Every time I hear this one I'm rocketed back to the summer of '76 - I'm in the aquarium store looking at fish with my dad. Thanks for the trip Paul (and JJ!)
Very fond memories of 70's Paul McCartney. My mom used to play those records all around the house when I was a kid, while my dad played a LOT of Who/Pete Townshend/Stones stuff. I was lucky!
As a LONG time (since 1968) Beatles/McCartney fan, I have to admit, this was never one of my favorite songs. When it came out, I was a bit embarrassed for Paul (even though I understood the tie-in of the song for America and for our bicentennial). Still, until I listened to this guitar arrangement and took into consideration your (door bell) observations, I never really appreciated it or even enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing your insight and for giving me a reason to appreciate this song more fully. Thanks also for ALL your great lessons and humor!!!!!
BookofIsaiah Up until last night I thought this was a lightweight song and kind of embarrassing. I got to see Paul play live here in Oslo, Norway, last night and was lucky enough to go to the soundcheck. I have to say performed live, it was the definite highlight of the ten-song soundcheck and would have been even better in the regular set. The band sounded great and you could see that beneath the surface it had a subtly sophisticated arrangement and was a great showcase for showing how talented his band is as well as what a great arranger of pop music Paul is. The groove was great and could have just gone on and on. Hopefully you can hear him play it live someday.
Awesome Robert!! I have never been to a soundcheck, that must have been amazing!! I saw Paul in 1993, when he was touring for his "Off the Ground" album, and was just blown away!!
I have always loved this song , and all of Paul's stuff, and I do believe he is this sort of musical genius, and what an amazing catalog of music he wrote with and without John. I never thought to play this with an acoustic though...great idea..on piano it is fairly easy just left hand alternating octaves very similar to many other songs of his.
I was watching Wings Over America on Palladia a few weeks ago and was remarking how there was no guitar on the live version, Denny Laine plays a drum, Jimmy McCulloch plays bass, Paul piano. I ave to go case down the studio version now to listen for the guitar.
This has always been one of my favorite McCartney songs. I'm not a 4:20 kind of guy, but I think cannabis has been a positive influence on Paul's music, as exemplified by this particular song. Not to beat a dead horse, but a lesson on REM's Feeling Gravity's Pull would be greatly appreciated. Love the lessons!
If you're playing unaccompanied, you could tune the 6th and 5th strings up a half-step to F and Bb to give yourself a little more bottom end. Also, I've seen videos where people use those weird half-capos, though I've never seen one in real life; this seems like a perfect song for one of those.
Right where Im at, I tune the 6th up to a G for another song. I wish I could do the thumb over but it just wont happen for me, I don’t know what the secret to that is.
I'm not a Buffalo Sabres fan, but I was really hoping for them to get the #1 pick. They've been down SOOOO long. Seems as if the franchise is jinxed. Al least you'll get to enjoy Jack Eickel, also an excellent hockey player.
I cannot get the initial picking part for the life of me...? I know you break it down at the end but I just can't get it right 🎸🤔 🙏 have watched it loads of times ... Great interpretation on guitar 👍
I just saw that you did Zeppelin Royal Albert Hall performance of We're Gonna Groove, do you think you can post some more songs of the RAH concert? I Can't Quit You Baby is amazing in that concert (hint hint) :)
just go on the A string at 0, D string at 6 and G string at 6, then same thing but D string at 4, then A string at 0, D string at 6, and G string at 7, then same thing but D string at 4.

I always liked this song because of the atmosphere. Can't believe some people call it embarrassing. Guess I understand Paul better than some.
Yea I am right with ya on the feeling of this song .

So meaningless that it's my favorite of all his post-Beatles songs!
I love how Paul incorporated the marching band drumming into this track, so unusual but works beautiful with the simple flute bit. Great cover dude.
Hey man....love your videos. Great song selections. Also like the Gumby and Pokey figurines. Rock on!
Always loved this song and very much appreciate your lesson here. Thank you.
Thanx for “LettingThis In” ! Loved it!

Was he really making a conscious reference to the Bicentennial? I'm going to love this song even more if so.
Thanks for the lesson,my daughter loves this song. Now I can play it for her.
Thanks for taking the time to teach us old heads. Great work. Keep it coming.
Paul McCartney can write a song like all of us can make a sandwich.

Thank you … this is great !
just a lovely guitar backing only a genius could have come up with

I really enjoyed this! I now have a better respect for this song and you are right: Genius work from Sir Paul.

Un capo felicitsciones
thanks bro
I like the way he worked "Phil and Don" in, which I believe is referencing the Everly Brothers, who were major influences on the Beatles.
Brother Michael, Auntie Gin, and Uncle Ian are Paul's real relatives, too.
and Martin Luther who "knocked on the door." Wow.
Haha that was some sweet singing you did during your explanation :)
I have a Gibson J160e good guitar.
Nice channel
That's cool ; well explained- thanks
You can play the "doorbell intro" on the harmonics
when did you start playing guitar?
70s 80s some time
Hey great lesson, could you do a demo on People are Strange by The Doors? It would be much appreciated.
Hey James, are you a Rush fan ? Can you do their instrumental 'YYZ' ? Great guitar, and especially bass playing in there.
Thanks JJ. I'll play this to my daughter also. Could you please do "My Love" please ? cheers

I was wondering if you would try some more eagles songs. Maybe some lead parts or strictly rhythm it doesn`t matter. Nice video.
What is your oldest guitar?
I have a 1939 L-7.

He already did My Love as PT. Sorry to bother you, thanks.
Any chance you can do Zep's "In The Evening"?
Ben Clemens I posted that a while ago, but it was blocked for copyright violation.

you should give some Harry Nilsson a go. Great cover man
George beat Paul to it. In 1974 he did the song ''Ding Dong'' on the ''Dark Horse'' album.Ring out the old ring in the new.
angelomisterioso Except Ding Dong is a terrible song. :)
This might be the cleverest way of using a minimal number of notes in the history of the world.
