More years ago than I care to remember I heard a character in a television costume drama say "When one is unhappy on the inside it is important to decorate the outside". This had always been my attitude & doing it had got me through the saddest times of my life. It doesn't mean that someone is being shallow, selfish or uncaring it means that they are doing positive, something to nurture themselves & for many, including me, it's our normal. When I saw you at the end of your video I could imagine Audrey looking at you with all the love & pride she had in her glorious daughter & smiling her beautiful smile.

Soo well said. Thank you for your comment that’s full of wisdom. I lost husband, son & daughter. I am in front of the bathroom mirror or closet making myself the best I can be. It’s not vanity, it’s therapy!

I'm so sorry about your Mom, and I know taking your son to college was hard, but this is a nice reminder that we're all dealing with heartache and troubles. Also a good reminder to take care of ourselves. Praying for peace and strength for all of us.

I really needed this video. I have just returned home after two months in Canada as my brother in law died then I stayed longer as my sister in law was not coping and as a widow myself I knew how she was feeling. I have been so busy helping her I have not had any time for myself. You give me the incentive to look after me now once I get over the jet lag. Thank you for all your videos xx

Thanks for sharing, Dominique. I admire how you are taking care of you during this process, and I definitely encourage everyone watching this video to do so. During my time as a caregiver to my beautiful mother, I neglected myself a lot, because she became my top priority, and in reality I needed to place myself in that priority list as well, but did not know how to do that. I can say that just recently, after almost a year of her passing, I am beginning to take care of me again. ❤

I’m so sorry for your loss. I shared with a friend how lucky I felt having had the opportunity of having been welcomed into my husband’s life at such a young age 50 years ago. I’m a few weeks into my own bereavement and I totally get that dried out feeling when you look into the mirror and you looked parched. Just started adding those extra skin treatments morning and night in the hope I don’t end up permanently shrivelled. I also have wonderful friends who check in and ask me out, how grateful am I. Never turn down an invitation even if you feel you aren’t up to it, if they are good, understanding friends they will understand if you don’t join in or phase in an out of conversations, it’s a process and it takes time and it’s different for everyone. It’s your normal. ❤

I love you so so much Dominique! I really need this self care & who better to get my advice from than you as I’ve been so depressed the past 5 1/2 mos since I lost my son. The love your mother had for you was the love I had for my son & still do of course. This love is for all eternity even after they are gone. Please forgive me for not using the correct wording for how I’m trying to explain how my heart is so broken & crushed.
Even different losses for you & I, I know you are so caring that you know my heart. You are my mentor ! I am your biggest fan even tho you don’t hear from me too often. I have left my house work go that my home is a disaster especially since I have 2 German shepherds that are inside dogs but go out in my fenced in yard during the day. I’ve lost all the desire of taking care of myself & my home. I don’t want to go anywhere nor do anything. And I know this is all wrong.
I was diagnosed w RA & Fibromyalgia 20 yrs ago. It’s not that noticeable except in my knuckles in my hands, but I have constant pain. Mostly mild-moderate most of the time. My son’s passing was completely unexpected. I really felt a lot of support from my small circle of friends & besides my daughter & mother, only one Aunt made me feel that she really cared. My only other Aunt which is closer to my age…10 plus yrs older that always told me everyday of my life that she loved me didn’t come to the funeral , but did walk across the road to the cemetery to tell everyone that she did not expect to see there how “she didn’t know” where the funeral was going to be!! She did not speak to her sister , my mother nor hug the 3 immediate family members , myself, my mother, & my daughter. This is 2023 & even in “1950” ppl picked up the phone & called the family or Funeral Home & asked!! I felt sorry for her, a college graduate, retiring from the State of NC & also retiring from The Northwestern Bank before that!! There’s more too this story but too much to bore you & your fans with. My point iS that being an “only” child & feeling like I was going through this devastating pain that I’m still going through, that my Aunt that has sat on the 3 row at church for 50 yrs & claims to be Christian , it all hurt that much more! My son was 11 1/2 yrs younger than my daughter & my parents helped me raise my daughter as I was only 19 & after a yr of marriage my then husband that was also Christian & claimed publicly that he had been called from God to preach, left me with a 9 month old baby & all the bills!! And to think that I saved my virginity for that kind of man?? I have suffered from chronic depression for yrs if I might add!
No, I’m not suicidal but “only” bc of my religion.
Do I feel like living? No.
I can honestly say that IF not for God & my religious beliefs… I would not be here. And for my Aunt to lie to my face why she didn’t come to the funeral but yet came to the cemetery told me she knew exactly where what & when the funeral took place. After all, she had 10 days to fine out. On top of all this, I still haven’t received a call nor a text. It took her 5 weeks to send me a generic sympathy card. Because she had one son at age 30 & I was 30 when I had my son, both of us having C-Sections, plus she only had 2 nieces & 8 nephews, we were extremely close all my life. Mother & her sister were always close. Nobody would have deliberately hurt someone when they were experiencing the loss of a child. So this was even more for my Aunt which I forgot to add that she is a “pillow” or is it a “pillar” of the community(?)
I’m sorry, I’m venting bc I am hurting so awful much & I need your motivation. When I was listening to your podcast & you were saying if your words could help someone, you would feel you were accomplishing what you set out to do. Those of course -not your exact words & I can’t quote word for word. Your words touch me & you may have saved my life, so thank you for doing what you do for all of us all over the world!
Sending you much love, big hugs, & prayers to God everyday before I pray for myself… all from North Carolina ❤❤❤🤗🤗🤗🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Love this video Dominique. You’re beautiful inside and out. Taking it one day at a time and keeping busy is what helped me when I lost my mom. Watching your videos got me through horrible Covid days of isolation. I practiced your makeup and skin care techniques and boy what a difference it made to feel better and look better. I send you blessings and hugs and many thanks for all that you share. And for the people commenting about lashes..she didn’t asked for your opinion. Gosh!

I’m so glad to see you taking care of you. Thank you for giving us this video despite your grief. I lost my mom right before my daughter’s first birthday. I had a large party planned and really didn’t feel like celebrating. My family convinced me that my mother would have wanted a big celebration for her first granddaughter’s first birthday and that I should go ahead. The morning of the party I looked at myself in the mirror and wondered how would I ever make myself pretty today? I didn’t feel good emotionally, It was around Easter which was my mom’s favorite holiday. I had a house full of flowers and colorful cupcakes…it felt wrong for someone in mourning. However, I also wore a white dress with lovely jewelry and I felt better. I did manage to enjoy the festivities. It was the first time I really smiled since my mom passed and somehow I felt her presence. Now that your son is going off to college you may feel a double loss although thankfully he is doing what kids are supposed to do! It’s a new beginning for you but perhaps not how you originally envisioned it. Thank God your mom was able to see him graduate from high school. All the best to you and I hope you continue to heal and even grow from this.
