    When I'm in the kitchen, or tidying up around the house, I find myself humming "I am the very model..." I had no idea this character would have such a profound impact on me. He felt guilt, but didn't make it a pity party. He took action. I love his quirks, his brain, and his heart. Had to be him.

      I'm honestly curious what changed at the last minute for Mordin that made him suddenly think he made a mistake. Not long before he still stated that the Genophage was the right decision at the time. Personally i agree with him though.

    • @AClockworkMelon
      @AClockworkMelon 3 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      Mordin never changed his mind about the Genophage. Up until the end he believed that if he could go back and do it all over again he'd make the same choice. He didn't think he made a mistake, he thought it was time for the Genophage to end. This is from the man's own words, all the way through the games.

      @@CarlosHuiskens It was his time with Eve, as well as all the time on Tuchanka where he saw the death and destruction. Eve grew to like Mordin despite being a part of the pain she and her clan and her people have been through, through that connection Mordin realized what the true effects of his work was and realized his mistake. In ME2 when Shepard says "look at the dead woman Mordin, it doesn't look like you saved her" it was a spark in his heart but was fought against it,.

    Something that took me years to notice about this section of the game is Mordin's speech cadence. Typically when he's talking, it's very quick, just saying enough to get the message across, while simultaneously thinking on a dozen other projects.
    But here, he's calm, collected, focused. He's putting all of himself in curing the Genophage, and it's amazing to see how well it shows just through something as subtle as speech patterns.

      I did that method with my Paragon Male Shepard. It was also so awesome to hear when Shepard says this: "Go...Save the cure..." I have no regrets getting that cutscene. It was the best way to let Mordin go. But...I saw an alternate way to let him go. If you pull out the gun, but you not press the Renegade Interrupt to shoot Mordin, Shepard and Mordin looks at each other. Mordin nods, in thanking Shepard letting him do what is right, Shepard then watches as the elevator goes off and discards his/her pistol, disgusted.

    What makes Mordin’s death hit so hard is that he wasn’t just a friend, he was an embodiment of something we all aspire to be: a person who owns up to our mistakes and tries to do better. We all make mistakes, but admitting to ourselves and to others we made them is hard, and making the best effort we can to rectify the damage we’ve done is hard too. In doing that, Mordin was a better person than many real people in the world. You hate to lose someone like that, but we can remember him fondly and we can try to be more like him in our own lives. Fantastic writing and acting for his part of the game, and great reaction from you. Thanks for sharing.

    Remember back in Mordin's loyalty mission? He expressed that he explored religion after his STG work, ones similar to Hinduism, that allowed one to make mistakes in this life, then be reborn in a new life to make up for- or correct them.
    As this mission shows, Mordin didn't NEED to wait for his next life to correct his mistakes. Even as old as he was, he fixed what he helped destroy, brought life where there was death.

    It’s easy to side against the dalatrass on moral grounds, but the choice presented in Priority: Tuchanka is actually a very well-loaded one if you’re thinking about it from a military perspective which you’re supposed to.
    In terms of the immediate threat, everyone’s already agreed on the strategy to deal with it: delay the Reapers enough so that the Crucible can be deployed. No amount of military might the galaxy can produce will last against the Reapers so the Crucible is your only hope against extinction. The krogan are purely a fighting force which means they’re only good for buying time which will eventually run out. On the other hand, the salarians are the most scientifically advanced race in the galaxy and can therefore make great strides in building and deploying the Crucible. So, you’ve got a race that at best, can delay your extinction vs. a race that can significantly improve your chances of preventing extinction altogether. Which seems more appealing?
    Then, there’s the question of what happens after the war. We can reasonably assume that Wrex will never turn against us but, like Eve says, he’s just one krogan. If more krogan want revenge than not, there will be nothing Wrex can do to stop them. Either he needs to give his people what they want or he’ll be cast aside. With immunity from the genophage, the krogan will undoubtedly recover faster than any other race. They will have power in the galaxy before anyone else and therefore have complete discretion over whether or not the other races have it as well. Again, as a military leader, do you want to give a race that has so much inbred resentment across their entire species that opportunity despite who their current leader is?

      @KittyBoom360 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@LightsCameraJake When experiencing a work of art, one can ignore artists intensions. It's like with Blade Runner (1982), was Deckard a replicant? You would get a different answer if you asked the writer as opposed to the director. The actor also had his own different answer. Who was correct? All and none. It's art, so interpretations are not factual. How one experiences the art matters more than any of the intentions of those who helped to bring the art to life.
      In my experience of Mass Effect, the child was not real. No, I didn't see my Shep as indoctrinated, but I also didn't see her as immune to Reaper attempts. It was an inner war, that she also won.

      Did the same my first playthru, cos I didn't want to screw the agreement at that point and cos realisticaly speaking, was thinking that Krogans are dangerous as stated by the Dalatrass and even by Mordin back in ME2, then goes Wrex with his sayings all the way in the convoy and then you speak with the crew and they point out some other interesting things to consider. That had been an issue thru all of our own history, like in the WW2🤷‍♂️😒

    If Wrex dies in the first game you get stuck with Wreave, so for anyone who needed more reason to keep Wrex alive it’s that.
    Also without Maelon’s research Eve/Bakara doesn’t survive Priority: Tuchunka. It’s really crazy how much variation there can be in the series.

    And not once did I turn the situation with the genophage so that Rex died. Never. I just can't do it.

    Someone on your twitch stream said that a renegade is a sociopath, that person doesn't get it. Sociopath is an option not a must when playing a renegade. A renegade is the most free playthrough you can have. It's not just a game of make all the choices at the bottom of the screen. You still have to make sound decisions. Commander Shepard is a badass enough to blow an enemy up while he's talking crap and can still have the empathy to hug a teammate who lost a family member, and yet can still be smart enough to not allow a sex demon on their ship who tried to kill them moments ago.

    • @ZrodyApo
      @ZrodyApo 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's the problem with a dual system like this, most people view renegade as the bad guy while paragon is the good guy (just like jedi vs sith in Star Wars).
      But I find myself enjoying a renegarde Shepard more and more, some of the best dialogues and outcomes are from a renegade perspective and I can even say that some of the paragon choices are dumb

    • @JBWinter
      @JBWinter 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ZrodyApo Yeah, you can make really moral choices and still be mostly Renegade if you're brusque with people on the small things. Renegade and Paragon interrupts and special dialogue usually get similar outcomes

    • @ZrodyApo
      @ZrodyApo 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JBWinter I mean my 1st playthrough ever was a full paragon, but with time and while discovering the trilogy on different playthroughs I tend to like the renegade Shepard, especially in 1 & 2

    The 5 paths:
    - full paragon, as you see
    - don't tell Wrex, but confess to Mordin with "I didn't trust Wrex, but I trust you"
    - don't tell Wrex or Mordin, Mordin discovers anyways so you try to convinced him not to proceed. He shouts "I made a mistake", let him go
    - the above but shoot him. He dies crawling to the console which stops the cure
    - you've botched everything up so Eve and Wrex are dead and Wreav is in charge, you can convinced Mordin to abandon the Krogan.
    The third path maximizes the emotional impact of Mordin's arc.
