surprise is a no brainer… in that case, just run, hide, and fight only if you have no other option at all.

Head injuries and broken bones could initiate a cascade of medical decline that is very difficult to recover. I noticed her mainly because she was screaming into her phone which you could hear all the way down the block. I was headed for the little French bakery (really small place) and couldn't tell where all the yelling was coming from. Just as I reached the door, she was tucked (sitting) in the door stoop right next door. I didn't go into the shop as I was curious about what she was yelling about and she was about my daughters age. I almost approached her to calm her down and ask if I could help her but she was a little bit unhinged and I thought better of it. This girl has mental problems.

Big disagree with Dr. Grande on this one. She should get way more than 12 years. She’s an adult who encountered a woman who is obviously elderly. You have to know that shoving someone as hard as she apparently did could result in their death or at the least a very serious injury. The fact a person could do that for no reason, or some slight reason, is enough for them to be in prison for a long time. This isn’t stealing or getting into a fight with someone your own age. She’s entitled, privileged, and thinks she can do what she wants. I hope she gets the max if they find she did this.

I agree with you, but if the law says she had to intend to do serious physical harm, it may be a hard sell to a jury. We don't know if she knew the victim was old, considering she came from behind. And as Dr. Grande said, usually a reasonable person wouldn't believe that a push would end up with the victim dying. I just have a bad feeling that she is going to get off, or that the prosecutor will lessen the charge in order to make the likelihood of getting guilty charge almost 100%.

People need to learn how to control their emotions. The first response should not be to hit or push. It sounds like Lauren, was in a bad mood when she came across Barbara. Barbara, may have been moving too slow for her and she, pushed her out of her way. I can't wait to see how she's punished. It's well within your constitutional rights to remain silent and not consent to a search. Obstruction is a TV show charge that is often cited in police reports and almost never proven. Your home is your castle. I don't fault him for protecting his daughter for what many if not all fathers would probably view as an accident.
It's clear we don't really know what happened. Everyone loves to throw rich people under the bus, particularly entitled ones that have qualities that make them not very likeable.
Witness testimony is extremely unreliable. We can't necessarily be sure she called her a bitch or that the push was intentional. If she was so dangerous how does she make it all these years without anything else serious happening. It's not like old people can't be aggressive too.

Dr. Grande's sense of humor seems to be increasing to the benefit of many of us. I believe Dr. Grande and many comments hit it on the head: a spoiled privileged young girl who never grew up and got past puberty to realize that her bullying not only hurts those that are weaker, but that some day it could come back to bite her in the ass. She carried those bad habits thru her young adulthood and took it out on those that she could.... I would like to point out that I have come across accomplished elder woman (I believe the victim is an renown voice coach) who can be an older version of Lauren with attitude. Not saying the victim was like that, but normal people don't push the elderly and call them b**** unless provoked in at least a tiny manner. My suspicion is that the elderly lady said or did something very minor to this immature young girl.... On a positive note, this incident may have saved the fiancée years of grief.
