    Great overview, thanks for sharing! Glad to see some comparisons popping up so soon after cedia.
    Quick question, I noticed on the ls12000 if you want low input lag for gaming, you have to enable “fast” instead of “fine” and when you do, it disables frame interpolation so the smoothness of game motion on content that isn’t 120hz is more juddery essentially forcing a choice between better response or better motion. By chance did you happen to notice if the QB has the same limitation?

    • @jvonengeln
      @jvonengeln  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@senact3040 a few things to note. Fast is 20ms. Fine is 40ms on the LS12000. I am almost always in fine. Even for most games that level of latency is okay. If I’m playing a platform or something requires precision control, I’ll switch it to fast, but that’s rare. As to judder on fast, it’s unnoticeable 99% of the time whole gaming from PC with wildly fluctuating frame rates game to game. I have a 3080 GPU on my gaming PC and a Xbox Series X and I find both a real treat to game on the LS12000. It’s the best projector I’ve ever had the pleasure of using for gaming. When I’m don’t gaming, if I was using fast, I just switch it back to fine. On the QB1000 I anticipate zero problems with this so long as your game console and AVR both support HDMI 2.1, and you have the 8K enhanced HDMI setting enabled on all three devices. We didn’t get a chance to game on the QB1000, but knowing its heritage is the LS12000 and how good it its, Epson would have to go out of their way to mess up the QB1000 pedigree.

      @senact3040 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The game I was recently experimenting with was a mario game on the switch. Fast panning and precision controls, 1080p and at best 60fps. Fine mode does not impede my ability to play but when set to fast, the control response is noticeably better to me, basically going from great to excellent. The motion on fine without interpolation seemed poor to me but with it on high, it was a real treat and looked fantastic. On fast, the motion was roughly between those two examples. I haven’t tried a 120hz signal from the xbox yet but looking forward to trying it. Right now I’m favouring better motion since the input lag is not detrimental

    Some useful stuff here. I know it's just a phone video but while the LS12000 isn't as bright, it kind of looks like the blacks are deeper in this comparison. I'd love to see a detailed review of the 8k pixel shifting on a large screen (150 and up) using a legit 4k blu ray.

      We got you covered on some of your wishlist. The green used was a 160” 16x9 screen, and while we were only filling it up about 2/3a to 3/4… it passed the general idea. Point 2, this content was played back on Kaleidoscape which is HD Blu-ray or better than on every single thing. So your 4K HDR disk source wishlist bullet was met by the source device.

    I think you just saved me $3k. Was getting a little FOMO after hearing about the QB1000. I think the LS1200 is the sweet spot of performance per dollar. I think I'll go with that for my theater.

  • @SuperBloodyskull
    @SuperBloodyskull หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    The improvements in HDR with the QB1000 is subtle but what's most noticeable is much better the blacks look which effects most other scenes including the whiter ones because there's not that blue tint you seems to see in every scene with the LS12000. Until the QB1000 is compared side by side with both the Sonys and JVC it's hard to know whether they have done a good job with their DTM or not.

    • @jvonengeln
      @jvonengeln  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@SuperBloodyskull I spent two years with the JVC RS2100 in ownership. I can pretty squarely say the JVC DTM is more aggressive and less subtle - and what’s more has tiers you can change like Auto-wide, or 0-5. Epson needs to do similar with a future firmware update, so the user has some degree of control over the intensity of the DTM application. I’d like to have seen more aggressive raising of the shadow detail on the dark scenes like 1917. In the video, the camera was picking up more difference than we were seeing in real life. Always consider in a side by side, cameras exaggerate differences. I’ve participated in several blind test projector shootouts, and when people can’t tell the difference to their eyes, they’ll pull out a camera and see the differences more easily.

    • @jvonengeln
      @jvonengeln  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@SuperBloodyskull also please for sure understand the camera exaggerates the blue tint, and these weren’t gamma or color calibrated, which would also help reduce blue tint on dark content. That said the LS12000 is commonly noted to have this as a minor issue, and it wasn’t observable on this particular QB 1000 to our human eyes out of the box. So here’s to hoping it’s no longer a common minor issue with the new QB1000.

