      @@TripAstute Thank you so much! I have a question. I have just been approved to drive Uber and I plan to rent from Avis. What coverage do you recommend I need as a rideshare driver?

    • @TripAstute
      @TripAstute  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't driven for Uber or Lyft, so I am not 100% sure, to be honest. However, I thought that if you rent via an Uber-approved program, the rental insurance is part of the package. Though if you end up opting to use a credit card for car rental coverage, I would check the fine print. I believe that driving for ride-sharing purposes is excluded in most cases.

    I worked at rent car company if it takes too long for the insurance to pay for damage than you and anyone on the agreement will be banned from renting from any company because they all use a business that records all info on anyones rental agreement and history you have been on

    My favourite line from a comedy act when asked if they wanted extra insurance on a rental was “yes, this car is going to see more air than a skateboard at the x-games”!! 😃

    • @TripAstute
      @TripAstute  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hahaha! I'll have to try that line the next time I rent a car! 😆

    first of all - it is not insurance - its coverage. And what folks don't realize is that if they take just the coverage to protect the vehicle - it absolutely covers the vehicle 100%. If something happens to the vehicle during the customer rental period the rental company will take the key and the customer walks away - not having to deal with a deductible from their insurance and not to mention the hustle of all the calls back and forth between the rental company and their insurance company...sure, I agree that maybe taking coverage for vehicle, passengers, luggage, and liability maybe a bit much, I still recommend taking the coverage for the vehicle. When your on vacation, your on vacation, and the last thing anyone wants to deal with is their insurance company because a deer ran out and hit you, or some idiot wasnt paying attention and runs a red light. Let the rental companies work for you, not the other way around.

    People fail to understand that your personal insurance does not like to pay for car damage that is not your personal car. They give rental car companies a hard time when it comes ro this. Your personal insurance usually does not cover loss of use. That means the time that it takes to repair the vehicle, means it can't be rented, so the company is losing money. Many people do not look at this side of things and are very misinformed.

    • @TripAstute
      @TripAstute  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for sharing! It definitely comes down to risk profile. For those that don't want to deal with the hassle and pushback from their personal insurance or credit card, it might be worth just getting the rental car insurance. 👍

    Hi thank you so much and i think this is really helpful but i do have question about my amazon prime credit card i did some research but i still cant find out if this card does have primary car rental insurace ?

    • @TripAstute
      @TripAstute  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately, the Amazon Prime credit card does not has primary car insurance. I believe the only Chase cards that have primary coverage are the Sapphire Preferred, Sapphire Reserve, United Explorer, and Ink Business Preferred.

      @@TripAstute Thank you so much for replying , so if i am using my amazon prime card on rental card and i have my own car insurance which is comprehensive one on that car , when the accident happen (due to my fault )can i just call the visa to claim and skip my own insurance on the rental car part in case my insurance monthly payment increase ,

    Thanks. I don't rent often but have found it confusing when I do. It seems like the rental car people try to push their insurance options.

    • @TripAstute
      @TripAstute  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      So true. They make it very confusing to understand whether it's needed. 😬

    • @stephenmenyfield2110
      @stephenmenyfield2110 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is best to get coverage with the rental company so there are no problems should an incident occur. Credit cards have exclusions to what they cover, which most people don't know about. I have worked at rental car companies and I can tell you that most accidents happen just being parked in a parking lot.

    What about scenario 5 - you're foreign, therefore dont have personal insurance (or have simple travel insurance) and dont have an american credit card?

    • @TripAstute
      @TripAstute  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry -- the video was geared for my primarily US-based audience. For that scenario, I would recommend purchasing some form of insurance (either through the rental car company or through a third-party) just to be safe.
