Maine Veterans Project food drive! Putting food on the tables of Maine veterans!

For those of you wondering where I’ve been, I’ve been pouring my heart and soul into helping a great organization provide for the veterans of my home state of Maine. Below is a well written post from one of the founders of MVP.

Today marks the most successful food drive in MVP history. What started with the Cole Land Transportation Museum food drive, quickly gained momentum with multiple people offering to supply more. We had fellow vets (and an awesome merchant marine) giving away farm fresh meats, produce, turkeys, apples and even a gift from CSL Plasma. We had a huge volunteer turnout and here's the breakdown:
- 70 turkeys (15 sent to Machias) (Not Your Average Nurse
- 80lbs ground hamburger (Jerry aka Airborne)
- 100lbs farm raised meats (Kyle & Shelby)
- 1,800lbs Aroostook potatoes (Sunrise Seafood)
- 120 bags of fresh apples (Gathering Winds Farm & Orchard)
160 bags of non-perishable foods
Additional thanks to Dennis Paper and Food Services for supplying a cold storage truck, and the veteran driver, Chris, ran all over the place helping the operation. Without this, we'd have had a tough time transporting & giving out 70 turkeys.
