There's tons of versions of this one, this video is the Sea shanty. There's also the regimental march, the one made by Beethoven in 1815 to glorify the heroes of Waterloo, The Jacobite one (which I believe the song is about Bonnie Prince Charlie entirely, so it makes sense there's a Jacobite one) and likely some others
Was you ever in Quebec? Bonny laddie, Highland laddie, Loading timber on the deck, My bonny Highland laddie. High-ho, and away she goes, Bonny laddie, Highland laddie, High-ho, and away she goes, My bonny Highland laddie. Was you ever in Callao Where the girls are never slow? Was you ever in Baltimore Dancing on the sanded floor? Was you ever in Mobile Bay, Screwing cotton by the day? Was you on the Brummalow, Where Yankee boys are all the go?
@The Lost History Channel TKTC - But your forgetting about Scots dialect ( of which there are very many variations ) in which case we Scots are quite happy with Hielan" Laddie :)
"..was you ever before the H. U. A. C., bonnie laddie, hieland laddie, ..are they e'er a sight to see, bonnie hieland laddie.." There's old Pete, singing to the future Commies of America.
I expect that very few people today will catch your reference to the aptly named H.U.A.C. - an un-American activity if ever there was one. Seeger put on a fine performance before the HUAC, refusing to hide behind the 5th amendment and, instead, challenging the right of Congress to be conducting the inquisition.
@@dickwarren5087 There are still ignorant people among us who hold a grudge against Pete. As you perhaps know, he renounced Communism years ago and publicly apologized for his involvement in it, explaining that that involvement was motivated by his attempts to improve the conditions for working people in this country.
@@jamesevans9007 To tell you the truth, James, I did not know about his renunciation of communism, although it does not particularly surprise me. It certainly does not affect my appreciation of Seeger's music and his contribution to American folk music.
@@dickwarren5087 Inspires me 😂. I've been listening to Pete for several years now and am 19. I'm not screaming or nothinf, never been like that, but he does inspire me and I love the music
Ryranthe1st SKHS Thanks mate, you’re doing the word lots of good. Damn, I used to play the mandolin as a kid but I haven’t touched it in probably a decade. I’m sure this song sounds just as good on mandolin and guitar. If I’m ever in your country (whichever that is) I’ll be sure to stop and drink a pint in your pub.
anibal cesar nishizk you're welcome BTW: I mistakenly thought he was performing this in Montreal, that was incorrect He's actually performing this in Sydney, Australia
who is here because of outlander series?
Omg yass! I heard it in that scene and I just HAD to look it up. Now it's stuck in my head 😆🤦
I belive the outlander version is different i think its the jaccabite. Version i could be wrong though
Here because I love the song. So it's ina show eh?
I'm not, I'm here because I love folk music and because Pete Seeger was amazing.

This needs to be sung in a pub in rainy Inverness
Which is more or less every day, isn't it??!?
I’ve done it? Many years ago…

The greatest video on TH-cam. RIP the greatest to ever do it.
just 29 years old can't believe I've been missing out on such a jewel such a gem
Pete Seeger live with a dead audience
Its our job to be alive in the future.
Not dead...respectful!
@@Beezlie727 Respectful? Well, maybe but it seemed a little like Pete was playing in a wax museum.
I think I can hear them singing, the microphones probably just didn’t pick them up very well

Outlander 2020 :D
Seeger was a leftist, to put it mildly. The Aussies facial expressions are priceless.
So?
I love Outlander but I grew up with this song and was reminded of it when Roger sang it in one of the episodes.
Healthy round of applause from all & not a single girl screaming or woo hooing! What has happened?
Nothing has happened. Folk singers did not - and still do not - inspire that kind of adolescent adoration.

why does nobody sing this anymore?
I do at pubs but it's just mandolin and guitar no banjo that dam thing is so hard
