@@kurzyroly well, the patch is basically a distorted organ sound. You can go as fancy as you want and even use a real Hammond with a Marshall amp like John Lord, but originally it was made all inside the JD-800, and it's a factory patch.
@@_innerscape_I have 2 Jd800, the patch indeed are a preset, but the fx and the ambience that we can hear on the album are done using real Marshall head( same for some sounds like dw8000 lead distorted, or awake lead), the original preset was inside in a string expansion, I meaning that for example if you hear isolated track of erotomania or 6:00 there are classical noise ground tipically fron the Marshall in that years :) ps anyway I know cause I was in contact with a lot of Dream theater staff who recorded these albums :) I forget the original sound didn't include organ waveform but just organ attack and guitar and bass waveform
Well is Kevin the partnership Moore/pretucci created the sound and the music that made dream theater famous , after he left they never even got even close to the quality of I&W or awake , that combination of great lyrics melodies, ambients, and soulful sounds combined with their progressive elements, It was the uniqueness that made dream theater famous. They never recover that
I dont think the change is as drastic as a lot of people put it, though there is a big change for sure. Kevin's MO was atmosphere and melody, Jordan's is more rhythm and technicality. They succeed at different things and comparing them is moot. If Jordan was on Awake or Images and Words, I doubt it would be as good. Similar as if Kevin was on Metropolis Pt. 2 or Liquid Tension Experiment. They lost something and gained something else. If Kevin returns (which he probably won't), I think DT will gain something and lose something similarly. TL;DR both are GOATs and are good at different things so comparing them is moot.
takes some aged 70s hammond organ sound, adds some drive to it and calls it a day. not bad by itself and quite fitting for some retro prog acts but come on now it lacks all the edge of the original
The point of this videos is that Rudess is only a great player and not a creative musician. He himself admits that Kevin Moore distorted the sound through an amp and fails to do that or try that himself.
In that case then Petrucci should have had a strat for the Pink Floyd cover. He didn't. I bet Kevin didn't run through a boogie amp on stage either. Moore, Sherinian and Rudess are all great
He's achieving a similar sound with much less technical hassle, especially considering he rapidly changes the keyboard patches during a song, so he'd have to bypass the amp in real time. This is an incredibly assinine reason to call him 'not creative'. If anything, achieving the same result a different way is far more creative than just mimicking someone else's method.
Jordan rudess not creative?? 😂😂 Just because he wont plug his keys in a guitar amp hahaha It's ok if you don't like him, but go and listen to Octavarium or Six Degrees, wich he came up with alone, and tell me he is not creative...
Roland JD-800: Patch #75 (Velo-Crunch)
Right, there's no Petrucci's amp, just the on board effects on the mighty JD-800.
Really??
@@_innerscape_this sound and the main lead are Inside a Marshall amp, there is not only a JD fx

i get preferring one keyboardist to another but this is kind of petty, no? i say that as someone who prefers Moore's approach myself
I usually really love Jordan's tones, but I gotta agree with you on this one.

@ the sounds changed and the direction too, it was a big lost, they become a different band under the same name

Maybe he doesn't want to copy paste what someone else did, have you considered that possibility?
