Jonathan, thank you for taking and posting this excellent video. I was the Captain on this flight, and the ATC audio helps to capture the urgency of our situation. My thanks to the professional response and assistance of the Glasgow Airport Rescue and Firefighting crews and the Glasgow Tower Controller. Thanks again for the great video.

Jonathon, thanks again for the excellent video and audio. This event occurred 5 years ago today and I remember the outstanding support from all the Glasgow Airport personnel. Capt. Bob Little, American Airlines (Retired)
Brilliant capture from our wee airport down the road! Glasgow has seen some great drama's over the years and we've all witnessed two or three I'm sure but this video Jonathon is a superb example and analysis on all of went on. Shows how people on the ground as well as those in the air handle their respective responsibilities and boy, they did well here, cool as cucumbers! Magic to see that Capt. Bob has come on and left a very warm message - bet that means a lot to you and shows that he appreciates that some people really consider what he was up against was a tough old gig.
Thanks very much. It was such a cool movement to see and so unexpected. To see the pilots deal with the whole situation so professionally was truly impressive and has stuck with me ever since.
Excellent video, it's cool that she ended up parking right next to where you were filming! Also very impressed with the ATC, once again showing how good our controllers are in a crisis! :)
Whoa, you captured that beautifully! Loved the ATC, made the video feel much more complete :) Absolutely phenomenal video overall, that close up taxi into parking was just icing on the cake :) HUGE LIKE!
dude8472productions Ohh thankyou so much for that comment mate. Really means alot. I always find that especially in situations like this it really makes everything seem so much clearer. Thanks so much for watching and your support mate :)

Had our own diversion back to Glasgow back in September with four fire crews to meet the plane. Interesting to see your video and to watch what happens from the outside perspective. Never did get the chance to thank the Captain or Glasgow airport crews for keeping us all safe. Still don't know for sure what happened, many figured it was a flap issue. Either way, happy to be on terra firma to watch your video! Well done!

Nice video and a great job by the flight crew. Everyone says a single engine landing is easier in the plane than in the sim. In my 28 years of flying at AA only had one engine fail, #2 on a DC-10. It was nice having two more turning!
Dennis Cheever Thanks very much mate. They all performed to their professional standard and it was great to watch. Only one in 28 years. Thats not bad at all mate. Pretty easy going nowadays then I imagine.
Very nicely filmed Jon! Must have been a surprise to say the least seeing it pop un on FR24 just as you had landed. Glad to see you got it and a like from me mate :)
Flightsim10HD Och cheers Harry, more of a surprise it was a complete shock as I was expecting it to be over Amsterdam or somewhere. Thanks very much for your support mate :)
Amazing catch Jon, the ATC defiantly makes the video, bet you were surprised to see that after stepping off the plane from Poland? 👍 great video, liked!
Excellent video-such professional camera work & audio capture. What was the problem? What symptom that pilots noticed, and what was the discovery upon inspection? Didn’t see this mentioned in description or comments.
I was cycling round the airport that day and had my SLR over my shoulder. Got some decent photos of the landing up Abbotsinch Road at the 23 threshold.
Nice one Allen. I had literally just landed from Warsaw when I saw it on FR24 and thought I'd wait for it. Great to see. Do you have photos uploaded of it anywhere I can view them?
Well done, and happy timing/placement. Watched its progress after it came up on Twitter feed. Are those tough Glaswegian tarmac crew wearing any hearing protection? I presume in-ear/low profile.
Paul Henry Honestly it just so happened that I was in the right place at the right time. Yeah some of the ground crew were. It was all such short notice they had a matter of minutes just to get crew there and an AA representative to help. She should be out of GLA soon.
Great video, earned a sub! :) Just one question from a complete noob, how do you get to listen in to the ATC communication? It makes everything 10x better haha.
Great timing and exciting times (for some)...My daughter and I went to Amsterdam last July and on our return I noticed our plane done a massive turn in the air above Norfolk... I said to my daughter that something was up...only seconds later the captain informed us that due to hydrologic problems we were returning to AMS...my poor daughter was bricking it. Actually I might upload that flight on TH-cam...AMS to NCL via AMS ;). Will you be recording the United flight into NCL by any chance? I might head up to see it land, go for breakfast and watch it take off.

Jonathan Winton If I go up I will be heading up there with 2 fellow av geeks...but I'm sure if I do make it up there we can arrange something....do you live close to the airport?
Jonathan Winton I'm afraid you would know these two Jonathan as they work in the same office as I do and they don't go to the airport spotting. Like me they fly on a regular basis...especially one of them. It doesn't look like I will be able to make it anyway as I have my son stay with me on a weekend, I was going to get his Nana to look after him on that day but she is away to a family wedding down south and I know he won't be wanting to go up the airport that early in the morning. So I guess I will be relying on you to make a superbly done video 👍.
Exciting....EXCEPT it was my Niece and her Fiance coming from Germany to Texas and they had to make a sudden and unexpected stop in Scotland! Thank God, they finally arrived in Texas in time for the wedding of her cousin and all is well.
Bren Forbess Ohh poor them. Well i hope they got back across to Dallas alright. I would have probably passed them in the terminal somewhere as I dozed off as I was so tired. I hope the wedding went well too :)
in a situation like this, wouldn't it have been a better idea to evac? hot brakes from an overweight landing combined with oil potentially leaking could be REALLY bad if the brakes spark up and tires ignite, especially when the aircraft stopped for inspection. oil could've pooled up. yes they were in direct contact with fire services, but an extra 30 seconds before they decide to evac could be huge
No not at all. As the situation as assessed by the crew was safe enough to go to a remote stand and deboard there. You have to remember that simply evacuating passengers unecessarily in this kind of situation could create more problems and headaches for everyone, emergency services etc etc. No need to evacuate as the emegency was completely under control and did not pose any immediate danger to the crew or passengers and upon inspection by the fire service was given the all clear to taxi to a stand.
I can see our house from there, lol. Nice video my friend, where was the flight heading, was it destined for Glasgow or did it just stop there as the nearest airport?
+diecast jam Haha nice one mate. No it was headed for Dallas if I remember correctly. Then when she was off the west coast of Scotland at cruising altitude she encountered the engine problem then. So they diverted to Glasgow as its the most capable on the west coast
Ah it had started from Heathrow or the continent or something? Don't think I can really see our house, but not far off, I stay in Scotstoun, a bit further up Dumbarton Road you can see the aircraft coming in very low with their gear down on the last few second of their final approach.

+robert hinchliffe Each thrust reverser operates independently. On a normal landing, both would be used. With only one operational, either the engine itself, or the reverser, an aircraft would get asymmetrical thrust, possibly causing control difficulties. Not wise on a slick runway. On this landing, they were landing with a brisk crosswind from the right. An airplane would tend to weathervane into the wind, or turn right. Since they had a good left engine and thrust reverser, using it actually countered that tendency to veer right. Not always a good idea to use reverse thrust if one is inoperative, but on that landing, it actually helped keep the airplane straight, as well as assisting in stopping.
