  • If you know what sin θ is, could you calculate sin 2θ, cos 2θ, and tan 2θ? Before President ObaMATH, maybe not. But after this Commander-In-TEACH, you sure will! With the aid of our awesome Oval Office student team, we continue our exploration into trigonometric identities. Using double angle formulas, our campaign to solve trig equations is totally successful. Join in the success... YAY MATH!

Your videos are getting me through college math classes. 3 min into this video I understood what my professor couldn’t teach me in 3 hours. Thank you for doing what you do!

Christy, what a joy that you share that, and that Yay Math is in your corner while you learn. Thank you for such a positive reflection back.

wait - where are you getting the measurements for the angles (like 143, etc)? This is the first time I haven't been able to follow your figuring. :-/ help?

sin^-1(3/5) = ~36 degrees . Subtract it from 180 degrees since you're in quadrant two to get the actual angle of the line: 143 degrees . (sin inverse 3/5 is always 36 but we must determine if it is 36, 180-36 (quad 2), 270 - 36 (quad 3) or 360 - 36 (quad 4) ) to give us an answer that makes sense based off of where the actual line drawn is. Here we know the line is in the second quadrant because he draws it, we can also know based off of the bound he gives that it is in between 90

"application, not memorization" but then just writes out the formula, not teaching it. Gud job

Uncomfortable Truth Thank you for your comment. You’re right, I should’ve pointed out more clearly that I believe that teachers should give the formulas on the exam, to remove the need for memorizing them.
