I watch light reviews on this channels for products that I don't have any intentions of buying, but it is still interresting to see your perspectives on where which product will get used, and to see where the lighting industry is going...
As always, a great job on the review. Thanks Andrew Lock. When I first heard about the luna bulb, I ordered immediately... I work, as a gaffer, on a TV series set in the 1950s, and the luna bulbs fit 100% in the old practicals, making my life easier... I hope astera comes with an E14 model as well.
Plan on picking some of these up... the fact it looks like a normal bulb and has those attachments is huge, plus the price seems reasonable. The output is my only concern.
Great review as always, Andrew! I would love to see what is your opinion on the Amaran Ace 25c lights. I believe the price and the amount of light output puts them in a singular position on the market, and would be super interesting how they compare with the MC Pro.
TBH the wattage is not enough. Most practicals I'm running are 100w bulbs, and although on a dimmer they do sometimes need to be at 100%. I'm still disappointed that there aren't any other B22 options out there besides these.
It's so strange to me that Astera hasn't tried to tackle the battery problem and just taken that entire market from Aputure. The B7c is such a crappy fixture; but at the end of the day the internal battery is so crucial in so many situations.
Still think the « dome off option for small lamp shades » is non sense. Because they’re generally E14… Astera has put out Amazon like adapters, but they push the build up by at least 5cm. So counter productive
I have a big question. I bought 2 aputure bulbs but returned them as they would accidentally turn on when transporting them around and would get super hot. I really need controllable bulbs for my day-2-day film work but have discovered some really cheap smart bulbs on Amazon. And they are full colour/colour temp and don't flicker at low or high frame rates. Other than precise colour accuracy, why should I spend £120+ on these professional ones when cheap £12 ones from Amazon appear to do the same thing? I can get 10 of these for the price of one of them.... They're so cheap I'm confused
@@joeaddison Yeah, if that's all then I'll now stock up on cheap smart bulbs as my projects don't demand that sort of accuracy. Thanks for the response 👌

Thanks for the super in-depth video review Andrew!

Are you going to review the Aputure 1200x by chance?

Can you address each of the two pixels individually to balance the intensity of the camera side / talent side of the bulb ?
Interesting that you mentioned the power factor !
that's cool you can make them appear to be the same, these and the nyx bulbs

Tell you what I can’t live without my aputure bulbs. But they don’t look like actual bulbs
Great tx

@@filmdetective the E14 is definitely becoming more prevalent, especially if the practical lights are purchased at IKEA or Target.
@@gaffergearsure. But also, it might be a country habit to do things in a certain way. As I said, in France, the small lights come with small sockets

High colour accuracy and crmx is the price point difference. If your other led bulbs are working fine then great, these won't replace those.

its great but its biggest drawback is no battery
