From my experience being at FLW I got there 22 November 2021 and graduated OSUT 25 March 2022 reception there for me wasn’t bad my company definitely took it for granted. Once we arrived at Bravo 35th EN BN it was a shit show but for those wondering about phones. For OSUT the phone privileges you get during your 9 weeks of BCT expect the same for AIT but if you aren’t OSUT you’ll have your phones on your person during AIT. I’m currently still at the 35th jumping from Alpha to Charlie to Delta waiting to go to Airborne on the 21st then off to Italy I go. I’m a 12B Combat Engineer for those who are wondering.

Update: Graduate from AIT at Fort Gordon in about two weeks. Then I’m off to the 160th SOAR at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. It gets better you just gotta make it through basic.

I just graduated osit I had the same experience. But I enjoyed some of basic especially real training if you are going and read this just know it sucks for the first half but it does get better the longer your there.

I signed up as an 11 bravo (infantry) and meps sent me to fort leonardwood because of a wrong plane ticket. I was stuck there for two months doing nothing but sitting and waiting, it’s depressing, the bays and restrooms are cleaned by the hold overs (kids who have medical conditions or other reasons as to why they can’t ship to basic and are waiting to go home or get kicked out) the bays are nasty, there’s mold in every corner of the showers. You just sit down all day on a bench with no back support and read a fucking blue book in silence, sometimes you stand for hours and it’s really hard not to fall asleep. You’ll be waking up at 3 or 4 in the morning just to sit and stand all day feeling so tired with a small book and a green bag on your hand, the outside of the base is also depressing, no green at all just dead trees and grass and rude ass people, glad I left that shit place and left to fort benning for my basic.
And no you don’t get your phone, I always wondered that myself but I went through it. NO PHONES! Once you’re off the bus from the airport you make one final 30 second call to tell your fam where you are and then go straight into in processing with no sleep that day. Youre gonna pull fireguard shifts which is one person stays up with someone else every hour of the night and they switch, there’s seriously no phones, don’t believe rumors, you only get it when you leave to basic and that’s only 10 minutes. If you have medical issues, or you’re lying on your contract or whatever tf you’re not doing right, don’t ship out to basic save yourself the time I met people there who were there for months because of shit like that without contact with their families for months I had to sneak my phone in because I couldn’t take it anymore and I even let them make phone calls to their families. Think about it.
I'm stuck in quarantine rn at FLW as I Write this, I would urge anyone who hasn't already to get the vaccine so you're not having to wait 10 days to do anything, I got split up where he said the positive people got split off and it's terrible to be here, I have to wait almost 2 weeks just to go to reception

They take it as soon as you get to your barracks. They make you drop it off in a crate. You put it in a envelope and stuff. You get to call once before going to basic. So like a hour prior to leaving reception. Just about

Yes! You could get them during reception ,the DS at reception will give it to you there once they come in or they might take a while and come in during basic after yellow phase I believe.

What did they do for the eye exam? I'm shipping out at the end of this month and a bit worried about that. I don't wear glasses or contacts but I heard there may be unexpected problems.
They do the standard eye check. They make you look in a machine with the letter chart crap I believe and their they determine if you need glasses or not if so they’ll send you over the next person who will get your prescription done on the spot with the eye glasses machine thing and you should get your glasses in reception but cuz of “covid” it might be a “longer process” so you might get it in basic. I never got mine I only got inserts for my eye protection for the range and one for the gas mask
Unless your eye site is so bad that it can affect your mos they’ll switch your mos which happened to a guy in my basic. Which is rare thing cuz it would have to be pretty bad and your mos requires like a certain vision
@@privateruski7018 my husband is at FLW right now 31B is his MOS and had a waiver for vision. Did all the exams at MEPS before shipping and was approved. Now they’re telling him at reception that he’s not shipping to basic and basically the waiver doesn’t matter. They’re supposed to send him home but they said it could be up to another month before that happens and he has to stay in reception until then. His recruiter is trying to figure out why they aren’t accepting the waiver and pushing for him to stay. Any insight?? I feel so awful, it sounds like legit purgatory for someone who tried so hard to get there.
How many days was reception? My daughter got there last night at 1am. I heard I get another call when reception is complete. Can you tell me how many days that is? She is Osut I believe, 23 weeks for psychological operations. So she arrived on a Tuesday evening approximately midnight. Also sorry one more question. From what I'm learning she won't have a 10wk graduation if she is Osut so is it accurate I have to wait 23 weeks or is there any opportunity to see her before. Thanks so much in advance
Reception is 3-5 days unless osut which then is 5-8 days, and osut still have the 10 week graduation it’s just a basic training graduation the first 10 weeks is the same for everyone.
3-5 days. I stayed from Wednesday- Tuesday afternoon cuz they don’t work weekends. So since she came on Monday she should be done by Wednesday or latest Friday. If she’s osut. Then it takes a week and maybe a few extra days
@@pennyevans1643 it’s when you doing basic training and Advance Individual Training (ait) in the same company. So once they graduate basic the next the day is just like the other days but now they are learning their job. Osut is for infantry, military police, combat engineers etc.
How is the hearing portion at reception? Is it strict if you fail one hearing, or do they send you back home if you fail? Also, is it the same as MEPS where you put the headphones on and click the button when you hear the beep? I ship off July 27, and my left hearing is getting lowkey dog shit. I was still able to pass when I went to MEPS, but I was in the DEP bc I was a senior in hs so I went to MEPS nearly a year ago (last summer). Any info helps bro
Yeah it’s just like meps. But it’s harder cuz you’re literally fall asleep in there. Every falls asleep in there cuz of how tired you are. You get two chances and if you don’t pass they kick you out of the army.
@@parkerbrunette9969 yeah you will, I lived right across from them in basic😂, and just stay mentally strong, mainly all mental than physical, set your mind right and you’ll get through it. Make sure you exercise before coming so do some runs, 30s 60s, 60s 120s, tons of pushups, preferably hand release pushups.

