I would love to tell these guys how many lawns were mowed by teenage me to get tickets to every show they had within 100 miles. And worth every hour in the sun.
I took a break from podcasts at work and dusted off the king crimson radio channel on Pandora. First heard "wreck" and👍it, then "proclamation" and👍'd as well. When I heard Mr class and quality followed by the friends (idk why Pandora played the following track right after) I closed Pandora and opened up the TH-cams: that night I was looking at Three Friends (gg tribute band w/past members) shows looking to book one. Best part: that night i realized the "cruise to the edge" (the band Yes member's tribute tour) t shirt I purchased from goodwill, on account of the Roger Dean art, I was wearing all day had Three Friends featured as guests right in the back! Unfortunately the tour I was now more than ever determined to catch was cut short after Gary Greene had a heart attack and survived 🙌... Me favorite band today needless to say
I managed to see GG once, was tricky getting into the venue, I was a teenager and used a fake i.d. and the doorman knew but I promised I wouldn't drink so he scowled and nodded me in. Wherever that doorman is today, thank you, that concert is a fond memory of innocent days past.
Had me smiling ear to ear; maybe even a little tear. Makes me so happy to hear. Each song is a journey, a story. Every time you think they are going to just start repeating a verse they go off in another direction. Creativity beyond belief and the will to do there own thing at the risk of commercial success. Managed to see them live once about 1976 at the Arlington Theater in Santa Barbara, California.
WOW! The sound of Gentle Giant blew me away 50 years ago - but now this video caught me immediately again and even so much better! Watching the musicians as close is great, wonderful recording and film!
Faithful, of course, but giving the originals a little breathing room. Fantastic performance, loved it every second. Long live Gentle Giant! Thanks Gary and Three Friends. This music cries to be heard.
Superb! I’ve been a fan for over 20 years and it’s so good to see them playing these crazy complex songs looking like it’s not that hard! Thanks for sharing this!
This music is so deeply ingrained in my mind from wearing out the disc in utter fascination. I saw them perform only once - I think? - in Miami’s Gusman Hall. Since that time, I have gone on to a career of producing and playing, with their many records still influencing me. I met the band’s manager in St. Louis by pure chance while touring. I think he was there with King Crimson, who were setting up. Somehow, the words Gentle Giant came up and we shared some fond memories. I could see his experience trying to promote them profitably had been a struggle and elicited some real regrets. Hearing this brilliant modern day performance, I am unable to suppress the wonder that they haven’t been able to attract a mixing engineer to match their monumental writing and arranging talents. Is this a live mix or multitrack? If the latter, I would be delighted to help. I share their vision, have lived their music, and believe a proper mix would drop jaws at the band’s abilities and creativity. With greatest respect - Peter Yianilos.
Bloody superb. The general public mostly definitely didn't deserve this brilliance in the 1970's. Gentle Giant were far too good for their own good. Undefinable music except that it's brilliant and containing an eclectic range of genres. I often think the great composers Beethoven, Mozart, Bach, Debussy etc would watch over this and be curious and excitedly and might wander off and produce wondrous new off shoots of the Gentle Giant genre. A Great legacy but it was a shame Three Friends didn't produce more work and tour more. One can't have everything I suppose!
Whenever I hear this wonderful, amazing music my heart is burning. 💖💥 I know them and I followed them since the time of "Simon Dupree and the Big Sound". And not a single track or any show I had the fortune to see disappointed me.
How wonderful to have this appear in my feed. TH-cam's algorithm is doing something right! I hadn't seen GG live and always wondered how they managed to create such complex but beautiful music live. They make it look easy - it obviously isn't but the fact that they make it look easy is part of the beauty.
When I start hearing this, I just can't stop looking through till the end... Champions of keeping my attention from doing all the important stuff that is waiting for me to do... So Influential by incredibility... The more I listen to it, The more it feels everything is at the right place, every detail having been taken cared of... So... beautiful ! And this rendition is extraordinary. Also thanks to the new musicians too...
Three Friends featuring Gary Green playing GG. Saw them at one of the last Baja Progs (2013); New Trolls (w/ orchestra!) were the headliners. Great show all around!
This is actually the Three Friends project featuring original GG members. This particular video is from many years ago I would say 12 years. Other musicians joined the line up later. I’m not sure if Gary Green is still keeping the band active.
I like concept albums. "Three Friends" is my favorite album. btw 1) Another very good concept album in those times was "The Alchemist" by Home (UK 1973). btw2) One of the guitarists of the band Home was Laurie Wisefield before going to Wishbone Ash.
that's so wonderful that they keep going!! The album "Three Friends" is (almost) the best for me! musicians! Yes, great musicians! With ingenious ideas!!
I think this line up is Gary Green (guitar, vocals) Malcolm Mortimore (drums) Mick Wilson (vocals) John Donaldson (piano and keyboards) Roger Carey (bass and vocals)
@@lbhibbert Malcom was the original drummer for Gentle Giant, and Gary Green was the guitarist from start to end. It's one of the reasons they sound so much like Gentle Giant.
I beg to differ, relating to Derek´s voice. The actual singer Mick Wilson has a good voice but, in my opinion, doesn´t quite relate to the ambient and "grandeur" of GG music. Derek had (has?) a more profound and wider range, fitting perfectly this music, which dwelves in a mystic and baroque influence; he also possesses such a power and depth, that you cannot recognise in Mick´s. Despite Derek´s voice may seem, in moments, somehow grating and harsh, these characteristics give him a more emotional and troubling atitude, that you can not deny. Derek is the Voice, the soul of Gentle Giant and, in my opinion, there is no other voice that could fit this project better.
Indeed, what a great band and what great songs! Except Gary Green it is NOT the original band (like mentioned above) and only Schooldays is from the album Three Friends, Pantagruels Nativity is from the Octopus album and Empty City from Interview. But anyway- you can´t buy a wrong album... ;-)
Pantagruel's Nativity is from Acquiring the Taste. They may not be the original band, but it's friggin' Gary Green, one of the most under-rated guitarists ever, and they all did an incredible job! Had me grinning from ear to ear.
I would love to tell these guys how many lawns were mowed by teenage me to get tickets to every show they had within 100 miles. And worth every hour in the sun.
Very cool. Were it not for people like you supporting this amazing music the legend surely would not have made it this far. Thank you!