    My main takeaway is that the differences between these two projectors are negligible and will only be noticed in a side-by-side comparison, except maybe for motion interpolation. By using DTM on the LS12000 via madVR freeware in a HTPC setup, will the picture of both these units be indistinguishable? In other words can the extra cost of the onboard DTM of the QB1000 be offset by using a HTPC?

      @@michaeldee3380 there is some discussion on that on page 3 and 4 of the avsforum thread linked in the picture. Frankly I’m curious myself. The frame interpolation upgrade was my favorite upgrade, and the fan speed change. I was expecting the extra brightness and dynamic tone mapping to be more observable, but we didn’t see that to help the case watching content. @@ElDukeo I don’t agree too much with this observation because dynamic tone mapping SHOULD be raising the brightness level of a scene like that 1917 stairstep scene. That’s one of its purposes. To reduce brightness clipping is just one side of the equation (and it did that too). It should be helping to make a dark dim scene that is otherwise pretty difficult see (because its into the black floor limitation of the projector), more easy to see because it’s re-mapping the scene to something the projector designer knows is more above the black floor limitations of the LCD panel. They should be making it watchable and visible since they have all the parameters of their own hardware model. I would have liked to have seen it much brighter still. The black floor may have given up the tiniest hint overall on the QB1000, but that is such a minor niggle - in most content the intrascene and overall contrast looked pretty much the same to our human eyes in our uncalibrated side by side.

      @@SamLombardo74 it’s a tiny tiny difference in black floor. It appeared in person like the black floor was a little tiny tiny bit elevated on the QB1000, I’m talking minuscule, and inconsequential, and probably only noticeable in a side by side. You can kind of see it in my Avatar way of the water picture better than anything else, but it’s so close no one should make a decision based on that aspect alone. I got out my Dr Meter lux meter at one point to measure if the blacks were different and they both registered on the device at .2 ft candles. So the meter proved pretty identical as well. That 2.5 million to one vs 5 million to one marketing speak for the LS12000 vs QB1000 seems like nothing more than just marketing spec. I saw no real dynamic dimming or black floor contrast improvements in our little 2-3 hours of testing. The black floor seems subjectively nearly identical. I think we have reached the limits of LCD panel tech because Epson native contrast has t changed in like 4-5 generations now. It hovers around 5,000:1 native and whatever dynamic. Now we didn’t calibrate either projector and we only used one color mode. So with more extensive comparison - there could be other conclusions - but we were using traditionally the best picture mode for dynamic dimming and contrast control. (Dynamic picture mode) and I fully expect it’s pretty representing- aside from individual sample variances that cannot be controlled if you are only comparing two individual units.

      @@12P14D22C agreed. For my wallet if this was $6000 US MSRP I would recommend it, for $8000 though, I most often will be recommending folk to the LS12000. This could change with future firmware updates though! Remember that the QB1000 is just released and will have about three years of performance improvements via expected firmware updates, while the LS12000 is probably already near the limits of its expected firmware updates.

      @@jvonengeln gonna check out the QB1000 first thing next year and make my decision, using an epson 9400 still ( 6060ub i think is the model name in the US ) and looking for an upgrade.

      @@jvonengeln another question, i really like bright pictures and like it when the picture pops. My room is treated, its pretty much black.
      The JVC NZ500 is the other option. Im gonna take a look at both no matter what i read on the interwebs, but would love to hear your opinion on the NZ500 vs the QB1000 ( if you had the chance to see the NZ500 as well ) i know that ur unable to give definitive answers and so on, just want your take on it. Thanks!

    This is a little disappointing but also shows how great the LS12000 is.

    Looked like the 12000 had better black details ok the left. It is not so much the light, it's more like the new one has a generally whiter picture (background). I actually preferred the 12000. But, YT and all that.
