Love the Epson LS12000 I have had it over a year now and it blows me away every time I watch a film on it. 4K UHDs really shine on it… the amount of detail you can see with it is nuts crystal clear and it’s amazing with motion… it does make your theater feel commercial grade.
Great Choice Kevin , I recently installed one of these in my last project for a customer . Yes we found one here in Edmonton Canada . It was about $6500 but came with a professional Chief mount. Out of the box the set up was very easy and the lens shifting and zoom from the remote control was very smooth lets you make fine adjustments. Great projector , I want one too! I still have my old Epson 8430 and know what you mean .
The chief mount was super easy to use and install. I did some panel alignment and setting and was up and running super fast. I had no idea these projectors were hard to get in Canada. Hope more come in stock soon.
You're right about HDR on the 4010. I ended up turning off HDR on my 4K player, setting the 4010 to SDR, and adjusting brightness and contrast. In most cases I have to push contrast way up to get a quality picture. My Sony 4K player also has faux HDR setting options, which are only able to be used when HDR is turned off in the main menu. It helps dial in the image as well.
I have the 4010 projecting on a 115" 2.35:1 screen and still find myself impressed with its image quality, particularly in a dark room. The main problem I've always had with 2.35:1 screens is the light spill above and below the screen when zooming out to fill the screen. Despite the wall being painted dark brown, I still see the spill, particularly when the room is dark and during dark scenes in movies. It has always driven me nuts! You mentioned "laser dimming" on the LS12000. Would this technology eliminate the light spill, effectively turning off all pixels in the unused area above and below the 2.35:1 image?
@@1165mac I have velvet below and above my screen. The light spill disappears for sure. I think the light spill would be less noticeable with the LS 12000
@@KevisFilms I've searched for months and am yet to find any velvet solution that passes the WAF. Our screen is in the main living room. I've just about decided to give up and get a 16:9 screen.
Thanks - I have a JVC X590 (a "few" yers old) that is pretty good at minimum distance to the screen sitting square to screen center of a Seymore 137" AT 16:9 screen. It is yet uncalibrated - I'm having a lot of trouble finding a local calibrator in Eatern Canada. Love your vids - Cheers!
Thanks for the comparison video. The LS12000 throws a great picture, though the lack of dynamic tone mapping in 2025 at this price point is disappointing. With JVC's NZ500 pressing from above, and companies like Valerion pushing from below, Epson is no longer the goto for a midrange projector. Good to finally see a shake up with some serious competition.
I wanted to go with the epson, but not being able to watch avatar or avengers infinity war in 3D ruled most of the higher end projectors out. And since i have to use a white cinema in a living room, I needed a short throw or a UST. After a lot of back and forth, with the hisense PX3, I ended up backing the Valerion Visionmaster Max. The main problem is that I still need to use a TV for my Wife, and there are no good 135" motorized ust screens that i am aware of. And with 3D, the screen can't be big enough in my opinion. We will see how it worked in June/ July.
I bet the MAX will be great! So far anything from Valerion is getting great reviews. I never got into 3d movies so picking a projector became a little easier for me. Good luck finding the correct screen.
The Valerian supposedly has a lot of issues with laser speckle in regards to CLR/Contrast screens, which would make my original plan of using one pointless. I don't want to black out my living room, so there is a drawback with everything. There are no "Perfect Setups", unless you have unlimited funds and a seperare room. Everything else will always be a compromise. Still also contemplating getting a good subwoofer that fits into a living room, as well as external amplification for the bed layer speakers.
I was looking at the LS12000 for my first projector but cannot get them in Canada anymore as nobody has stock anymore. Discontinued maybe? Maybe a new model coming out that might be true 4K? Thinking this is around a four year or more old projector now. Looking at the JVC LZ700 maybe but nowhere to go to look at them before buying.
@@Old1Biking the LS12000 are out of stock in Canada? Has it been like that in a while? JVC still has some great projectors with fantastic images! I bet Epson moves to Native 4K in the next round of models (maybe 2026?)
@ the LS12000 have not been available for close to four months. I did see one open box somewhere before the holidays. I was looking to only spend between $5-7,000 CAD$. But there is not much available for decent laser 4K in that range. JVC LZ500 is $7,999 CAD. Sony XW5000 is $7,500 but has a manual lens, which would suck for zooming from 16:9 to fit the screen better with other formats. JVC DLA NZ700 jumps up to $11,999CAD.. none of these came on sale through the holidays.
I think with the arrival to the market of excellent quality laser lifestyle projector like Xgimi , Hisense , Valerion, Nexigo,Jmgo with very competitive price for even the flagship models Epson will need to step up if they want to keep to the competition, 5000 dollars for the Epson LS 12000 is a over price tag when you can get for less equal or better features from lifestyle laser projector from other brands
I just upgrade few days ago from Viewsonic PX 701 4K HDR lamp projector to a Xgimi Horizon S Max 4k Dolby Vision 3100 lumens Imax Enhance certificate laser life style projector for just 1,699 on Amazon and the picture ,color, blacks contrast are stoning !!!! the only thing I gonna miss from the viewsonic is the advantage to replace the lamp , my new laser projector have 20,000 hours of source life so , I will see how long will last , I used the projector about 6 hours 3 to 4 days during the week . Can a laser light source can be replace by the manufacturer ??

Hello I'm greeting from Germany Kevin, with all due respect, if I may ask you the question why you are a generation behind? Why didn't you get the latest Epson QB1000? It only costs 5500 euros here in Germany
Don’t get me wrong. I’m a massive Epson fan, but the Valerion is punching WELL ABOVE its weight. The value in a Valerion (especially right now) is there. Epson DROPPED 3D movie support on the LS12000 AND IT IS WAY MORE EXPENSIVE than the Valerion right now….which SUPPORTS 3D. When a $2,000 projector is being compared to a JVC $14,000 projector…you know there is value there.
I went from a epson 3800 to the ls12000. Wife was against the upgrade. Turned it on and was in the plex menu. The Wife said, I hate to admit it, but i can already tell a difference."
Congrats on the LS12000. You'll see a real difference in horror or scifi movies where contrast is big. Watch the 4th Bad Boys movie and you'll see how good it looks on the LS12000.
Hi. I’ve owned the Epson for 2 years. I was very fortunate to demo it next to the JVC N9. Literally side by side. The JVC did have better blacks but it lagged behind the Epson in brightness and colours. I improved things even more by buying a grey screen. Cheers
😂 Epson is brighter only in uncalibrated mess. Calibrate them and then the advantage goes down a lot while the difference in contrast and blacks remains huge in favor of JVC And of course great tone mapping and 4k .... There is just no comparison. JVC is on another league
@@shaolin95Don’t calibrate it then. Quite simple. Seriously, yes the JVC is in the league above with the price to match as well.
