Now look at how powerful a club they have become from tough times it become a club of unity toughness and support of all aspects of life and we are all so proud of you sydney
As a passionate South follower, this was great. I understand why Sydney Was necessary. Personally ,South Melbourne died when the left the lakeside oval. Will have plenty of life time memories though.
That's great... yeh those school visits made me pick my WAFL team when I was about that age... they have an impact when you meet the players face to face
Those were the problems with the VFL. South Melbourne only had 8odd thousand at their last home game. Just can't survive on those attendances. Eventually, it came good but there were some scary times until 1996 .
Hey Travis thanks....that's a good question mate, I don't believe so but I will check my collection of discs and see if there was anything else I recorded
Interesting stuff, no major new revelations, but it's easy to see how amateurish the league was in those days. They didn't get much right, it was the love & support of the fans that kept the game thriving as demonstrated when other clubs such as Footscray, Richmond & North were saved from oblivion over the years.
It was a great move to keep the club alive. The club logo, colours & tradition were kept alive. At the back of the jersey it has SMFC is written at back. That retains the history of the club.
City has more than 5 million people plus there are fans from outside Melbourne too. The league is designed such that all clubs have a (relatively) fair shot at finals/the flag, even if a club has fewer fans/members and less money.
@@jasonwalters2466at least the club survived, for the sport and the club as a whole it was a good thing. Pity of course for those faithful fans in South.
@@fancfootyfloodbath9172 According to most refences that i have read some of these facts are incorrect or inaccurate accoding Sydney history books or history videos.

1985 to 1987 🫡🫡🫡 Nothing beats that period, and the swans chicks!!! only from the early 2000s, they came close to those highs.
👍

I'd take it with an ocean of salt
VFL didn't learn anything with the mess, Christopher Skase and the Brisbane's Bears 😅😅😅 Is there a doco on that? Cheers!

How does one city support so many teams from the same league??
Don't know

Well that's the NRL for you.
Money, the root of all evil.

Just so unfortunate South couldn't be resurrected.
Watching the doc you can see how hard people tried to keep South at South, but couldn't be done.😩
