- Another homemade gluten-free flour blend this time I have used glutinous white rice flour (or , light buckwheat flour, tapioca flour and sorghum flour. Yes, despite its name glutinous white rice flour is gluten-free. Also called Mochiko Flour or sweet rice flour.
Can I swap Glutinous Rice Flour (sweet rice flour) with regular white rice flour?
No, rice flour and glutinous rice flour should not be used interchangeably. The flours have very different textures, cook very differently and yield very different results. So, sweet rice flour is definitely not the same ingredient as regular white rice flour that is available in most supermarkets.
This blend is good to swap 1:1 for wheat flour recipes eg banana bread, carrot cake or muffins, pancakes, crumble topping and cookies. I would not recommend this for baking bread or a light sponge-style cake. Perfect to use when you need to make a sauce from scratch too and cheaper than a store-bought packet.
Takes: 5 minutes
Makes: 500g

Thanks Sue, you sure know your flours ❣️
You are so welcome 🤗
Hi Sue,
Is this recipe suitable for people who have celiac disease? Thanks
Hello Rachel all flours used are naturally gluten-free. I think you should be fine just double check the packets when buying incase they write a disclaimer stating the flours were prepared alongside wheat flours. Good luck!
Could you swap the sorghum flour for something else? I believe sorghum is a grass of sorts and people with allergies to grass should be careful with using it. Could be perfectly fine, but I don't feel like utmana ödet...
Buckwheat or Sorghum flour. Can be substituted for oat, or millet flour.
@@SueMareeP Thank you! I'll try oat flour. Millet is also in the grass family, unfortunately.
How can it be gluten free when you used glutinous rice flour?
Good question! I should have mentioned...Also known as
Mochiko Flour (Glutinous Rice Flour) - contrary to the name, glutinous rice flour has no gluten and is gluten-free.
@@SueMareeP okay so if all rice flours are gluten free how is the glutinous rice flour different to the others, and why can't you use 'normal' rice flour in this recipe?
