If anyone is wondering, this is also called "Tinner's Fluid": ZnCl2 flux = hydrochloric acid (ammonium chloride) and a few tiny pieces of zinc. Let the zinc dissolve until it stops bubbling. It dissolves passivating oxides, exposing the clean metal surface.
So, a carbon-zinc battery could be used. An alkaline, ni-mh or lithium wouldn't yield the same results, right?

specifically, it's HCL + zinc. HCL and the reaction fume is pretty poisonous, use safety gloves, mask, glasses, and do it outside

Known in the U.K. as killed spirits, hydrochloric acid was known as spirit of salts years ago. Bakers fluid and most old time fluxes were made from it. Still the best, but wouldn’t recommend using on water systems, or electrical jobs because of corrosion.
So basically it's flux but if you run out this could be a back up dose the flux help the soldered bit stick.?

El cloruro de Zink (qure es lo que preparaste), es un muy buen fundente porque ayuda aparete a disolver los oxidos que dificultan las soldaduras, pero todas las soldaduras que mostraste estan " frias", y eso es muy malo, nececitas proporcionarles mas calor para que te queden muy bien, suerte.

I used HCL hydrochloric acid solution to dissolve the zinc, it dissolved in 1 minute and bonded the solder very well. ❤🎉

What I don't understand is why did they solder the red wire on the negative end of the battery & the black on the positive end (I realize the actual connection is irrelavent to the project)... But still!
It's called etching, but what they don't tell you is that it is perm destructive solution as the action will continue to corrode underneath the welds

That was a lot of work....for to use a power source (the battery) that will eventually be used up, and the whole apparatus will have to go to the trash.....Nonetheless, it was a good science lesson.

Buenas tardes, otra forma de conseguir fundente para este tipo de soldaduras es usar lejía directamente .Se aplica unas gotas de lejía con un pequeño bastón o pincel sobre la superficie a soldar. USAR SIEMPRE GUANTES Y MASCARILLA. Yo no recomiendo usar estos métodos para soldar conexiones a una pila o batería, se puede producir un cortocircuito .

Where are your protective gloves? And disclaimers about the dangers of disassembling batteries or mixing various chemicals?
The title & thumbnail encourage viewers to "just put a battery on a soldering iron", giving the appearance that you care more about generating clicks/views/money than ensuring the safety of the communities where you publish content. You responded elsewhere that "the goal of this video was to showcase a unique approach to recycling"...yet that goal is largely incongruent with how you presented this content & is easily missed by the average viewer.
I do hope this was an isolated, unintentional oversight on your channel.

Chez moi ( à Portugal ) on avez l'habitude de faire nos même nôtres plaques de PCB. Il suffisait de les dessiner avec un marqueur et les plonger dans une solution de 2 produits que j'arrive plus à trouver. Vous n'avez pas un méthode simple pour le faire chez soi même SVP d'avance et bonne continuation.