It’s nothing nerve racking. They well yell on purpose to obvs have y’all listen but it’s so that you get used to it cuz in war they want you to be mentally good. If you need to use the restroom just ask someone next to you to go with you. You can go whenever practically. Just make sure you come with someone and leave with them. Don’t lose your battle buddy

Stay motivated, remember why you joined. Go for runs if haven’t yet. Definitely need it. Don’t let be scared of the DS they are their to help you. Just do what they say and you’ll graduate no matter what. Don’t get stuck in the wrong crowd. Push yourself, it’s all mental

Aug 24th Tuesday- the following Tue… She got out Wednesday Sept 1st…was leaving to go to basic at 1430hrs When she called with the “scripted call”…it was around 1830… Would they have done much at that hour? During yellow phase you don’t go cuz of quarantine. But that might of change. It’s usually every 2 weeks. You go on a sunday usually, you get haircuts and get whatever you need that’s allowed. Always depends on the company.
To me it was easy cuz I’ve shot before basic. But I mean it’s easy, not much recoil and they teach you how to use them. I only had one person fail qualifications in my company
if youre asking a question then no, FLW basic training is whatever a mix of mos unless its osut like 31B. FLW mos training mainly is 31B, And a Couple engineering mos', 88m and cbrn
@@breezy4693 yeah I basic between January 26-April 1st and we had a snow storm in February. Post was shut down. Couldn’t go outside. When we walked to first aid. There was black ice. People would slide and collide and m4s would fly . It was the funniest time of my life. But they use the cold as a smoke session. Instead of actually smoking us cuz it would warm us up so they just let us be cold. Couldn’t wear any cold weather gear besides the cheap gloves not even the winter gloves. Fleece cap. Gators. And the gortex. That was it. No silks or waffles. It sucked. It was in the negatives for a while. Hurt to breath lmao

It’s gonna be really different for me. Different eating habits, more physical power, different place and weather. Wow! I’m just imagining me with a with a cold running nose and being inside that gas chamber… snot everywhere.
Make sure to run, do pushups, go for hikes if you can. To prepare your body for the physical portion. Also eat healthier. But it’s mainly a mental challenge

Are the 43rd AG reception barracks still haunted? I was at the top bay during winter 2018. The barracks closest to the road on the far left coming from the cafeteria side of the 43rd AG path. At night during firewatch, I’d hear chatting in the distance. A lot of it. Like if you were in the cafeteria, but everyone would be asleep. And the energy in there was off, people claimed to see dark figures standing over their bunks at night. My one battle saw a dark figure walk into the bathroom, (you’re supposed to sign in/out while waking up at night to use the latrines) he thought it was someone but he waited a bit before going in there to check who it was, no one was there.
@@mommiechelle just the first day cuz you’re up from 4am at the hotel and go to bed the next day at like 8pm I believe, but our bay keep messing up so we didn’t go to bed until 11:30pm and had to wake up at 4am
Look up the ACFT training online to get fit for it. Cuz for 88M they have to met them heavy standard. I have a company full of them in basic. Y’all’s ait is easy. Just that acft gotta worry about when it becomes offical
I graduated basic and AIT for 88M in Ft LW 2 months ago. For basic study that blue book, do as you’re told, keep your head down, don’t get caught up on petty arguments/fights with others, and remember the reason why you joined. It isn’t that hard as long as you put your mind into it. As far as AIT goes it is a lot more chill but don’t get complacent. A good amount of people got recycled in my class for failing assessments that is required to graduate from AIT. Just listen to the instructors that are teaching you and you will be ok. At reception? Yes if you’re not doing what’s right. Examples , sleeping, talking, no battle buddy, taking too long to do something, not walking on the edge of the hallway etc. but they aren’t allowed to smoke you in reception

It shouldn’t be long, I don’t quite know, but I know those who did split ops, they still get their head shaved at least at fort Leonard Wood, and it shouldn’t be longer than a day I believe

Should be more relaxed cuz they are already soldiers. Well unless prior service has be out of the army for awhile then they have to do training all over again
Meps yes. in reception no, in basic yes. They do one in basic thats 100% and then one later thats 50% might of changed might be more now but expect one in basic.

