They are not milking you brother with the entry fees. These villages barely receives any fund from the government but through that money they were able to built, maintain, and keep it clean. The other point is that those cement paths you are walking on, the tools required to build them are being carried physically by men not by helicopter. Anyway welcome to Meghalaya.

As an indigenous, I do believe that the people carried those cement bags all throughout the way and built those steps through sheer hard work and back pains.
Also, on the point of different villages taking their own entry fees is because each village is responsible for maintaining their individual areas i.e., maintaining cleanliness, ensure nothing along the path is faulty or dangerous and also maybe just an annoyance fee because yes, people are walking just behind your back yards! 😅😂
If you are still in Meghalaya, i do suggest you go on the bamboo trek in Wahkhen village because you will feel much awe at the hard work needed to complete that path!

It's very interesting right?!

While i agree missionary conversion is bad but you don't know the ground reality of the region in the 1940s and 50s. If it wasn't for the missionaries whole of Northeast would still be living in the dark. The missionaries didn't just build schools and hospitals but also gave the tribe their own writing alphabets. There are many good things done by the missionaries to the region.

To the few blokes here with the misconception of history on religion in our state. I don't blame you cause you have never read any history about Northeastern States except probably online bits on tourism Find some books, feed your brain and to those thinking we were taken advantage because we were poor, brother and sister, you nor any missionary would ever see or find a KHASI hungry to be taken advantage of. Again if you want to know why, read.
