      It's because its not quite right. It is a bit more complicated than that. He's not taking into account how these forces vary along the length of the beam. There are actual equations that involve the position (x) that generate the actual curves instead of arbitrary lines he drew.

    • @JeronimoStilton14
      @JeronimoStilton14 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@armandmatossian2081 The equations are represented by the graphical method. Split the beam and do the analytical method and you will find the same results. At the end of the day, the relationship between sheer and moments is an integral so what he does here to skip doing the cut and check method of moment drawing is correct. The integral of a flat line is a triangle as the area increases linearly with distance. The integral of a slope is a curve etc. People should learn both methods as they are equally applicable.

    A 48 ft long plate girder is simply supported at the ends and it has a distributed
    load of 2.6 kip/ft and three concentrated loads of 30 kip at x=12 ft, 24 ft, and 36 ft, as shown
    below. A designer provided you with a recommendation of using 1"x16" flange plates and
    3/8"x63" web plate, as shown below. The girder is constructed from A-36 steel using E60XX
    electrodes for all welds.
    a) Draw a shear force diagram and find the maximum shear force in kip.
    b) Draw a moment diagram and find the maximum moment in kip·ft.
    c) Find the maximum bending stress in ksi.
    d) The flange plates are welded to the web plate on both sides using matching intermittent 5/8" fillet welds. What is the minimal total length of the intermittent welds for each side?
    e) Bearing stiffeners that are 0.5"×63"×7" are used at the left and right end supports. Find the minimum fillet weld size of the weld (in inch) that is required to join the bearing stiffeners to the web plate.

    A uniform horizontal beam ABC, 13m long is supported at one end A and at a point which is 10m from A. It carries a uniformly distributed load of 40KN/m from a point from 6m from A to 11m from A, a vertical concentrated load of 80KN at a point 2m from A and another one of 20KN at C.
    i. Calculate the significant value of shearing force. Illustrate these clearly on a diagram and indicate the point or points at which the maximum bending mome will occur.
    ii. Using the shearing force diagram, determine the significant value of bending moment and show these on a diagram.
    iii. Find the position of zero bending moment in the span.
