A small disturbing detail if you choose to gun down Mordin. The gun Shepard uses is the same gun that Mordin gave you as a gift for helping him in his recruitment mission in Mass Effect 2. After Shepard shoots him, he leaves and tosses the gun aside.
He did it on my first playthrough as well though I let Mordin cure the genophage. I just couldn't shoot him but I let him go up and cure the phage. Shep still throws the pistol away and it hits harder in that regard because though he didn't shoot him he came very very close to betraying one of his most loyal friends
What I don't like about the whole genophage thing in ME3 is how they retconned it. Morden in ME2 clearly said that the genophage was designed to limit Krogan reproduction to the same level as the other species of the galaxy. What's wrong with that?
@@mikeroman5208 I don't see how that's a retcon. In fact Mordin himself had already done work updating the genophage by the time we recruit him. The whole issue with it in ME3 is that, with certain doom looming in the near future and high chance of stillborns, Krogans aren't really interested in breeding attempts. They go off-world to be mercenaries and bodyguards and most never return. That means the genophage is effectively killing off the Krogan and should be at least adjusted, but we get the solid argument that it could be lifted altogether.
@@ricksaburai I didn't think of that and I agree with you. However, this argument only serves to prove the Salarian Dalatrass right: the Krogan are unable or unwilling to change their warlike ways. Instead of working to rebuild their society and the planet that they themselves nuked into oblivion, they opted to spend the following one thousand years going off-world to become soldiers of fortune. Wrex can probably keep the Krogan on a short leash for a little while, but I don't see how that's possible in the long run with a population that will be growing at an exponentially accelerated rate.
To maximize war assets during the Tuchanka Arc you need to kill Wrex and Mordin but Save Maleon's data to save Eve. However, doing so results in the Krogan Extinction post-Reaper War.
Something that fascinated me in Mass Effect was how much certain characters change your view on an entire species. Like between Reeve and Wrex kind of sways the viability of curing the genophage. Also whoever willingly shot Mordin is a monster.
One of the things I did in my first playthrough was I went renegade all the way to pointing the Carnifex pistol at Mordin but as he was walking I couldn't do it...I couldn't pull the trigger....and Mordin just nods in approval as he goes up. I like the small detail even in my playthrough Shepard throws the pistol away even though I let him cure it because I wasn't sure. It's symbolic because even if you don't pull the trigger Shep still realizes he almost gunned down one of his most loyal friends and feels he doesn't deserve the pistol he gave you.
Shooting Mordin stopped my renegade play through in its tracks and I’ve never felt more guilt than I did at that moment. To this day I can’t bring myself to finish my renegade run
It was my first playthrough and I also felt actual true guilt. That is the power of Mass Effect, after 3 games, you truly care for these characters. Although they aren't real, I felt truly guilty. I never replayed that scenario again. IT was an unforgetable gaming experience. In nearly 20 years of gaming, I have never felt something like that.
I mean without wrex and eve... Having Wreav on command the krogan would just have another violent battle with the rest of the galaxy. They do say "Let's wait till the krogan have a better leadership again to do this" Mordin dies just cuz Shepard was being plain evil lol
Yup, either he dies in ME1 or just make your full run with him MIA (well, as you said, more accurate to say nor recruited, this will make both ME2 and 2 pretend he died).
@@PikangsFutaba When you import such a save in ME2 it says that Wrex survived Virmire (although he never showed up), and in ME3 it says he was not recruited and his name doesn't show up on the memorial wall, so I don't think they pretend he died, he may still be alive doing contracts or lurking somewhere ;)
there is no baby Krogan it is said in the scene it's a fertilized egg and it seems to be inside an incubator. I saved Mordin in one of my playthrough if you don't play the first game in ME2 Wrex is dead by canon and you have Reeve in command of the Krogans and he wants revenge for the genophage and he wants to start a new war so it makes sense to trick him and save Mordin pity for the female Krogan though who dies in the process.
I'll always love the lil nod Legion gives Tali when she says 'for once, Legion, we agree' lol. Like a lil puppy I've been tempted for a while now to like, do a video or something looking at identity through Mass Effect as a medium. The debate about Legion's pronouns is something I find interesting, for example, because it's something completely irrelevant to the Geth. They are not individuals, until ME3, and we have no idea if gender is something they would go on to develop. And yet, it's something that I've seen a few let's players bring up when talking about them. It links in to something they say on their loyalty mission at the start, where if you suggest that, since the geth are just machines rather than 'people', you don't see anything wrong with rewriting them. Legion agrees that it's a valid observation, and half of the programs within it's platform think it's the better option, and comments something to the effect of 'treating all species the same is racist, even benign anthropomorphism'; in a sense, treating the Geth as equals means treating them as different from us, because in their eyes they are different to us... and they're okay with that. Liara's father says something similar, in that she gets pissed off when you call her Liara's mother. Shepherd apologises and says that, were she human, they'd both be called the mother, to which Liara's father responds that she's not a human. Anyway, fun as always Meg! It was fun catching part of this on stream :))
About the Genophage-Mordin thing: Tbh we feel sorry for Wrex's death in ME1 once we have finished the trilogy and get attached to him. Choosing to kill Wrex in ME1 is not a total evil choice, compared to some others in the trilogy. If you're playing a Ruthless Shepard who's commited to accomplish the mission no matter the cost, that's a valid choice since Wrex was kinda jeopardizing the mission. So if someone's playing the trilogy for the first time, it's possible to keep Mordin alive in ME3 without feeling that much weight on Wrex's death. I have a friend who did just like that.
The only thing I really disagree with that you said is when you said Bailey was being a POS. I don't see how... He knew nothing that Shepard did. To him it was just another crazy person on citadel and he was just doing his job.

Other disturbing thing you can do in ME3 is being in a relationship with Tali, then side with the geth without enough support to make the quarians stop their attack. This will result in one of the worst scenes in ME3. It is not necessary to be in a relationship with Tali to get that scene, but it will deffo make it worse.
When I played ME3 for the first time ever, I had done something wrong and on that mission, I couldn't Rally or Warn the fleet (no red or blue option) so I had to choose between the Geth and the Quarians. After many agonizing minutes, I chose to let Legion continue the upload. I knew Tali would be upset but I did NOT expect her to die - I was not romancing Tali but I was wrecked for many hours afterwards.
