  • East Kent Morris dance their eight-person version of The Bell from the Adderbury tradition. The dance was done inside Canterbury Cathedral as part of the Wantsum Morris Men's Hop Hoodening celebration and day of dance on September 9th 2023.
East Kent Morris was selected to dance in the cathedral as we are celebrating our 70th anniversary in 2023.

Nice to see people keeping old English traditions alive. Many people think only Scotland, Ireland and Wales have their own distinct cultures.

This is wonderful, it’s so nice to see our culture and traditions being upheld in a world where they appear to be rapidly being subsumed by other cultures and traditions not native to England

      Siete grandissimi
W le culture celtiche e la vostra antica ...
Sono milanese vero da 100 generazioni e anche noi abbiamo antichissime origine celtiche .
I nostri antenati erano i Celti Insubri

Morris dancing isn't 'Celtic' in origin.

The earliest reference is from the Burgundian court of 1427-28.
Evidence suggests the dance is of French and Flemish origin.
First recorded in England in 1448.
The morris dance developed from these early court entertainments which were quite different to what we see today.
And it is very much English.

I think there are quite a few these days. We used to be a men's side, but low numbers meant that in 2015 we went mixed and never looked back.

It just needs a few more hankies and jingly bells but its going in the right direction

    • @johnthesweeney
      @johnthesweeney  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

We normally stick with two hankies per dancers - maybe we should try more! I used to have 96 bells on my pads, but they started to hurt my shins.

"Is it possible to dance in church? Something unimaginable..." Only once a year - one dance - to mark a special occasion - the blessing of the Hops so that we can have more beer next year!
