The civil and public servants in Oyo state has been mandated to wear native attires with a touch of traditional ‘Aso Oke’ every Thursday, in addition to the existing native Friday tradition of wearing native fabrics to work.
Governor Makinde gave the directives in a circular issued from office of the Head of service, Mrs Olubunmi Oni, on Monday 27th January 2025 and was circulated to the Ministries and agencies in the State.
Makinde in the circular, maintained that the policy seeks to “showcase and preserve Oyo State’s vibrant cultural heritage and
way to preserve Yoruba culture while stimulating the local economy..
Added that incorporating "aso oke, a handwoven fabric deeply rooted in Yoruba tradition will directly benefit local weavers, dyers, and tailors.
However, stated that the initiative will help sustain livelihoods, reduce unemployment, and increase income streams for artisans.
Rulers world television news recalled that "ASO OkE". weaving is a major local business in Iseyin Oke Ogun area of the State, with variety of weaving sheds called "Idi ofi for different design and styles fabricated from the fabric called ASO OkE.
