Another great video Kirk and kudos to you for what you did with his bill.
As a spread whose always done domestic work starting 1988, I've come across some great customers over the years.
With me working for a local authority, I can't charge customers anyway, but what I can do is take the job a little bit further, offer a little bit more on the customer service for them and trying to make the whole process the best I can for them. I've received a load of praise from customers in the customer satisfaction surveys they are asked to complete and therefore had loads of corporate compliments added to my hr file for going that extra mile and having a can do attitude, rather than some who just look for an excuse not to do the job.
It's my little bit of spreading happiness back to the world 😊

Electrician here. The way you cut out that spot light is the exact way i've been doing strange size holes for year. Except i use a peice of cardboard and not tape. Its basically a make shift compass. You can mark out holes as big or as little as you like and it's perfect every time. I was so happy when someone showed me the trick years ago haha

Many plasterers wouldn't take that much time and care on this job as you did. They wouldn't make as perfect as that ready for painting. In fact I suspect many would just bodge it or turn it into a complete re-board and plaster. Great job mate, watching you work made my Friday night Newcastle Brown go down nicely.

Mate you help more than you realise. Having to do more than the mrs will let me call 'DIY' removing pebbledash, re pointing, rendering the lot. Short version, 1910s house that's been covered in damp proofing, cement and plasterboard causing no end of damp issues. Surveys came back all fine, wasn't worth the paper it was printed on, even the roof was 100 years old with 4 leaks but in 'good condition'. Going from IT to this some of your rendering videos alone have given me some really valuable pointers. Im not skint and with some guys from work we raised 7.5k for a local youth charity in April but too much work to pay for and too much distrust in cowboys. We have found every air brick sealed by a damp proofing company and after removing some cladding enough space in the brickwork I could get my hand through to the inside plasterboard. Very different using hydrated lime for everything but increasingly having more and more respect for guys doing the work you do well (I have a nipper around so im not comfortable with 20 bags of quicklime that could get damp in the garage).
I know enough to make sure it works, does what it should and is safer next winter compared to this winter for my family. But the looking good bit, lets just say im glad my other half likes the rustic look.
Keep doing what your doing dude.

Great video mate. This is the second video of yours I've watched now. I didn't really learn anything from the first video as it was just basic plastering (but you did everything how I would so it was good to see lol). But I learned two things in this one. Use battens rather than cutting back to the joist. And cutting both sides of the board, then criss crossing to break out a neat circle. Even though I have a pad saw that's a good tip for if you haven't got one. The only thing I would have done different would be to knock up the first coat really stiff (almost too stiff to use) as it's only a small patch, to speed up the setting time. Then knocked up the same gear with a little bit of water to speed things up even more. I know some people might say that is a botch job but on small areas I can get it as spot on as using two normal coats, and I take a lot of pride in my work 🙂
Edit : I posted before watching the whole video. Now I see you've knocked up the same gear lol. Top man.

Any reason as to why you used SBR instead of PVA?
Ive always been told SBR for block/brick work and PVA for internal existing plaster or over paint
Im 22 years old been doing this 5 years started in college and worked for a company used as a labourer and cheap skimmer, mostly self taught, started out on my own march last year, been watching your vids recently about tips on pricing and over coming other problems you've been a great help!