If you have medical issues, or you’re lying on your contract or whatever tf you’re not doing right, don’t ship out to basic save yourself the time I met people there who were there for months because of shit like that without contact with their families for months I had to sneak my phone in because I couldn’t take it anymore and I even let them make phone calls to their families. What did they do for the eye exam? I'm shipping out at the end of this month and a bit worried about that. I don't wear glasses or contacts but I heard there may be unexpected problems.
They do the standard eye check. They make you look in a machine with the letter chart crap I believe and their they determine if you need glasses or not if so they’ll send you over the next person who will get your prescription done on the spot with the eye glasses machine thing and you should get your glasses in reception but cuz of “covid” it might be a “longer process” so you might get it in basic. I never got mine I only got inserts for my eye protection for the range and one for the gas mask
Unless your eye site is so bad that it can affect your mos they’ll switch your mos which happened to a guy in my basic. Which is rare thing cuz it would have to be pretty bad and your mos requires like a certain vision

Now they’re telling him at reception that he’s not shipping to basic and basically the waiver doesn’t matter. They’re supposed to send him home but they said it could be up to another month before that happens and he has to stay in reception until then. His recruiter is trying to figure out why they aren’t accepting the waiver and pushing for him to stay. Any insight?? I feel so awful, it sounds like legit purgatory for someone who tried so hard to get there.

How many days was reception? My daughter got there last night at 1am. I heard I get another call when reception is complete. Can you tell me how many days that is? She is Osut I believe, 23 weeks for psychological operations. So she arrived on a Tuesday evening approximately midnight.
Also sorry one more question. From what I'm learning she won't have a 10wk graduation if she is Osut so is it accurate I have to wait 23 weeks or is there any opportunity to see her before. Thanks so much in advance
Reception is 3-5 days unless osut which then is 5-8 days, and osut still have the 10 week graduation it’s just a basic training graduation the first 10 weeks is the same for everyone.

3-5 days. I stayed from Wednesday- Tuesday afternoon cuz they don’t work weekends. So since she came on Monday she should be done by Wednesday or latest Friday. If she’s osut. Then it takes a week and maybe a few extra days

@@pennyevans1643 it’s when you doing basic training and Advance Individual Training (ait) in the same company. So once they graduate basic the next the day is just like the other days but now they are learning their job. Osut is for infantry, military police, combat engineers etc.

How is the hearing portion at reception? Is it strict if you fail one hearing, or do they send you back home if you fail? Also, is it the same as MEPS where you put the headphones on and click the button when you hear the beep? I ship off July 27, and my left hearing is getting lowkey dog shit. Yeah it’s just like meps. But it’s harder cuz you’re literally fall asleep in there. Every falls asleep in there cuz of how tired you are. You get two chances and if you don’t pass they kick you out of the army.

@@parkerbrunette9969 yeah you will, I lived right across from them in basic😂, and just stay mentally strong, mainly all mental than physical, set your mind right and you’ll get through it. Make sure you exercise before coming so do some runs, 30s 60s, 60s 120s, tons of pushups, preferably hand release pushups.

During yellow phase you don’t go cuz of quarantine. But that might of change. It’s usually every 2 weeks. You go on a sunday usually, you get haircuts and get whatever you need that’s allowed. Always depends on the company.
How hard was shooting the rifle??
To me it was easy cuz I’ve shot before basic. But I mean it’s easy, not much recoil and they teach you how to use them. I only had one person fail qualifications in my company

@@breezy4693 yeah I basic between January 26-April 1st and we had a snow storm in February. Post was shut down. Couldn’t go outside. When we walked to first aid. There was black ice. People would slide and collide and m4s would fly . It was the funniest time of my life. But they use the cold as a smoke session. Instead of actually smoking us cuz it would warm us up so they just let us be cold. Couldn’t wear any cold weather gear besides the cheap gloves not even the winter gloves. Fleece cap. Gators. And the gortex. That was it. No silks or waffles. It sucked. It was in the negatives for a while. Hurt to breath lmao

Are the 43rd AG reception barracks still haunted? I was at the top bay during winter 2018. The barracks closest to the road on the far left coming from the cafeteria side of the 43rd AG path.
At night during firewatch, I’d hear chatting in the distance. A lot of it. Like if you were in the cafeteria, but everyone would be asleep. And the energy in there was off, people claimed to see dark figures standing over their bunks at night.
My one battle saw a dark figure walk into the bathroom, (you’re supposed to sign in/out while waking up at night to use the latrines) he thought it was someone but he waited a bit before going in there to check who it was, no one was there.

I graduated basic and AIT for 88M in Ft LW 2 months ago. For basic study that blue book, do as you’re told, keep your head down, don’t get caught up on petty arguments/fights with others, and remember the reason why you joined. It isn’t that hard as long as you put your mind into it. As far as AIT goes it is a lot more chill but don’t get complacent. A good amount of people got recycled in my class for failing assessments that is required to graduate from AIT. Just listen to the instructors that are teaching you and you will be ok.
