    Its nice to see fresh open country without a blot on the landscape, for how long I wonder. A great and relaxing video that takes you out of the troubles of this age. Grazie.

    I don't know how I've missed out on your videos over the years but one of them came up in my YT recommended list yesterday and since then I'm completely hooked on seeing some more. Keep up the good work Sir, your videos are a joy to watch.

    What a lovely film, I really enjoyed admiring the spectacular scenery. This is an area of the Forest of Dean that I am unfamiliar with so it was great to see. This will be on my list when we are finally free of Covid and I have to say the music accompanying the film was lovely.

      Glad you enjoyed it Jeff. Although it was over 8 miles the walk was generally flat so not too strenuous. Pleased you enjoyed the music too, many thanks 👍

    Another of my postal routes in the Ross area . I used to make Courtfield the last drop when it was a Catholic retreat . The tea and cake the Father's gave me was well received . Thanks , Patrick 👍

      I remember this was a nice walk to film (as were all of the Wye Valley and FoD films I made that year). Thanks Jim for watching and commenting 👍

    I'v just watched your film on the Wye Valley and the Forest of Dean. The views on your video had beautiful peaceful scenes. Just as lovely was the music. So soothing with haunting piano melody. The last time we walked in the Wye Valley and Forest of Dean was some time ago. We didn't stay in a youth hostel there but have done elsewhere in the past.

      Awesome, thank you for watching this and pleased you liked the music again. I did a load of films in the Wye Valley in 2018 and spent an absolute fortune travelling and staying down there several times that year :) Glad I got them all done though, but any new films will be made closer to home in the foreseeable future. Thanks again :)

    Some lovely countryside scenery yet again in the Wye Valley area, Patrick. A nice walk along the banks of the river, and the old railway bridge looked as if it might be worked on for restoration, maybe. Like you said, grand to see the canoists going along the river. It looked really great on Goodrich Castle, what a fine ancient building that is, as well as the village itself. There was a Great Western 'Castle' class steam locomotive named, No. 5014 'Goodrich Castle' by the way Patrick. Many thanks for this presentation, it's been interesting.

      Thanks again Ffranc. I'm sure that bridge was being renovated, so by now I expect it's open again. Glad you liked the castle. One benefit from my point of view of being an English Heritage member. Thanks for watching 👍

    That was SUPERB and the musical accompaniment is definitely one of your finest, being quite haunting in places, I loved it. The view at 14:14 is mind blowing, what a lovely area. I have visited the Forest of Dean on a few occasions over the years as I have relatives who live in Gloucester and it is always so peaceful and tranquil. Thank you for your hard work and effort.

      Many thanks as always Eric for your kind comments. That view at 14:14 was pinched from another film I made a couple of days after this one, but yes it is mind blowing isn't it. Thanks again for taking the time to watch :)

    Brilliant as always and a castle thrown in too can thing's get any better than that. What a gorgeous place the Wye Valley is and not a bad eight mile walk. Thanks for your time and effort i find your films pleasant and relaxing to watch. onwards and upwards with your channel i hope you keep gaining subscriber's they really are missing out. Keep up the good work and i look forward to watching your future rambles.

      Thanks Kelly it was a real bonus to shoot the castle because it was closed when I first arrived, so I didn't think I'd get time to do it by the time I finished the walk, but thankfully I did. I'm lucky to have gained another 250 subscribers since February so I'm happy with that. Thanks as always Kelly for watching and for your nice comments. Cheers, Patrick 😃

    Lovely video and music. lots of memories of my camping back of Bennets garage, ross on wye.Punting from there to Goodrich, biking up to the castle, having to "break in" at dusk to retrieve my gloves left at the top of the keep. cannon balls just inside the port cullis. But all back in the fifties. Staying at the YHA at Bicknor. Cider ninepence a pint in the pub.

    Thoroughly enjoyable Patrick. Once again I never saw this upload - I check nearly every day. Any way, glad I'm here now. That hostel walk sounded great. I could hear the joy in your voice. It's really nice to bring that back. I saw so many familiar sights here. A few years back I camped at the base of coldwell rocks, which as you can imagine was misty and magical in the morning. Like you mentioned the view from up top there is a famous one. No doubt you've got a snap from up there as I have. You certainly got the miles in - Coppet Hill is a good one. I've wanted to camp there to. I will do one day. Hey I see roaring meg there Patrick. That used to be in Churchill Gardens in Hereford. I would sit on it - good to see it there and you finish the walk off so splendidly. I trust you're well. All the best. Mark

    • @solitaryrambler
      @solitaryrambler  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Mark, I knew there would be familiar sights again for you in this one. Yeah I've got strong memories of that old hostel walk, perhaps because it was the very first one I did after joining the YHA. So you camped below Coldwell Rocks, yes I can imagine how great that would have been for you to wake up to. Yes I thought I might be pushing it with the miles for this walk and the time it always takes me to stop and film like I always do, but I'm so glad I did it as it's a fab one as you know. Didn't I see you sitting on Lydbrook Bridge in one of your earlier films? Nice to know Roaring Meg was once in Hereford. Funnily enough I watched another of your earlier films last night, which was part one, so I'll watch part two this evening and I'll leave a comment once I've seen that. All the best to you Mark. Cheers, Patrick :)

      @@solitaryrambler It's good to hear they're strong memories Patrick. Priceless that! Just to stand feel and reflect! Coldwell was good as was your 8 smiler. Ha ha! Paul used to say that. I was on that bridge visiting a film location in Shadowlands. It was a good! Hey thanks for going back on mine there. The River Edw it sounds like. That's such a fond memory. Well, I've nor forgotten we'll get together one day. All the best me old mate. Oh yeah Roaring Meg I have good memories of that - it was good to see it.
