Every Opening Titles to The Flintstones

  • I always wanted to try my hand at making something like this.
I'm of the opinion that The Flintstones is one of the greatest cartoons ever made. And it's opening titles sequence was updated a few times during its run from 1960 - 1966. So I grabbed my complete series DVD boxed set, and decided to compile them all.
    0:00 - The Intro
0:23 - Season 1 & 2: This version may come as a shock to some. It was a shock to me when I first fired up my DVDs. The season 3 intro replaced this one for syndication packages, but it was restored in the 1990s for Cartoon Network reruns and home media releases.
1:32 - Season 3: The most famous opening credits! After being introduced on the 1961 tie-in album "Songs of the Flintstones," "Meet The Flintstones" officially becomes the theme song. According to Wikipedia, this version was recorded by a 22-piece big band, with vocals by the Randy Van Horne Singers, who performed most of Hanna-Barbera's theme songs at the time. The persistent rumour behind the change is that the original theme song, "Rise and Shine," was too similar to the theme song for "The Bugs Bunny Show."
2:24 - The First 6 Episodes of Season 4: With Pebbles being born at the end of Season 3, this new sequence was created to add Pebbles. As merchandising was a key part of The Flintstones from the beginning, this sequence also include a promo for the toy The Flintstones' Building Boulders. (Yes, it was an actual toy.) You'll also notice that when the foreman pulls the bird's tail, the bird's squawk has been replaced with an actual steam whistle sound effect.
3:16 - The Remainder of Season 4, and Seasons 5 and 6: Bamm-Bamm joined the show in the third episode of Season 4, so the opening titles were updated one last time to finally add the Rubbles.
4:02 - And then I decided to sync up the second, third, and fourth versions of the titles so you can see all the minor edits and differences in timing to make each version work.

Awesome show.........The Honeymooner's in cartoons. Flintstones should be on T.V. in today's world.

Wouldn't work, especially when the majority of the original voice cast's dead.

Yep! They say Fred and Wilma were modeled after Ralph and Alice respectively from the Honeymooners!

I remember watching The Flintstones a lot as a kid. I would hear amusing anecdotes from my mother how she and her family would get up every Saturday morning to watch the antics of Fred Flintstone and his adventures in Bedrock. Furthermore, my mother was born in 1960, which was the same year The Flintstones premiered. When I watched the opening credits of this lovely show as a kid, I always wondered where they were going at the end of the opening credits, and I later learned in 1993 that they were going to a drive-in theater. Coincidentally enough, I was going to the drive-in theater for the first time with my family to see Jurassic Park and Cop and a Half (the latter which was rather lousy compared to Jurassic Park...), and my older sister told me about the concept of the Drive-In, and says, "Remember what they're going to in The Flintstones?"

Baby Puss ( the saber -toothed cat) who's seen squeezed in Fred's car only appeared in two episodes.
An episode from season 2 and another from season 5.
But was seen in the closing credits of the entire run of the series.
The pet that Fred " put out for the night" and always climbed back in through the open
    "window".
Then he threw Fred out of the door and locked it.
Fred knocks on the.door waking up the neighbors while yelling WIL -MA!!
    😂😂

You missed the variant of when Hoppy ( the Rubble's kangaroo type pet) was added .
Both Dino and Hoppy pushed their heads through the top of Fred's car at the Drive- In Theater.
Then Pebbles was placed on Dino's head and Bamm -Bamm was placed on Hoppy's.
Also the movie title at the theater never changed.

So I'm not crazy then! That does exist! I have the complete series on DVD, and I made this by ripping my DVDs. I assumed that was the opening starting in season 5, because that's when Hoppy joined the show. But after watching a random sampling of episodes from seasons 5 and 6, I couldn't find it. So I assumed I was just having some Mandela effect thing going on. But now that I know that someone else has seen it, I know it must be out there somewhere!

Hoppy never appeared on the intro or the outtro but there were a couple episodes of season six that closed with Pebbles and Bamm Bamm performing 'Let the Sun Shine In' instead of the gang coming back home from the drive-in.

Pulling the bird's tail makes it either screech or do the factory whistle "Froooooon!" I prefer the Froooooon! Over the screech.

The whistle sound came from a 5-inch Porter 3-chime whistle. I prefer that as well!

There was still another variant, particularly the vocalists. Beginning in Season 5, the group was "double-tracked" to make it sound "fuller". In addition, one of the trumpets was put to the forefront to make the main theme "different" from the previous version. Why they've decided to excise it altogether is anybody's guess.

There is also a version that is used for syndicated openings (up until Pebbles was born). Channel 48 in Philly used this one. Some odd things with this one - the quitting time whistle is the horn that was used starting with the pebbles opening, and not the squawk; no honk is audible when Fred gets to the house and slams the brakes on; there is an edit in the theme song that gets the sound of Dino's popping his head through the roof out of sync. th-cam.com/video/pX-A_2ay550/w-d-xo.html
