    On today's adventure, we took the 2WD Tacoma with 2 other 2WD trucks to tackle a trail in the Joshua Tree National Park called Berdoo Canyon. This 10 miles trail is relatively easy with a few optional offshoots that will challenge our 2WDs. Towards the end of the trail, theres a rocky steep section that made for a great adventure as we carefully maneuver across these section.

    I wonder what its like being the guy who spends 20k extra on mods and puts his truck in 4wd just for fire roads, and then watches this video seeing the 2wd truck this gentlemen has busting this out like a boss. lol

    • @Michael_Tran
      @Michael_Tran  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Haha..while I understand the cool factor of these mods and honestly in the same boat as a lot of them. I think a lot of people under appreciate the capability of a 2WD. I think a lot of people including myself initially thought that only 4x4 can do these type of terrains. I hope that it inspired people to just go out and have fun.

    Berdoo is a great trail. I have an 05 ram 1500 2wd with a rear locker. Air down the 35s 20psi in the front & 17 psi in the rear and I didn’t have a single issue. I hit every obstacle aside from the steep sandy one.
    Your video inspired me to get out more in my truck thanks Mike!!

    I got a rather rare 2WD Ram Rebel. Essentially their pre-runner package. You would be surprised on how much you can do with air downed A/T tires and a rear locker and a touch of momentum. Not ideal for rock crawling, but very effective in most other off-roading scenarios.

    • @Michael_Tran
      @Michael_Tran  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree...I've push this thing and knows it's capability now. Would love to have a locker in the back but even with their LSD, it has gotten me up some steep, rutted terrain.

    • @gpaje
      @gpaje 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Michael_Tran Absolutely, the big Chevy Silverado Trail Boss doesn't even have a true locker, it has a GA80 limited-slip and it works just fine. A pure open differential like on my Ranger still works ok on some light trails, but I would want some buddies with me if I didn't at least have a limited-slip. Also, big props for doing all that off-roading with your 2WD, I have a good buddy with a fully loaded 4x4 TRD Tacoma, with $4,000 shock upgrade and he won't go on some rather easy fire roads :)

      @@gpaje I've seen so many guys in my area with 10k worth of suspension and it's not even dirty...they neither clean them on the daily or never take them out to see dirt haha. It's always a good idea to go with someone for sure, I've been stuck by myself twice and it can be quite nerve racking especially with no one around. some recover gears and knowledge will go a long way.

    Nice video. Those rock formations are really cool. I have a 2wd Colorado myself and I went through 8 inches of snow for about 15 miles last winter coming home from work late at night on stock tires. I will be getting Toyo Open Country A/T 3 for this upcoming winter. The stock tires are really not that good for winter. What are those blue boards called you use when you get stuck? Are they worth getting? Thanks.

    • @yeetandskeet

      Nice!..You'll be surprised at how capable a 2WD is on most of the trails. Some clearance and a good set of tires and sometime it's value in gold on occasion. Yup they are recovery boards or traction boards.

  • @lukestoyz
    @lukestoyz 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Easier to make it up these obstacles if you know how to turn off the traction control. Also put the transmission into the lowest gear to climb. Lastly air down

    • @Michael_Tran
      @Michael_Tran  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      True, I normally goes through a few try and then. use my LSD, ETC if need too

    • @lukestoyz
      @lukestoyz 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Using the LSD in sand or mud isn’t great because it is a brake based system. In those conditions you need wheel speed and it will cut throttle and apply light braking, basically limiting your ability to spin the wheels. This is why a locker is the better option

    It is not cool just using 2 wheel drive. When your rear wheels are spinning out looking for traction you are tearing up the road. The road belongs to everyone. It's not right. If you are going to do this that is great. But get yourself a 4X4 please. And please explain this to everyone once you get 4X4. Thanks.

    • @Michael_Tran
      @Michael_Tran  3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      While I agree with you on that statement. I've seen plenty of 4x4 digging the heck out of trail. I agree that trail belongs to everyone. Including guys in 4x4, AWD and 2WD

    • @shelbymoe1211
      @shelbymoe1211 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm gonna stand with Michael on this one, I have an obvious 2wd, its a lifted crown victoria. And while I havent tore up any trails(I dont go beyond my cars capabilities) I have seen plenty of inexperienced people in 4x4 tearing up the trails more than the 2wd guys. Not everyone has the skill, and not everyone can afford 4x4s. I just enjoy seeing people out there learning, driving, having a good time.

    • @LAAM619
      @LAAM619 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh stop karen, this trail gets washed out by rains all the time and erodes/changes all the time. If it belongs to everyone then that means 2wd too.