Gorgeous story man. Bless your heart ❤.
You knew they're not actually Gentle Giant, right? 🤣
Lucky man! I wish I'd seen them live, but I was born 17 years too late.

I absolutely loved early Gentle Giant.
One of the best band in the galactic of Universe..

Sooo ingenious! I love them!
Im really sensitive to energies and music and this just vibes me out to the max. It's transcendental like the Doors. 💜💜
Doors aren't in the same league.
Beautiful!
That was eye opening….congratulations all involved 💥
Da non crederci...... Migliore della versione originale..... Una ricostruzione del brano stupefacente.....cosa dire di più, se no GRAZIE!!!

I know Gentle giant since LP 1
Can only say
Wonderful rendition
Thank you
Complex and beautiful.
Gentle giant are an amazing band !!! Got into them
In 1973 maybe! Love them!!!

OK. However, I believe albums like In a Glass House would have been written by any band in the last 30/40 yrs!

You have good taste 👍
One of the best tribute bands ever!! The singer is extraordinary. Perfect rendition of all themes.
@@artderesh221 Sure. I know. But the rest of the band is wonderful
@@artderesh221Looks like 3 Friends drummer Malcolm Mortimore as well.
Dear Sires,
Huge fan of the "band" salute you!
Been a fan since 1980!
Got all the vinyls!
Cheers from Brazil!

They were incredible. Prog Rock was king back then.
I remember digging this band in the seventies!
Three Friends featuring Gary Green playing GG. Saw them at one of the last Baja Progs (2013); New Trolls (w/ orchestra!) were the headliners. Great show all around!
Good job guys! I'm trully impressed. I would pay any money to hear it live.
Gentle giant is just on another level... nothing compares to them... Congrats! Perfect cover!👏👏👏

Only gentle giant member here is green on guitar
I forgot, the drummer too
Damn, great musicianship, great music.
I've always loved this song. 💖
Respect! Astonishingly hard songs to pull off live!
Brilliant rendition of a very difficult song by my favorite band! Well done!
Bravo! What a treat it to hear this collection of super-fine musicians play this endlessly gorgeous music.
This is a miracle!
I wish there was a performance of the song "Three Friends" somewhere. It's one of the most beautiful that I've ever heard.
yeah, that's exactly why I came here for and it's not one of the pieces. Highly rewarding still though! Pantagruels Nativity is my favorite.
Yep, the last song "Three Friends" was a fantastic song. Wished these guys would have performed that song.
For my money the best is "Prologue" from 3 Friends....FWIW: th-cam.com/video/qe7jtYSAA4c/w-d-xo.html
Maravilhoso, uma das melhores bandas ,
This is great, still the same old Gentle Giant vibe. Isn't that MICK WILSON singing? He's a superb vocalist and musician... Greetings from Portugal.
AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL! Well done, chaps, based, mama mia, I LOVE this!
Absolutely brilliant!
quand j’étais jeune, c’était mon groupe préféré et maintenant... le même
These songs are masterpieces
YES! I LOVE IT 🙂
...Schooldays...Such a Beautifull Song...
probably the most enigmatic vibe of the time.
That guitarist really nailed it, I mean he even looks like Gary Green
That is Gary Green. Hard to beleve
This is Gary Green's tribute band for Gentle Giant.

I've only recently discovered Gentle Giant. Would love to see this live but I've a feeling I've missed the boat?
Nice to see Gary playing an SG - I always thought it suited the music & his approach, more than the LP.
schooldays are happy days. : ))
well done gentleman !
SPOT ON , FANTASTIC.
That riff in Pantagruel’s Nativity...
Dobrze grają chłopaki. GG zawsze na topie u mnie.
I had several Gente Giant Lps and use to play their músic on our station radio show.
BRAVO super balèzes les GIANT !
Che bello sentire dei capolavori senza tempo eseguiti bene da band di generazioni successive a quella originale
Gary Greene was in the original Gentle giant and so was the drummer here whose name escapes me atm.
Excelente!!
Que coisa linda
"Ah yeah...my dads plays in this prog band with his friends."
Great music! Is there any non cover video of this album out there?
I haven't ever found any.
They were like Zappa, King Crimson and ELP in one...
Extraodrinary. Amazing musicians.
Not gentle Giant - mut be Genius Giant. Respect. Great Stuff
Only two original members but it still sounds moody as heck. No mistakes here.
I think it's worth mentioning that these are from 2009.
Gary Green (Who's initials happen to be GG) lol, is 73! God bless you brother. Keep playing!
Tudo bem que Gary Green está aí, mas vamos combinar, os caras são bons! 👏👏
Fantastic!
Truly awesome. Think they'll ever make it to Toronto, Canada? 😀
Let me know if they do . Have seen GG four times in the world days
Does anyone have the band line-up for this great rework?
I think this line up is
Gary Green (guitar, vocals)
Malcolm Mortimore (drums)
Mick Wilson (vocals)
John Donaldson (piano and keyboards)
Roger Carey (bass and vocals)
And Andy Williams on acoustic and electric guitar.
And when was this recorded?
@@lbhibbert Malcom was the original drummer for Gentle Giant, and Gary Green was the guitarist from start to end. It's one of the reasons they sound so much like Gentle Giant.
There Is something at the beginning in the melody that remembers ti me Pini di Roma by Ottorino Respighi.
Muito bom
Medieval jazz
Also. Pantagruels Nativity ist aus "Aquaring the Taste". Aber es hat mir sehr gefallen.
Brilliant
...anyone noticed the foam head behind the keyboard player ? Reminds me of The Yes album...;-)
I did immediately. Good eye.
Sem palavras! Lindo demais.
Frank Zappa would like to join this project.
Sounds like zappa
He said on more than occasion that he fond of GG
Zappa was a fan of GG.
I absolutely agree
WOW!!!!
I saw them open for Yes in Seattle. They made Yes look like amateurs.
cool miles pic
The first song sounds like a mix of Yes and Giles, Giles & Fripp
❤️❤️❤️
